He should and IMO rightfully DESERVES to take blame for a **** poor game plan and execution for the past 3 weeks!!

Kelly puts the offensive gameplan together and calls the offensive plays, so I can only assume that you are upset about that. Let's look at the offense, the past 3 weeks:

Michigan: 535 yards, 24pts.
Michigan State: 461 yards, 31 pts.
Stanford: 351 yards, 14pts.

None of these performances was good enough for a win, but I would hardly classify them as "**** poor"?

Notre Dame's offensive line can't run block. And it's been this way for years. Unless MSU and Stanford had exceptional D-lines I think ND is just an incomplete offense. They could barely pass block today either. Crist made mistakes but if ND could have ran the ball it would have been a competitive game.

All I saw today was one team that prepared for the game. They had a plan.
ND had no sacks, no stunts no nothing.

And for all that, the defense still kept Standford to one touchdown for three and a half quarters. Make no bones about it, the defense did it's job in this game. Crist's indecisive play and poor throws, especially on third down did them in.

I'll be surprised if Dayne can stand up straight after yesterday? even when he got the ball out he was being nailed, this played a huge part in why he either wasn't able, or chose, not to go deep, he just didn't have the time/confidence, it was nasty to watch so goodness knows what it must have been like for Crist.

As for all the BK bashers, say what you want, but this guy has beaten ranked teams with less (with respect) in terms of recruits etc, we lost by a combined score of 8 point's against two solid Michigan teams, before hitting a wall of a team in Stanford, I hate to say it, but yesterday looked like men v boys, and while disappointing, it's understandable, both sides of the ball using new schemes, a QB who has only started 4 games including yesterday, the list goes on. But here's the kicker, BK and his staff are building a programme, it started when he came in and got the team a training table, and it won't finish until he/team, get back to where we want them to be.

Certain people need to understand this is a project, there are no quick fixes, and if you can't deal with that, then take solace in this. BK joined Cinci in 06, in 09 the Bearcats reeled off 12 straight victories and finished the regular season undefeated. Going into the bowl season, they were ranked #3 in the BCS Standings, now are you going to sit there, and try telling me he won't be able to achieve that or better in Southbend!?!.....exactly!!!

Go Irish!!!

BK and his coaches deserve a lot of the blame for yesterday's debacle

BK and his coaches deserve a lot of the blame for yesterday's debacle

clearly the talent level is not where it needs to be, but Stanford was much better prepared for ND than vice versa, especially when ND had the ball. Fangio totally schooled BK.

I'm calling shenanigans on this statement. BK may be the guy that gets us over the hump, but to say that its not him at this point is preposterous. BK has gotten outcoached CLEARLY in the last 3 games. Ok, so Dayne fricken sucked major a** today, but the play-calling was absolutely pathetic. When you go incomplete on first down, then try a stupid a** run up the middle into a offensive line that was getting their A**ES kicked, you are virtually guaranteeing a third and long situation, with a QB who clearly lacks the confidence to throw ANYHOW other than a damn 5 yd curl route. The 3 points given up right before half is 500% ALL ON THE COACHING STAFF!!! If you aren't confident enough with Dayne to try and run a 2min offense, then that’s fine, but why do you Run on first ( for virtually no gain), then try a PASS on second just to stop the clock.....

Listen, we don't have any choice but to hope that BK will get us back on track, and I do agree that he "SHOULD" do much better given more time than what Weis did, but he has CLEARLY made some HORRIBLE decisions has the ones calling all the shots as the Head Coach!! He should and IMO rightfully DESERVES to take blame for a **** poor game plan and execution for the past 3 weeks!!

The ND apologist is in the house!!! Cincy was also in the Big East, the same Big East Rich Rod dominated. With the up coming schedule I'll bet the house ND doesn't go undefeated. Even next year the team will win 7 games, book it..

I been saying this since the first game that the playcalling was suspect and it still is.. All the ND apologist are to blind to see it and they want to talk about how this team is improving. Tell us, how much did this team improve against Stanford? I saw a team that went into a shell..

Is that going to be the saying this year? Is that double if and when BC beats ND?

Your nuts. Stanford is the truth and they laid it on us. BC sucks, Pitt Sucks. That leaves Utah and USC who are both beatable. Have you seen Navy play this year? They aint what they used to be.

along the same lines have you seen Army play? Might not be a definite win.

I suppose one more random and ignorant opinion won't matter, so here's mine. I said earlier way-back-when that I thought we'd split the first six games. Our thrashing by Stanford makes me doubt, but not give up on that. This is because Boston College and Pittsburgh seem to be less than they seemed pre-season, while Michigan and Stanford turned out to be more. Also, both BC and Pitt seem like slightly less competent versions of Michigan State. We played MSU at least dead even, so there is reason to believe we might outplay their lesser clones. We still could go 3&3 early, but it's no mistakes now.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------What bothers me the most are five things which I thought were somewhat better than they appear [at least while watching Stanford]. 1). The O-line plus Tight End were inconsistent, especially at keeping Crist non-hysterical early. This bothers me less than the remaining other items. 2). Crist became shook. Maybe that's all understandable, but it is almost the worst thing conceivable for the success of the team. 3). The D-line may have been working their butts off, but I almost hope that they weren't. If that's the best they are capable of, we've got big trouble all the rest of the way. I can recall hearing only two mentions of D-linemenm all day [KLM & Hafis Williams]. I'll buy that the 3-4 places them at a disadvantage in terms of lots of play-making, but this was not good production on any grounds. 4). We have perhaps the worst "closing speed" I've seen for a while, except when it's one of our fine cornerbacks [all hail, all three of you!!], and occasionally Te'o. Lord, we've got to survive until Kelly's recruits get here and in a couple of years solve this!! 5). ...and this is the worst...To my eye we have no leadership. I see no one getting loud and angry on the sidelines or prior to the huddle and demanding that the rest of the guys get mad and get taking it to the opponent. Allen comes as close as we've got. But he and Te'o lead mainly by their example of effort and "No Quit". Superstars like Floyd, Rudolph, Crist seem more like Gentlemen of the Local Countryclub who will "engage you in civil combat" while the other guys have knives and clubs. I REALLY hope I'm wrong about this last thing, but I've been around some loaded teams [given the leagues they played in] which far underachieved due to no on-field [or on-sideline] leadership. I wonder, when the semi-civilized monsters which comprise our O-line return to the huddle and stare into the eyes of Dayne Crist, who do they see? When they turn to look at Floyd and Rudolph, do their expressions fire them up for the dirty work? I hope so, but I bet not. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Even with all the negatives just spewed out by me, I still think that we are better than six of the next eight teams IF Kelly can somehow get these guys' emotions back up. And we COULD steal one from Utah [probably unlikely] or USC [better chance].

I can't help myself ["I'm talking and I can't shut up"] but I feel the urge to say one other thing about our season. There are people on this site who will rate nothing as being of any significance other than wins and losses. When evaluating our team then, they should apply the consistency of that criterion as to how tough our opponents have been. The three teams that gave us losses are 12-0. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Losses suck, but the schedule has been almost "unfair" for a beginning coach. Let's at least can the hysteria.

Play as hard as you can to set some precedent for next year. They can still win 6/7 games if they stay the course and get ( or make ) some breaks. Even if they dont win 7 games they must set some attitude for next year. They just cant fold up now or all %$#@ will break loose.

That's my biggest worry. I was in the senior student section for the second half of yesterday's game, and you could tell the fans were starting to turn on the players and that the players felt it. It will be a huge test of Kelly as a leader to see if he can keep the team focused and working hard after yesterday. If they do, they could still finish with a very good season and a lot of momentum heading into next year.

I can't believe Kelly has not won three National Championship trophies at ND already. Look at Saban, Meyer and John Wooden. Oh he's only been on the job for nine months and only had about 70 total practices. I know ND was 16 - 21 over the last 3 years. That does not matter. He should win automatically because it's Notre Dame.

STFU - give the guy a chance to do his job. It is not going to happen in the blink of an eye.

not only that, but hasn't our losses (before this one against stanford) been by 7 points or less? this is our first loss in a while that has been somewhat of a blowout.

i'm just sayin'.....

Try decaf, or better still go and, "support" another team!

WOW!!

I think I'll go home and watch Joe Dirt and compare that line with Kid Rocks. Very impressive sir.

I think we, myself included, have bought into the hype of Brian Kelly, and may have overestimated the recruitment of Charlie Weis. Yes, we do have some very good players, but we are still incomplete, and I think we will follow a similar path...maybe a year faster then Stanford. The bottom line is that this is going to take time and is going to be a process.

Dayne Crist has a TON of potential, and will develop into a very good QB. He is still a first year quarterback starting in a new system, and it is more then obvious that he is having some growing pains. I do not mean to take anything away from Stanford, they are a very good team, and they showed that we are not there yet to compete with the big dogs of football.

Both of our lines need to be built up, they are leaky, and not very good. They are both in new systems, and are working with a mixmatched line. We need to bring in some big nasty lineman that blow teams off the ball. Our LB's are good, but we need a few more elite players to compliment Teo. Our secondary is a huge concern for the future, we are thin, and need some BIG commits this class. I think as the years go on we will see talent maximized, and not deteriorate into a mess similar to what we are watching now.

Brian Kelly is a good coach, but not a miracle worker. I had thought that we had enough talent for him to work with, but we are nowhere near a solid team. Luckily, we will probably go 7-5/8-4 with a nice bowl win to set the stage for next year. I think that as the season goes on we will see the team grow, and with the pattsies we have coming up get some real confidence, and gain A TON of valuable reps.

BC- Winnable, they do not look good, and will be a good game. A MUST WIN.

Pitt- Is coming of a disastrous season with off the field issues. Its at home, and is a toss up.

Those 2 games are winnable aslong as we do not going into a slump, and just deteriorate.

W. Michigan- A easy win that we should get Lo Wood some reps, and a few other freshman that could use the expierience.

Tulsa- Same as WM.

Navy- I fear that is we do not get our Dline going we could lose this game, especially if the offense sputters. I think BC,PITT,WM, and Tulsa will be valuable to this team in confidence and reps for expierence in the system. I look for everything to start clicking against a solid opponent.

Utah- This game is HUGE. There is a chance that we could be on a 5 straight win streak and this may be the best team we will face aside from Stanford. I will be really let down if we do not see a change in the team from now til then. I expected to see this team grow as the season rolls on (granted I thought we would be further ahead of the curve then we are) this game could be interesting.

Army- Tricky game, if the team has a big loss and is hungover Army could win. Or if the team is on a 6 game win streak and is looking ahead to SC could be a problem. A win is almost definite.

We could be 8-3 or 7-4 (Probable) heading into SC. This is our bowl game, if we can take SC down the season will be a success, similar to Stanford when the took down SC in Harbaughs first season. The players will buy into the system and end on a high note with a bowl birth.

I think Kelly can get it done, but he has a big job to do. He needs a signature win this year to get the train rolling, recruits believing, and momentum heading into 2011. Keep faith, and watch a team grow.

Go Irish
I whole heartedly agree with you, I think we need a win against BC to set the tone for the rest of the season. I think the team will grow with each game, that's one of the things that BK does that makes him a good coach he knows how to use game tapes a a teaching tool to help develop the players.
