What is the "uniform surprise"?

NDNation is a competition among old people to see who can be angrier about things. It's kinda sad really.

And harmful to the real "ND Nation." The ones that think before they speak and don't have their heads in their asses.
I keep telling all my friends who hate the helmets to give them a chance. They can't see past the color scheme and into the effects they could have.

So you would rather have 3 shades of green on than the helmet we wore against Michigan? The facemask would go unnoticed if grey. But because they are making it green everyone is noticing that it is different from the shamrock, which IMO, and clearly others, looks terrible.

Come on man when you watch the game i bet you will not even notice the smallest difference in the shade of green from the shamrock to facemask lol... It's not neon green!

I would rather the facemask and shamrock match yep, but if they couldn't do it i'm fine with what ND does...

We all like different styles, but to call me out over the shade of green they use is just crazy.. Looks close to me not spot on..

adidas is starting to p*** me off with all these new uniforms for Michigan and now ND. I have a bad feeling for the uniforms for Michigan's game against alabama at Jerryworld next season. Ugh. Hopefully it'll be better than what Michigan wore against state.

So in response to BK saying that he only cares what the players think of the helmets and not anyone else, a poster on NDN had this to say:

"Here's what I think-you are white trash Brian Kelly. I will not spend a dime on this program or university as long as you are the coach-that is guaranteed."

Don't forget to post these gems in the Unlimited NDDation thread. We have to chronicle these wonderments.

Relax, brother. They won, didn't they? You know what we would all say if someone from here told us that they had a similar sig, and people from another team's board were pissed off about it? We'd all say, "Their team should play better, then they won't have to deal with it."

I just wish the team would quit screwing around with the uniforms. Hell, I'm an artist and I love creativity...but it's getting bad when we seem to change or tweak something each and every week. What in the hell was wrong with the unis we had coming into the year? Do we really need glossy metallic gold helmets (those have grown on me)? Retro amalgamation unis for a night game? A return of the green jerseys (which I hate because we always seem to play like *** in them) and helmets with a big *** shamrock?

To be honest, I was perfectly fine with our helmets from the years before and the beginning of the year...looked great. I have since grown to like the new "metallic" ones, but the best thing about them is the mirrored gold surface and the SMALL shamrock on the back of the helmet. Perfect. Quit screwing around with the unis and helmets...who are we trying to be, Oregon?

Like I said, I'm an artist and love the creativity...and would normally be the first for all kinds of uniform changes and options...but not with Notre Dame. The team has a classic look and should enjoy it. Just my humble opinion.

We did play really well in the green against Army, granted you can argue they weren't that high caliber of opponent, but ND has found a way to let teams like that hang around or beat them in the past. I would also argue to your point that we haven't exactly played all that great in our blues/whites in the last 5 years either.

kmoose: I'm with Wooly. There is a time to cheer and a time to show some sportsmanship. I never ground crap into an opponents' face after it was all over in my life. My father taught me that about respecting your opponent. Despite what some posters think around here, Michigan has the status of being a more honorable opponent than many we are playing and could be playing in the country. Hot rival, yes. Continual sh!t-slinging target, no.

that's not technically the case. in the argument with the helmets, its actually right on. more on that in a second.
What in the hell was wrong with the unis we had coming into the year?
nothing. those are our "uni's". and will continue to be.
Do we really need glossy metallic gold helmets (those have grown on me)?
yes. i think they look better and represent the goldden dome, the graphic icon of the university better. i do think its too bad that the students will no longer be painting them, but with change...comes...change. and evolution hurts. just look at the platypus.
Retro amalgamation unis for a night game?
according to jack swarbricks interview on und.com about the shamrock series, michigan approached notre dame about wearing throwbacks. we went along.
A return of the green jerseys (which I hate because we always seem to play like *** in them) i like the greens. its a secondary home uni to me. and helmets with a big *** shamrock? i dont mind this look either once in awhile. but its just opinion on something that is completely open to interpretation.

you're an artist. and any person who views your art has a reaction to it...positive...negative...apathy....something...nothing. maybe they understand maybe they dont but to tell them anything about how they should feel is short sided. anyone that views any art form should become part owners of that material for their own emotional response to it. to take that away by interjecting opinion takes away the power of the art, because you have limited that response. but i digress...

To be honest, I was perfectly fine with our helmets from the years before and the beginning of the year...looked great. you saw about 5 different helmets from last year to this year and probably didnt realize it. im not sure any of us did. i didnt.

SMALL shamrock on the back of the helmet. thats out of respect to a fallen equipment manager and will be there till the end of this season.
Quit screwing around with the unis and helmets...who are we trying to be, Oregon? no. but per BK's presser today, its what the players want. with oregon, its what phil knight wants.

im not smashing on you. i think a lot of people share your opinion. im merely spinning a summary for myself. your post works well to bounce off of.

ps i like your clothing line. cool stuff

For me personally, I notice the jersey's for the first 5-10mins of the game. Once things start going and plays are happening, the jerseys don't affect the way I watch it. Just something for the media to grab onto and have more publicity for the school. But for me, as a fan, I don't care one way or the other. I watch the game and hope they win, not if someone else will like the fashion.

I do like to see the creative ways they put jerseys together, but I could go either way. No changes, or change things here and there.

Here's what I hope Brian Kelly realizes: If he screws with the uniforms and consistently wins, this will be a short lived controversy. If he loses, the backlash will be even worse for him. I just hope if he loses with his uniforms, he has the decency to go away quietly like Gerry Faust did, and not go away blaming Notre Dame for losing.

You have to be kidding me, right? Go over to MGoBlog and see how Wolverine and his chronies treat the one ND fan willing to put up with their abuse. They certainly don't afford him the same consideration that we do for him. Just because they beat us, it doesn't give this jackass the right to come on here and throw it in our faces. It's poor sportsmanship and many of us have told him so. He knows how we feel and simply doesn't care. So if you are ok with some idiot scUM fan throwing our loss in our faces, then you are alone in that boat, brother.

On the helmet, here is what I think. I think (regardless of what wolverine may think) we have the most recognizable helmet in football. The uni's in the scUM game were a mirror image of the game... horrific.

That being said. What I have came to realize, which many "traditionalist" like myself have not, is that this is the current fad of college football whether we like it or not. EVERYONE is doing it, most of which are traditional powers like us, scUM and Alabama. It's stupid, but young people care about this type of thing, and the last thing our program needs right now is young people not being attracted to Notre Dame.

doesn't bother me. I actually like him better than some of the ND posters here. He provides an interesting perspective. They won. For the 3rd straight year. It's the least he gets to do.

Relax.

You're ok with him posting it for the sole purpose of taunting us on our site? ok.

IMO, anyone that is ok with a scUM fan coming into our forum and continuously throwing their bs wins in our face has zero self-respect. You two sound like a sissy trying to justify the bully taking his girlfriend. Have some freaking pride for Christ's sakes.

It's not like I have anything with obscenities on it in my sig. I've had this up since I joined over a year ago. It's just adding the fuel to the fire of the rivalry.

Yeah... you said that last time and a bunch of people told you they find it disrespectful. Regardless of what your intentions were, many (myself included) find it incredibly disrespectful. We have let you know that, and instead of just taking it off out of respect of this site (which has treated you very kind, unlike your brethren at MGoBlog treat us) you refuse to do so. Every time you post, you do it with those scoreboards in your sig. So as far as I am concerned, you are taunting me and the rest of this site.

Neg rep coming.

I went back and looked at many (not all, but many) of Wolverine's posts. If he wasn't a Michigan guy, I think most people would categorize him as a solid contributor to the site. I've always been of the opinion that a person's deeds(words, on a message board) are more important than what they are wearing(sig pics, etc.).

But make no bones about it, Wolverine....... wooly is right about one thing: you know that the pics are offensive to a vocal segment of this board. If you get run off because you don't remove them, then that's on you.

back to the uniform topic, if one of the main purposes is to excite high schoolers, potential recruits, and current players, it's doing its job just fine. All of my friends who've seen it love it, and most of them aren't ND fans.

Pleasing the alumni with our uniforms would be pointless. We have to be progressive. And if it helps us gain even a little more notice from recruits, it's worth it.
