What is the "uniform surprise"?

You've been lucky not to have them in your section then. They do exist.

I tell you what, if they exist in section 135, row 8 they're getting salted. I'm going to be loud, standing, and drunk.

I'm still trying to figure out where this sentiment comes from. I've been to a handful of games in South Bend over the last 5 or 6 years, and never once have run into someone upset at people standing and cheering.

Sit down and be quiet. Will ya?

I agree with Rhode irish on not wanting to be a slave to tradition but keeping it in perspective. I know i'm not the only one here who has been in notre dames locker room. I was in it back in1989 when i camped there and was in awe of the feeling of tradition and seeing the ND in the carpet and all but man the locker rooms are amazing now since being refurbished. I would like to see field turf and a jumbotron as well someday, and you know it will tastefully be done. I hate change sometimes ,but this would be welcomed. I know people are saying various things about the uniforms and if thats what it takes to get a recruit. If anyone wants to see how these young guys react to different jerseys watch how the ohio nobcats acted when they were going to play marshall. Pretty crazy over a uniform, but whatever it takes its legal atleast.

My only thing here is that we (Irishenvy) need to step back and look. ND has had many different jerseys through the years. I love the blue as much as anyone, but we have always played with the jersey theme every few years. As long as it doesn't look like VT vs. Boise last year I am alright with it.

Yeah they do. That was my biggest disappointment when attending my one and only Notre Dame game. I wanted to stand, like I do at Bengals games, everyone around me was sitting and seemed agitated when I stood up. I had season tickets to the Bengals for 10 years and everyone in my section stood pretty much the entire game. I guess it's just about getting lucky at Notre Dame games. I was amazed at how quiet it actually was and the lack of enthusiasm around the place. Most beautiful campus place I've ever been to but it was also the quietest.

I agree! I was at the Utah game last year and I have never seen a fan base so Blah as they are beating the hell out of the #15 team in the nation. I had people looking at me and my brother like we were freaks for screaming and cheering!

Also if we are having "Green Out" call me the Jolly Green Giant cause the 6'6" S.O.B. is gonna be sporting Green!!

And it's not necessarily that people will tell you to sit down, because not everybody does that, but some of it is that they just sit there. They don't get up and cheer. I know people have the right to quietly watch the game, but when you're at the game, and it's a key 3rd down in the 4th quarter and people in your section are sitting quietly, that frustrates me. And in those situations it almost seems awkward to stand because you feel like you're being rude blocking the 'sitters' behind you.

But I digress. That will NOT happen this weekend.

I think we were blah because we were angry that it even had to be an upset for us to win over Utah. And the way that we beat them it was pretty easy just to sit back in cruise control for the game and enjoy it.

Also a quick note on the Jumbotron and Turf, I've heard first hand that BK wants a Jumbotron and Turf and that, according to him, it will happen in the next few years. He said tradition is nice and all but they need to break down barriers to bring us into the new century, and these barriers are being broken down quickly. See the training table as a small example.

What would everyone think about the Irish wearing the usual navy & blue home unis, but with pink lettering? If someone could do a quick mock-up of that, I would be grateful.

Any of these changes at ND have to come from the top not from the FB coach nor the AD. Football coaches at ND were fighting for "change" before Rockne became a player. The Administration takes the viewpoint that the culture of the university comes before the culture of the football team. The training table didn't come quickly. It's been a topic on ND internet boards since at least '95. Parshegian wanted one but Hesburgh said it would separate the athletes from the students. He saw it comparable to athletic dorms which conflict with ND's view of the student-athlete. Moose Krause was a powerful AD but he knew which battles were winnable and which weren't. Holtz wanted a training table but Malloy said it would conflict with Residentiality.

The training table didn't come about because of Kelly or Swarbrick. It came about because of Father Jenkins runs the show now. Jenkins was the one that got Willingham out the door BEFORE he took over. Jenkins hired both Kelly and Swarbrick.

Along similar lines there are new people running ND's ResLife with a different approach. Cappy Cagnon, the head of ND Stadium Security (the ushers) was retired last August.

Changes are taking place because there's a more flexible guy at The Top.

Wow really? I was in the student section and had a totally different experience. It was the loudest the stadium has ever been, and people went crazy after big plays. People were grabbing me and shaking me from excitement, jumping around everywhere. My friend punched me in the gut lol and he didn't even notice. Man that was amazing.

Wouldn't that be something if ND comes out saturday with GOLD jerseys?

That might be kinda cool. I saw a guy at an Applebees once wearing a gold ND jearsey this was around 2001-2002 I was a youngster I cant remember if he have ever worn those during a game or if that was just an alternate jersey they were selling at the time.

Since 2000...

Texas (9-3) in 2000
Utah (8-4) in 2001
Colorado (10-3) in 2001
Fresno (9-5) in 2002
Michigan (10-3) in 2003
Fresno (8-5) in 2005
Oklahoma (11-3) in 2006
Michigan (9-4) in 2007
Fresno (9-4) in 2007
South Florida (9-4) in 2007
Oklahoma State (9-4) in 2008
Utah (10-3) in 2009

68-27 overall in the Pac-10/12 since 2000, with four league titles.

19-1 in league play under Chip Kelly.

If you count 8-5 Fresno State as a big win, then I've got nothing for you.........

Other than I refuse to count the absolute homering of Oklahoma in 2006 as an Oregon win.

Maybe it'll be gold with pink letters and maybe some sequins, and instead of equipment bags, each man can carry a european satchel.......this is what it starts to sound like to me when men, including me, spend too long tallking about what other men, should wear to play football.

I don't like pink on football men, if they want to show support, put a pink ribbon sticker on the back of the helmet. If they want to wear pink or flashy clothing, let them join a knitting club or wear their girlfriends clothes in their free time.

If they have some new uniforms, I hope they are throwbacks like the white with ND on the front. That to me, would be awesome.

Actually he didn't put Conference wins on his list so I think last years housing of Stanford 52-31 counts as a big win as Stanford was damn good last year as they shut Stanford out in the 2nd half and made Luck look human.

Edit: ok they didn't house Stanford but 52-31 is convincing

All lies and jest, still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.

I bolded the part that sums up your argument.

Take the 8-5 Fresno game out---take all the Fresno games out if it makes you feel better. That's still a very solid collection of out of conference wins.

I don't even know why I'm defending Oregon but they are right around 10th in winning percentage since 2000. I'm sorry you live in Oregon and this bugs you.

Should I make a similar list for Notre Dame's games and not include any of the rivalry "conference" games we have?

Trust me, you might want me including wins over clubs that notched 8 victories or else the list is going to be pretty short.

This I agree with. I don't mind messing around with jersey colors and the color of the pants but don't screw with the helmet color.

i don't think i'd even go far enough to mess wit the pants. maybe a stripe or something but IMO the gold pants and gold helmet are sacred. The farthest I would go with the helmet is the shamrock.

Perhaps I was not clear, when I pointed out Oregon's surprising lack of "big" wins. I was speaking of beating teams with double digit wins, and 1 or 2 losses. I'm talking about beating elite teams, not second tier teams. An 8-3 Michigan team is a second tier team, in the year that they are 8-3. Oregon has been a solid program, but the truth remains that they "bought" their current crop of highly touted football players with the money supplied by one Phil Knight, CEO of Nike and an Oregon Alumnus. They haven't built their program by beating all the teams that they should, and a few that they shouldn't. Hell, in the same time frame that you referenced above, they are 0-1 against Indiana..........and at home(Autzen), at that!!

In their last 3 games against elite teams, they are 0-3, and have scored over 20 points only once:

2010 Rose Bowl vs. Ohio State: Lost, 26-17
2011 BCS Championship Game: Lost, 22-19
2011 vs. LSU Lost, 40-27

ND's performance against elite teams is totally irrelevant to the discussion about how Oregon has built their program up, so I fail to see why you even mention it.

I have a gold #7 jersey that my parents bought for me when I was 10 or 11 (so right around 99/00).

In an even weirder twist of fate, that same jersey was ruined by my sister spilling PINK nail polish on it. I'm gonna dig through my drawers and see if I can find that sucker.

EDIT: And it's already been discussed. ND has never worn gold jerseys in a competitive game, but did so during one of the Blue/Gold games under Davie. There is a picture of Justin Tuck wearing one somewhere in this now-monstrous thread. Fyi, it looks pretty bad with with gold pants and a gold helmet -- think UCF but without those classy white helmets.

You originally said:

Oregon has built a top tier program through slick marketing, NOT by beating other top tier teams!

They haven't earned anything, in my opinion.

They have become exactly what they espoused to despise, on their way up: a team that is always highly ranked, based more on their reputation than their play on the field.

But I'd be interested to hear what you think are "big" wins for Oregon, in the past 5 to 10 years, that came against someone outside of their conference......

You asked for big wins for Oregon out of conference and I gave them to you. Now you're back peddaling because they haven't beaten the elite of the elite of the elite?

There are plenty of top tier teams that they've beaten in their OOC schedule.

Are we supposed to really take you seriously when you say the Ducks haven't earned anything??

Anything??? At all???

Okay, so they aren't LSU---but you're treating them more like they're Cal or Oregon State or something. It's ridiculous.

And there was this team last year....they came into South Bend and roughed Notre Dame up. Went on to win 12 games....demolished their opponent in their BCS bowl.

Oh yeah...Stanford!

Who'd they lose to last year---their only loss?

Oregon went 12-1 last year and almost won the national title.

But you're right, you're right. They have achieved nothing and never beat top tier teams.

May I suggest you revise your argument and claim that Oregon isn't a perennial top 5 team? Because that's all you've got.
