Ha, I was in the dining hall when he made this announcement. There weren't that many students, I'm guessing he just did it for the press release. To be fair, I don't think the student section is the problem. We're only about 10% of the capacity.

Well you want to be respectful to the old farts and don’t want to mouth off to them and all, but come on you can't just sit there brace your arm on you knee plop your bald head in your hand like you are a pissed off 5 year old that has been told he can't watch TV and has to go play outside. I almost took a picture with the caption "Typical ND Stadium fan" and used it as my avatar. This is the crap that rowdy fans had to deal with, until that crowed stops going to games, I don’t care how load the student section cheers; we will still be a quiet stadium. I’m interested in seeing if the night game brings in a louder crowed, it should but I’m not holding my breath.

"[T]hat crowd" doesn't have to stop going to the games. The ushers have to stop enforcing on their behalf.

One would think that Savvy Jack can fix that problem immediately.

You're right, if JS made an announcement to that effect it would stop, but I wonder if he is worried about a financial back lash by making such a proclamation. Not sure why this has not been done yet but I wouldn’t be surprised that at the heart of the matter money is somehow involved.

He doesn't have to make a proclamation. He can just notify the head usher that from now on, the ushers aren't going to ask anyone to sit and/or quiet down unless they're being violent or profane.

You want good fun??? Go see a game at UTenn. Those people are off the hook. Extremely friendly and everyone is in the game for 60 minutes. By the way... UCLA and USuck play in friggin' cathedrals. Even during a sellout, USC is empty at one end in the Coliseum. Empty seats don't cheer....and neither do old people apparently.

Not the case lately. Past 2-3 years, def not the case.

steps that need to be taken to make ND stadium loud again:

1. win
2. lower ticket prices from the ridiculous levels they are at now. part of the reason there aren't enough young people at these games is because they can't afford it.
3. win some more
4. tell the ushers to lighten up. it's getting ridiculous. it's been said before, but you should not be asked to be quiet or sit down at a football game. my favorite memory of this was when i was standing on a 3rd down play and the lady behind me yelled at me to sit down because, and i quote, she "didn't pay for these seats so she would have to stand." and the ushers came right to her aid, and i had to sit down. that is some class A bullsh*t.
5. win

Not sure I understand this. Face value for a ND football ticket is like $75, no? Tickets to most of our games sell for way more than that in the secondary market, so ND is already selling well below market prices. If you want them to go even lower, why not just let everyone in for free?

No elite universities have more than 10,000 students. It doesn't happen. ND and other elite universities admit ~15-20% of applicants. Admitting more students would, most importantly, detract from the close nature of the ND student body, and the school would not be as selective.

As others have mentioned, it's not as if ND fans reach their 30th birthday and say to themselves, "Well, that's it. I'm going to start sitting down at ND games". There are plenty of older fans who cheer their hearts out, but can't stand up the whole time. This is why the older fans who can't stand for long should be seated in the upper bowl or in a special section. One of my friends has a grandma who is a diehard ND fan and screams some damn funny things at games. However, she is in a wheelchair. She would never tell anyone to sit down but there are others like her that will.

I really do think Jack will tell the ushers to ease up as far as people standing. But he won't tell them to ease up too much since there will be a lot of people who are really really drunk. So those of you who are going to be standing and cheering, don't be rude to the people asking you to sit down, because I doubt the ushers will give much leeway if you're drunk.

Also, a jumbotron would help a lot for the older people who sit down. Instead of telling other people to sit down so they can see the field, they can just turn and look at the jumbotron.

i agree and make it opposite of touchdown jesus so they have a good view... the lady i sat next to last yr was a die hard from the 60's also she was wonderful, my girlfriend loved her... anyways i agree with the 30's thing i saw some old folks that are fans that were not as able i LOVE them they are ND... i feel they should be lowest in the section 1 area so they can see straight at the jumbotron...
