2013 OL Looks To Make An Impression
Tuesday, 21 June 2011 21:41
Brian Town

Building depth at the offensive line position is extremely important to the success of any football team and Notre Dame has been working hard to shore up that side of its program. With two outstanding trench warriors committed to the 2012 class already, the Irish’s plan seems to be coming together very nicely.

What makes this even more exciting is that they've already started targeting key offensive line prospects in the 2013 class, and tackle Ethan Pocic (Lemont , Ill. /Lemont Township) is just one of those prospects making the trip to South Bend hoping to impress the Irish.

“I'm still coming up to Notre Dame's camp this week,” said the Lemont star. “I will be heading up there on Thursday to show them what I can do.”

As the 6-foot-7, 285-pound lineman’s recruitment heats up, he plans to visit quite a few of his suitors this summer and he started this past Tuesday with a trip to Wisconsin's camp and plans to visit Purdue and Michigan State very soon.

“Recruiting is still going pretty good for me right now,” said Pocic. “I've just received some new offers and I'm up to four now. I've been offered by West Virginia, Purdue, Illinois and Arizona and a lot of other schools are showing me a lot of interest.”

Once he makes a college decision, the outstanding lineman will be the second football player in his immediate family to play Division I. The left tackle’s brother, Graham Pocic, is an offensive lineman for Illinois and has been able to help guide his brother and give him some pointers to improve his game, but to make it to that next level himself, the sophomore knows it's on him to perform and he has a perfect chance to do just that this Thursday up in South Bend.

“My goal when I arrive a camp is to show the Notre Dame coaches that I can play football and be dominant,” claimed Pocic. “I'm looking forward to showing them what skills I have and what I can do on the field. I look forward to the challenge.”

Per 24/7:
Just-missed five-stars

At such an early stage in the process, five-stars were handed out very sparingly. With eight prospects earning the initial five-star nod, there were plenty that were heavily discussed that just missed the cut.

Perhaps the closes prospect to landing on the list was Fort Worth (Texas) Arlington Heights offensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson. Though his recruitment has yet to really take off, his size and athleticism blend has wowed the 247Sports staff has put him near the top of numerous college radars.

Also on the offensive line, Midwest prospects Ethan Pocic and Steven Elmer both were under heavy consideration. Two massive linemen with a run-blocker’s mentality, Pocic and Elmer are both likely to have their choice of schools.

Not surprisingly, given the information above, Ethan was named an early :s::s::s::s: by 24/7.

Solid offer list already. Probably a mid 4 star prospect. Around 150 overall I'd say

Perhaps a little higher. The article above mentions that Pocic was getting 5* consideration from 247.

Just looked up his 247 profile. He's a 97? Wow!! Surprised he doesn't have a scUM offer yet. Maybe he just didn't report it.

I have two theories:

Theory #1: He's ashamed of his Michigan offer.

Theory #2: Bob Diaco sent a kind letter to Brady Hoke which simply said, "Offer him and fire will rain down from the skies over Ann Arbor" and Hoke immediately relented.

Number 2 seems likely.

I mean seriously. Look at those eyes. If you look closely, you can see sinners burning in his pupils.

For reference, a 97 right now on 247 = Nelson Agholor on the high end and Geno Smith on the low end from the 2012 class and the #6 OT is a 96. We already have one (Elmer) adding a second top 5 OT would be ridiculous. Pure ridiculous awesomeness.

Imagine a Kelly offense with these monsters up front and elite speed all over the field...

Thank you. I remember those commercials well. GB, back in the day EF was the man. In today's recruiting world you the man. Perhaps you are really GB Hutton, long lost nephew of the great EF?

Wonder if already having Elmer hurts us.

I would think that it should help the Irish. All OL I would think want a solid group of other lineman on the squad in order to work as 1 top-notch unit.
