During the bye week we should pass the time with a well thought out over/under on verbals following the game.

As I'm sure everyone else is, I'm really hoping it's Agholor. I don't really see it happening though. With how high he is on USC and FLorida, I don't think he would make such a heat of the moment decision. However, I could see us making a huge impression and winning his commitment somewhere down the road.

Seems to be a Florida Florida State battle right now with USC slipping.

Stanley > Odenigbo > Banner > B. Marshall, in order of descending probability.

The staff might not accept more than 2-3 verbals depending on how we sit with the big fish recruits.

Who on that list would the staff not accept a verbal from?

I meant the staff might only accept a few verbals if (1) they like where we stand with K. Marshall, Shaq Thompson, Agholor, etc. and (2) those guys aren't ready to verbal yet. The class of 2012 will probably be capped at 22, so we can only take 6 more guys total. Gotta leave room for the elites if we have a good shot at them.

Thus, we might take the first 3-4 verbals we get, and put any others on hold for a while.

There is NOBODY visiting this weekend that the staff would not accept a verbal from. They are big fish. If you think the staff would not take Russell or Manning, your wrong. They are still actively recruiting both players.

Not that I know of, but I dream big.

I share your dreams but I would be suprised if Alviti does not end up at Northwestern. They are selling the Persa deal like none other. Also, comparing depth charts, he is much more likely to see the field early at Northwestern. Will be a fun recruitment to watch.

I wasn't implying that any of these guys would get turned down immediately if they tried to verbal, but some people think we'll be full after the USC game. I don't; we'll probably take the first 3-4 verbals offered and then hold a couple spots for the super elite recruits (and make no mistake, K. Marshall, Shaq Thompson, Nelson Agholor, Andrus Peat, etc. are on a different level from most of the guys visiting).

He Really is the ideal Northwestern QB. Pass first but can run. He's white. Compares well to Watkins, Kafka, and Persa.

I don't think this is a hard sell for Kelly. 30y ROI for ND is $1,384,000 vs. $841,000 for Northwestern; 65% higher. Northwestern hasn't won the Big 10 in 11 years, and hasn't been to the BCS in 16 years.

Better education, higher profile, and a better program. The only thing Northwestern has over ND is a more inviting depth chart.

What? Forgive me for not being around as long as most of you lol, but I thought if you won the Big Ten you were locked for the Rose Bowl? Then again, I know the Rose Bowl wasn't always part of the Bowl Championship Coalition/Board/Series, is that why?

According to wikipedia (so take this with a grain of salt), Northwestern's last claimed Big 10 championship was 2000, where they went to the Alamo Bowl and got blown out by Nebraska 66-17.

I get what your saying. I also don't think we will be full after the USC game but not because we have to turn people away. Because the majority of recruits attending are solid-elite, their recruitment won't end early.

I will disagree with you on Peat. If Banner, Garnett, Theus, or Murphy offer a verbal during the weekend, the staff takes it and runs with it. I'd even say that if Banner and Garnett both offer verbals, they take them and end offensive line recruiting. Not at all expecting that to happen, but every one of the offensive lineman I listed are ELITE.

I have to admit that I don't have a firm feel for how those elite OL compare to each other. I just tossed in Peat as an example of an elite OL (he's also my favorite).

I agree completely that we'll take the first 2 of that bunch that want to verbal and call it a day on OL, as long as we're under 22 total recruits.

..... and a coaching staff that he is very close to. Not at kids go to schools for logical reasons. Depth chart is a BIG deal. It's not nearly as cut and dry as you're trying to make it. It will be a tough sell. This kid is very close to the coaching staff in Northwestern, and again, the Persa factor is on their side.

Is he related to someone on the coaching staff?

Not at kids go to schools for logical reasons.

I'd expect a QB with a top 3 of NW, ND, and Wiscy to have his head screwed on straight.

Depth chart is a BIG deal.

It is for some; less so for others. Our ridiculous depth at TE hasn't stopped the elite recruits from committing.

It's not nearly as cut and dry as you're trying to make it. It will be a tough sell. This kid is very close to the coaching staff in Northwestern, and again, the Persa factor is on their side.

I didn't say he's ours for the taking, but you make it sound like this is a long shot for us. Unless Fitzgerald is his uncle or something, I like our chances with this kid.
