Hey guys I'm back....didn't want to start a brand new thread....so here goes:

* Beautiful campus.....and better yet, GREAT fan base and people you have. And I mean that in all sincerity.....I can't count the number of times I was told welcome to ND and have a great time...really, really cool.
* I'm OK with MSU's defense....about 275 yards total? I think that's a minor win right there....this game wasn't lost on our defense.
* Charlie Weis didn't leave the cupboard bare....you guys have several 1st rounders on your team.
* State left way too many points on the field. The red zone woes were frustrating.
* Your DL is really good and will be scary good in the near future.
* The sky isn't falling on MSU....we'll be back

Thank you for your input. Good luck to you guys the rest of the way.

Nice to get our first win. I think we start winning from now on. The only thing that concerns me still is our turnovers. We have 13 in three games. If we can stop turnovers we will be almost unstoppable. Great win today for sure.

Manti was lights out today, he had like a bazillion tackles.

He had 12, 2 solo, 10 assists.

Gray lead the team in solos with 7 and added 3 assists for 10.

Smith has 8, 4/4.

Blanton 6, 3/3.

Motta 6, 1/5.

Moore 5, 2/3.

Lynch 5, 2/3.

Fox and Fleming 5, 1/4.

Carlo 4, 1/3.

SPARTAN96: our team matches up well with your team's style. The U of M by the way doesn't. If you guys just slow the DRob monster down, you'll win that game easily. Mattison can't rush Cousins with four [like we could] so he has to blitz. He's clever but you guys are disciplined and should pick him apart.

I think Gray played much better this week than last. I am not saying he played well but he played ok. He had a couple of nice tackles on run plays and short passes, plus he was involved in the Blanton INT.

I disagree that Jonas was a man all game. When it came time to lower the lumber, a couple of times he hesitated.

As someone else noted our quick start and rugged DL made your offense one dimensional. MSU apparently made some D adjustements to defuse ND's running game after the 1st Q (or first drive).

Enjoyed talking football with you.

I wonder if Rees and Floyd have a class together. If they do I bet Rees just stares at Floyd the entire class.

You do realize that there is a primary receiver for every play called, right? That's why it's called a "progression". There is a first option, a second option, a third option, etc., in that order. What makes you think that Michael Floyd isn't the first option on most of the passing plays?

Game views:

3). Lynch was almost unblockable, but he too gasses out and needs a blow---even tapped his helmet "Coach get me out of here once". Not using him in the previous two games was an error of cowardice even given that he might not always cover gap responsibilities. One of the few coaching decisions that I disagree with.

4). our linebackers have been more than disappointing. Thank God the D-Line is so good. Outside linebacking play in this game was almost invisible [I forgive Niklas but still it stunk]. Neither Fox nor Calabreese has a clue on pass defense. I'm still waiting for a REALLY good Manti Te'o play [I never thought I'd be saying that]. Maybe it's poor scheme.

Great post! Agreed on the LBs. Inside LB next to Manti is a problem. Manti was solid but yes, waiting for that BIG play from him. Still sooooooo glad he's ours. And still waiting for the Fleming BK was talking about.

As for Lynch, I disagree with you there. He did play in the first game...in fact he got quite a few plays for a true freshman. And I don't blame BK for not playing him against Denard at all. Today he got to do what he does best - get after the QB. He wouldn't have been able to do that vs Denard. You have to be EXTREMELY disciplined vs. Denard, which our D-line was for 3 quarters. Lynch is still really green, and Denard would have exploited that IMHO...

Sometimes Tommy looks like Michael is his 1st, 2nd, and 3rd option.

Jonas or Gary?

I think he was talking Gary.

Regardless I thought they both improved. Brian Smith wrote an article on ISD this past week that he believes Gary is playing injured and that's effecting his play. IF true that might explain your "lower the lumber" comment. Smitty didn't indentify any injury.

Cierre Wood had as many catches (6) as Floyd. In previous games, I agree that the offense seemed too geared toward relying on Michael Floyd, but not this one. And can you blame a QB for giving Michael Floyd an extra long look, to get open? Who has been able to cover Michael Floyd, even when they double team him?

Lynch is a bullrusher. Like in Judo, Denard would have taken the young bulls and used their charging to his advantage.

BTW, none of us saw Lynch and the young bulls against Golson and the scout team rehearsing Michigan's offense. Kelly did.

Yeah. I'm guessing it's the megaphone thing they pass back and forth to the winner? Sorry, I'm not very old so I wasn't sure.

That may have come across rather douchey. I didn't mean to come across as a ****, my apologies. Yeah it's the Megaphone trophy

No problem. I knew it was something to do with the rivalry but I didn't know the name of it until I googled it. But seriously, he towers over everyone around him.

Btw, that was the first game thread that didn't involve porn pics. Maybe those were bad luck after all?

Crist did the same thing. And last year when Floyd was out Crist looked to Rudolph. Smart move.

Clausen was accused of homing in on Tate. Perhaps one reason Golden won the Biletnikoff.

Clausen had a 4-1 TD:INT ratio that year. You tend to avoid criticism when you do that. Rees's is 1.2:1.

7-1 TD:INT ratio, actually.

Tate was open when Clausen threw to him. Usually. Otherwise Clausen would just throw a perfect strike through a six inch window.

Pretty solid arithmetic on my part, lol. Right you are. Clausen was my favorite QB. I dream about him in Kelly's offense.
