Please, PLEASE, PLEASE, don't schedule games with BCS conferences for the first game. Especially with our typical two step with the Michigan teams coming up behind! Our schedule is already hard enough with out throwing a trap game at the very beginning of the season. Hard for me to believe you can not look ahead when you have those two games right there at the front end of the year. How about getting a team like Tulsa to ........whoops ...........JK LOL. But seriously I know Chip Kelley is signing the same tune..

What makes you think Chip Kelly gives a rats a$$ about ND's schedule?

Kmoose -

Chip Kelly's team just lost to a good school to open the year (rather than scheduling a cupcake). He doesn't care about ND.

Because he had to face the best team in the country (IMO) first game of they year out of conference. I would like a lay up week one.

Yes, I agree. Schedule a cupcake to open the season. If not, schedule a known good time, like LSU, as the opener. Don't schedule these good teams that everyone thinks is a cupcake. You know what I mean?
Its a lose-lose situation, we win = "ND beat USF, big deal", we lose = "ND got beat by USF?! ND is overrated again and horrible".

Ah, wanna try again?

Duke shrewdly purchased a win with a Buy Game over 1AA Richmond.

Unfortunately Richmond didn't read the contract and WON 23-21.

Meanwhile Eastern Michigan purchased a win with a Buy Game over 1AA Howard

Howard went down 41-9 like a cupcake is supposed to.

we get temple to start 2013? our schedule over the next few years is loaded with good teams.

i fear that the way the landscape of college football is changing we are going to have to play heavyweights week in week out just to get any respect from pundits, especially if/when college moves into super conference territory. which i personally think will ruin college football.

Although we never lay up week 1, and this sometimes backfires, I still like the scheduling call. We lost to Tulsa last year some time into the season after opening with Purdue and winning. I think we look that much better if we don't play a cupcake game the first week and we win.

It sort of depends on the team you have. I mean if Dayne stays healthy last year and the Irish win the last 4 games with him behind center I'm not worried going into this season. But with not knowing who the QB is till a week before the season it's sort of convenient to get that "tune up" game.

If we didn't turn the ball over 5 times, USF would have looked like a cupcake.

Well when you are looking ahead and it's the first game of the year you tend to have some crazy mistakes like what happened Saturday. Not to let them off the hook but the fact is our schedule is already stacked a weekd to get back in the grove would not hurt us. Also BK needs to do a better preperation job, not just schematically but prepping his guys to be focused.
