There was a thread a couple months ago about gambling on youth football in Florida. I feel like these incidents are related. When people have hundreds or thousands of dollars on the line, it leads to ridiculous reactions like this to officials making a call they don't like or whatever.

It is no surprise the THE U is the way it is or that so many SEC/ACC style players have issues with assault, crime, etc. when this is the example their parents set for them. It's just a shame. The deck is really stacked against any kid growing up with these kinds of people as their role models.

Thank God for the Alice Lynchs of the world raising their kids the right way down there.

I'm going to make people mad but please hear me out.
What they did was wrong I won't argue that one bit but this is what you get when you let referees run free. You give them all the power and don't give the people below them any check in the balance system. Most time you are even penalized for saying anything negative about referees. You don't give people an out in the situation. There are so many people playing football and sports in general. People will eventually snap. Is it right to snap no but give them some place they can take their anger from bad calls all game so they can be checked and if need be the officials penalized. Being an ND fan we all no what one bad call at the right time or constant throughout the game can do. I just wish there was a system in place to fix this problem before it comes to something terrible like this.

It shows how the parents parent because that one kid tackled the ref as if he was on the kickoff team. Shows his lack of restrain but also shows he has to blindside someone to look cool. The ref wasn't even looking in his direction.

It is really pathetic because I can almost guarantee that everyone was laughing about it as they left the field. Except the victims.

Sorry but I feel your wrong.
The league chooses what officials to use. If there is a problem with your officiating then the league won't use you. If their is a question as to your call the league will review what happened and make their decision.
I've coached and umped if the coach feels I made the wrong call I won't penalize him for voicing his opinion unless he steps over the line of swearing in front of the kids or getting physical. Then he gets the warning past that he can watch with the parents.
I even warn a coach if the kid is pushing it. And I'll guarantee I'm not the only one who's like that.
As a coach I've told every kid that if you have a problem with the Ump or Ref odds are I've seen or one of the other coaches have seen it and we'll say something you just be quiet let the coaches handle it.
I know I'm not the only coach who does that because I learned that from my father over 20 years ago when he coached me.
Let's not make excuses the coach was arguing a call and I have no problem with that then he went after the ref and should have been ejected and forced to sit the next game or whatever.
Then that player decided to light the ref up. If I was on the board of that league he'd be banned for life from playing in it.

My dad coached this level in the early 80's and had the SAME EXACT THING happen... parents and coaches felt screwed, they stabbed a ref and one of my father's coaches.... and it was all we could do to get on the bus and hit the road before the bus was overturned... only there was no internet or twitter and it never became a story... just for those intent on making a generation centered thing...

this has been happening for a long while

This is youth football. You don't like the referee? STFU and take it. These coaches don't have a job riding on the outcome of the game.

^ this is what should be done. Absolutely uncalled for in any situation. Reprehensible.

Acamp1900 & kmoose. I do agree with both of you and I wasn't strictly talking little leagues. I've officiated games before myself. I know how hard it can be to catch everything perfectly every time. All I'm saying us I wish there was a place you can go if you are having officiating problems rather than in every league and every sport having to deal with hometown officials, straight up bad official and just have fair officials. Nothing ever seems to happen to home bias officials and it would be nice to stop it.

P.s. I want even thinking about the possibility that these people had money on it. Maybe the officials bet the other way.

There are checks and balances. These refs are testedand graded frequently. They must have higher scores to do the higher levels.

So how do you explain such horrible officiating in ncaa and nfl games?

Decisions made in split seconds. Those things we can barely figure out in slo-mo are tough calls at full speed. I don't think officiating is as bad as we'd all like to make it seem. It just so happens that we remember when it affects the outcome of our games -- especially when we are on the receiving end of a negative call.

I say you ban the coaches and number 6 for life from ever playing or coaching football again.

Maybe if this is done to a few people, people will think twice.

Wow. I watched the video and then made the mistake of going down the rabbit hole of subsequent comments...

...300+ comments and 30 minutes later, my head is spinning! It's sad how many ignoramuses there are out there. I'm so glad this isn't one of those types of sites and we can (for the most part) have intelligent, differing opinions.

I <3 you guys even more after reading those comments.

That coach that kicked him in the face should be put against a wall and shot. Kicking a man in the face when he is on the ground is the ulimate coward move
