All of you are obviously disappointed, so I'll keep this short.

Thanks for agreeing to play us. I'm not happy with how certain members of our fan base acted before game, as well as the trolls popping up here now like we're suddenly national title contenders (which we certainly are not).

Good luck on the rest of your season and I hope you go 11-1.

thanks bro. Cheers.

Lots of negavitiy.

Guys, it is football. This year, I expected 10-2. Next year was when I expected to really turn some heads.

Can't go 0-5 in the T.O. differential. Just can't.

Can't go into the Redzone FOUR times and not come away with points. Just can't.

It was a sloppy, sloppy game. We can do better.

Also, I'd rather lose week one. Gives us time to rise back up the polls.

Taylor Dever was beat a few times, but he looked to be against a good pass rushing duo. I think the OL looked great.

He did have 296 passing yards in the second half, so there's that.

He did, but the last drive or 2 was against a soft prevent defense. They knew the passes were coming and just wanted to contain and take time off the clock. Kudos to Tommy though, I take nothing away from him. First INT was not his fault, second one he'll learn from. As Mayock pointed out, he had Eifert on the wheel route down the sideline. Cierre was tremendous, Floyd otherwordly, Riddick not so much. Still can't get over the Ethan Johnson late hit, that was critical giving 1st down and taking additional 2 minutes off the clock. Big Big game next week. I think that we've seen the last of Dayne and we start recruiting Kiel again.

Guess we can keep saying the same thing we have for years, but I for one will remain positive. The way I look at it, USF is a solid team, but we beat ourselves. If we clean up even half of these ridiculous mistakes, we will be a very good team. Obviously it's a big if, but I will forever remain unapologizingly optimistic.

When Floyd made the high snag in between the safety and the corner I yelled, "AND THAT'S WHY HE'S THE BEST RECEIVER IN THE NATION!"

^ all of this. We dominated them in all aspects of the game, but gave it away on penalties and turnovers. I was never worried that we couldn't move the ball and I was never worried that their offense would. They had one good drive, that's it. I am still optimistic!

Per NDatRivals:

Theo is staying at Punt Return.

Kelly says the lines on both sides of the ball played well and will be "building blocks" moving forward.

Says punting has to do with how you perform in front of the huge crowd. Ben Turk is "our best guy".

On Lynch Tuitt and Nix: "they did some good things".

Starting QB still in question. Decision by Monday.

We have Rees, Hendrix, and Golson. Ship has sailed.

I'm afraid the staff doesn't have a lot of confidence in Hendrix. The fact that Golson grabbed his helmet when Rees went down in the 2nd half after the late hit, tells me Hendrix is buried on the depth chart. He's been there for a full year and sits behind Golson (who I believe has a bright future). I would love nothing more than for Hendrix to succeed on the field, I just don't know that it's going to happen. You're very likely correct w regards to Kiel, but if Crist isn't brought back next year, I'm not sure I'm comfortable w just 3.

This game was the epitome of why you play the game. Some of the stats give hope going forward for sure. We got beat, USF made plays with no mistakes. We made mistakes. We are good team, top 25 I think but not so good to overcome these kind of mistakes. There aren't many teams that can but those would be the top teams.

Thought Gray played hard, made some good runs after the fumble. In fairness to him he was being held up with a player underneath and the defensive player was in perfect position above him. Had lots of leverage on the ball and it appeared it still took a lot of muscle to get that ball out. A lucky bounce later and well.......

I expect no one was as surprised as Kelly as to the apparent nerves (or excitement) the team showed. Now that the first game is gone, hope the team stays confident but settles down.

Lots of talk about Kelly's sideline demeanor. Getting on players is part of football along with a few choice words. I was worried he was going to blow an artery. Right or wrong, that is going to be used against us in recruiting. Will it have an effect? We'll see.....

Riddick had a bad game. I expect no one feels worse. I'm placing my trust him that he will bounce back.

Whichever QB starts next week, let's roll. Michigan at night in the Big House? Are you kidding? Talk about a career maker?! WOW!

It's a long season. It's college football! I can't wait!!!

D looked very good.

Nix was tough and his movement down the line was impressive (Not just for a big man).

And if I am listing positives - I got a full hand shake before the game from Bob Diaco. I think my right arm is about twice the size of my left right now. Is that normal?

3. You may not have noticed, but the Irish defense is as good as advertised.

The Irish might have lost the game 23-20, but the Irish defense only gave up 254 yards to USF, a number that would’ve been their best total in all of 2010.

No USF player rushed for 50 yards. The leading receiver for the Bulls, Sterli Griffin, had eight catches for 75 yards, and USF didn’t have a play go for explosive yardage, with their longest play from scrimmage going for a modest 18 yards. (In comparison, the Irish had nine plays go for 18 yards or more.)

While the Irish weren’t able to force any turnovers from B.J. Daniels, a player who had plenty of them in 2010, they showed a few more exotic packages in their first game of the season, with Bob Diaco rotating linebackers Steve Filer, Prince Shembo, Darius Fleming into hand-on-the-ground pass rusher while using freshman Stephon Tuitt and Aaron Lynch liberally.

Major penalties against team leaders Harrison Smith (two facemasks) Gary Gray (a late hit and a pass interference) and Ethan Johnson (late hit) really hurt the Irish. But make no mistake, the Irish defense played well.

From NBC Sports.

This is why I'm optimistic.

Our defense is going to play a huge part in us winning a lot of games this year.

Seriously, Te'o was everywhere on that field. He single handily takes this D from "eh" to "niiiice".

Wood would have had an amazing game had we not been forced to throw the ball as much as we did in the second half.

Anyone know his YPC at the end of the game?
