Interesting ... Pro style vs spread. Florida will be a tough play. This could be very interesting.

Some recruits seem to think we run a pro-style. Baratti comes to mind. I don't think we're going to see strickly spread O this year.

Love it! Hope they didn't wake him though...

I once coached with a guy who was being recruited by West Point, they called him at 4:30am one day (this was the 1980's, not sure if the 6:00am rule was in effect). He asked them why the hell they would call him so early, to which they responded "Son, this is how early our day starts at West Point. We're ready to get after it!" Not amused as a 17-year old, he responded "I will never play football for a school that gets up this early" and hung up."

i wouldn't call that a mistake if that was his reaction to the call...he probably made the right decision.

I've wondered how recruits react to that kind of recruiting.
I know I wouldn't take calls that early....definitely not a morning person.
But I bet kids don't want to be bothered at 6am,let alone 430.

The thing is the coaches are very likely to be aware of a kid's schedule by now from building relationships with them, and know when they will be up for school in the morning. Just a thought, but I would assume that the coaches would be calling after they believe the recruit to be awake and before he starts school for the day - during either breakfast or transit.

"They're great academically," Marshall said. "We haven't gotten a chance to get up there but we've been wanting to visit."

While Notre Dame might pull at Marshall's intellect, Georgia, where he'll visit Sept. 9, pulls at his heartstrings.

"I've liked Georgia since I was a little kid," Marshall said. "Since I started getting recruited by them, I like Coach [Mark] Richt a lot and the rest of the staff. I like the town. I have family real close to Atlanta."

Florida has more of a football pull -- if the Gators' offense can deliver on what they've promised.

"[Offensive coordinator Charlie] Weis and Coach [Will] Muschamp, they're bringing in a pro-style offense," said Marshall, who added he's quite fond of Gainesville. "I'm anxious to see them this year. They told me to watch how they use [running backs] Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps and they can use me that same way."

I wish he'd have mentioned a bit more about ND.

I think you might be under valuing a West Point education. WP grads have are usually VERY successful in their careers and its an honorable way to get a first rate education. If the kid in the story ended up at some tier 3 school like Ball State, then he is probably selling used cars in Muncie, kicking himself that he didn't take the opportunity to get a first rate education and career opportunities that West Point provides.

I could see why a blue chip prospect would pass on West Point for a big time program, but if a kid passes on West Point for some "run of the mill" education, then they are simply throwing away a golden ticket.

Ehm...

Quite a kick in the nads there, dude. lol

Although you would have to be an idiot to think a West Point education isn't worth a lot.

haha No he ended up playing for Nick Saban and Gary Pinkle at Toledo and a public school principal. He's regarded as one of the best HS coaches in the Toledo area.

I just thought the 6:00am call was funny. Back to Keith...

Don't take this personally, but that guy you coached with is an idiot. I'm shocked that they didn't hang up on him as soon as he asked that question. If they needed to explain to him why they were calling so early, he wasn't going to make it there anyway so he probably saved himself and the Army lots of time.

And for all we know he's the happiest guy around....

It is severely short-sighted to assume this guy is an "idiot" and "ruined his life" by choosing to tell W.P. to beat it. Gimme a break.

Couldn't agree more...

His life, his choice. Far be it for ANYone of us to throw jabs at him because he didn't jive with west point.

Haha, I knew you would get a kick out of that. You know me though, I'm just playing like Irish Chocolate. My aunt went to Ball State and was on the board of directors for many years before retiring. Its a good school, just had to use an example, and I knew you wouldn't take offense.

I'll throw ya a vbeer when I am on my cpu and not my blackberry :)
