Watching the 9min video, i dont see 4.3. Lot of guys staying same distance and even catching ground a lil on long runs. I also c really bad conditioning, he looked like he was gonna die after every run. Ive neva really seen anything like that so consistently in highlight reels.

That will obviously be addressed in any big time program he goes to, so its not a big deal just something i noticed. I c more str8 line speed then shifty quickness. CB seems like an ideal spot and KR/PR is perfect for this kid.

Once he gets into a real strength and conditioning program, could be something special playing DB behind the D prospects of this year.

This guy is a track star...and you are saying he is out of shape? He is very very very fast....

Lets not kid ourselves, Darby has pure speed. He is not the fastest out there, but he is fast enough and I do believe that his speed translates very well to the CB position. He has speed, fluid hips, and ball skills which makes him so attractive to the coaching staff.

I don't know of any high profile recruit who's faster than Darby.

I was speaking in general if he stepped onto the college field and played, not specifically this class. Off the top of my head, Jeff Demps, Miles Shuler, Tacoi Sumler, Brain Kimbrow, Randall Carroll, Noel Divine, Marvin Bracy were/are all faster than him out of high school.

Some of them turn into gamers, and others just have speed. Randall Carroll was probably the fastest guy in the nation in 2008 and his big toe barely touches the field.

My statement was limited to 2012 recruits.

So Bracy appears to the fastest in class right now. Marshall and Darby look to be neck and neck for #2.

Kimbrow is definitely faster than Darby and Marshall.

I believe that speed is overrated at certain positions, but not in the CB. It is essential along with ball skills, fluid hips, awareness which I believe Darby has that makes him so highly touted. If it were just about straight line speed, Usain Bolt would be the highest paid CB player in the NFL.

All I was getting at is that his other skills are not to be overlooked. He is a great cornerback prospect with outstanding speed. Not a track guy that just so happens to play CB. Farmer over at USC has great speed and yet his teammate from Serra is probably the better receiver of the two.

Some really whacky comments here about Darby's speed. Of all the things to try to be negative about, his track-champion speed is about the least defensible. How many times would a guy have to prove it to reach some people??

Of course it could easily be true that there are people out there who post ridiculous comments just to get a rise. If Darby's in any sense "ordinary" I'll take several helpings of ordinary every recruiting season.

definitely faster?????? when we are talking one-hundredth of a second definitely should not be used....and depending on the day i say they are all interchangeable

and the conditioning statement: the kid is playing non stop, wr/rb/kr/pr/defense

If Darby is out of shape then the rest of our recruits are fat pigs. I just don't C it though.

I used to emulate Carlyle Holiday when I was little, and I don't think you should be allowed to have that name with a post like that. Welcome to the boards, but you're crazy.

This turned into a "my dad can beat up your dad" argument quickly. Do people really care about who's faster this much?

Who wouldn't be tired after a 60+yd return when you're playing KR/PR/DB/RB? Based on the highlight films I've seen, this is really where I ever see him visibly tired. It doesn't affect his speed, he just needs to catch his breath in the endzone.

You also have to factor in that the field is very muddy and not well taken care of for any of his highlight films, which makes it much harder to "look fast".

There is no doubt that he is one of the fastest guys in the country and the only real mark against him is that he doesn't play (or run) in the South. Look up some of his track highlights. He beats the pants off his counter-parts from MD and is very competitive against his international competition. I'm not sure about everyone else here, but I associate MD with speed; Maybe not overall, but the at the top level of competition.

He was part of a world youth record relay team earlier this year for God's sake.

I also don't believe that we should worry about conditioning at this point. One spring in Longo's program and he'll have all the conditioning he will need. Add 2-3 more years and I don't think there's any way he doesn't become a stud. Camp Kelly and Longo Beach will whip him into shape.

This guy is not a troll...just a terrible evaluator. He is the one who said Dorial is not a good receiver. This guy couldnt spot talent if it hit him in the face.

the only way you could question his speed is if you say his speed doesn't translate to the football field, which is definitely not the case here. I'll admit i've seen some fast kids in high school in track look slow on the field, but Ronald is a football first and track star second ala Ted Ginn Jr.

Those of you responding to my post seem to have In Shape and Conditioning confused.

2 completly diff things. Im just going by 1 video of 9 mins, it is also on a crappy field. Obviously a guy is gonna be tired after a 70 yard run, ive just never seen any look as close to death as him in any video EVER.

Hes playing football in a park basically, im gonna assume they dont have proper training equip or advisers at his school. So as i said its really a non issue after he gets into a real program.

ND has lacked anyone with any kind of speed since......... so have his momma cut off his phone, internet keep him on lockdown till signing day.

You said you seen only one video, so if you are going by the video on the front page it says it is his 2009 highlights which means he was a sophomore. But if you want a more updated one of his junior year there is one on page 3. HERE
