This got me stoked so I thought I would share, not sure if anyone else caught this.

I was watching college football live yesterday while cooking dinner, and they had the top 10 dark horses to win a national championship this year. I only caught the final 4, and the reason they believed they could win it all. Notre Dame was #4 and the talk was because they don't have any opponents that they can't beat on their schedule this year. They will be the favorite in 10 or 11 games this year. They also mentioned that BK gets tons of credit for his offensive coaching ability, but started out as a defensive coach and ND will have a top tier defense this year. The others where #3 Va Tech, #2 Wisconsin, and #1 South Carolina.

Side note-- At the beginning of the show they talked about Michael Floyd. One guy said he is the 2nd best player in College Football (Justin Blackmon) and that Golden was the talk of the town but Floyd is heads and shoulders above him as a WR (Better runner, creates more separation, and just flat out harder to cover and tackle)

Back to work, peace out homies!

I saw it as well....2 or 3 times when it got repeated later at night while I was writing up a set list.

Definite dark horse. But if the stars align...who knows.
I wouldn't go buying any NC tickets yet though.

I haven't seen where a recent show from CBS sports has been mentioned on the board, so here might be a good place. Just the other day, CBS Sports' college football discussion group [Brian Jones; Rich Rodriguez; Randy Cross; and NDs own Aaron Taylor] did a show on their consensus pre-season rankings. They rated Notre Dame 10th. [Ahead of us were the "usual suspects": Oklahoma; Alabama; Oregon; LSU; FSU; South Carolina; Boise State; --- these are not in order unless by luck --- and two others which slip my mind --- I think that Virginia Tech was one, but if Wisconsin wasn't in there then no Big Ten team was --- and I am not sure about Stanford either]. But the point here is: Why Notre Dame??

Taylor, Cross, and Jones all emphasized the two lines. They were extremely positive about the quality of the Bigs. Even Rich Rodriguez seemed to agree with that, although he emphasized Coach Kelly pretty highly too. And so did the other guys. What was most impressive to me was that none of the players [Taylor; Cross; Jones] were holding anything back as to their enthusiasm. They were, in fact, drinking a little Kool-Aid. Coach Rodriguez, while showing no animosity to ND whatever, tried to be a little cautionary due to the tough schedule. All these guys seemed to think that if we got off to a good start, that ND might even run the table, though, again, with our schedule that is asking a lot.

Once again, it was most interesting to me to see other persons evaluating our team and coming up with similar highly optimistic possibilities like we ourselves have.

Brian Jones picked us to win the National Championship.

OMM I didn't see that, but like it for sure. My boss (graduated from UGA) who doesn't care about ND one way or another said that he thinks ND is going to be the sports story of the year. I think when people other than us die hard fans start talking this way, then it just may happen.

I think it is becoming more and more apparent, based on what media-types from around the country are saying and conversations that I have had with knowledgeable fans of other programs, that we are not being completely delusional in our excitement for this team.

Hell, maybe everyone is wrong. But I don't think this is the typical case where we are getting WAY ahead of ourselves and overestimating the ability of our team. If anything, we've been conditioned to go the other way, but I have a harder time envisioning a scenario in which this team has a poor year than one in which they have a great one.

I agree RI. I think if we go into the USC game undefeated and win, that is the corner and we will have officially turned it. Based on the recruits that will be there and the level of excitement that will hit the program. I find it hard to believe we fall back into mediocrity for quite some time!

Count me as one of the Kool-Aid drinkers.....in years past, I've looked at our schedule and seen games where I just knew we'd lose or have no business being close. This year I fully expect to win every game and the only team Ifeel that we would have problems with is Stanford. I only point them out because of the way they manhandled us last season.

Manhandled is too harsh. It was 16-6 at the half and 19-6 at the end of the 3rd quarter. We had a terrible 4th quarter, and that happens. I think with JH gone it's going to make a world of difference....And not in a good way!

I'm very excited for the season to start but I'm keeping my optimism to myself this year. I've been burned way to many times in the past for drinking to much green kool-aid. I would hate to count the number of 12 packs i have lost to bets with my friends.

Are you sure that was DickRod and not an imposter? I didn't think he would ever show ND any love whatsoever.

Rich Rod, Chip Kelly, Brian Kelly, and Urban Meyer are all spread offense gurus. They all get along well and speak highly of one another.

I think Rich Rod and Brian Kelly share a beach house somewhere on the Mid-Atlantic coast.

I don't think that Coach Rodriguez carries any grudges except against administrators. He DID insist on the other guys giving him a little love for winning against Notre Dame two years though. He had a genuine smile throughout the whole deal.

IF it actually went that way and ND ran the table all the way to the NC game... It could possibly be the greatest 2-3 week stretch of my life. Here's why:

I moved to MS for work and my fam is in NY.

- 12/23 I go home and see my family and friends for Christmas.

- 12/30 My beautiful fiancee and I get married at a sick venue with all my party animal friends and family.

- 12/31 I celebrate New Years Eve in New York City (not in times square *awful*) bar-hopping.

- 1/1 We head off to Jamaica for our 6 night honeymoon.

- 1/6 We fly back in to MS and I take more time off work.

- 1/7 I drive 4 hours to New Orleans and watch what I've waited my whole life to see with my own eyes. Notre Dame become National Champions.

Epic potential.
