Any chance that we may be recruiting him as an athlete with the possibility of playing RB? Thought I read somewhere that he liked playing offense too.

He could play WR and RB which i am sure the staff has asked about but you out your best athletes on D.

Also they are selling him hard on the idea of coming in with Tee and Darby as a collective badass secondary

NSIAP.

Named his top 5:

Oregon, UCLA, Cal, Washington and Notre Dame

He's currently in summer school, getting his grades up. He will visit for the USC game.

If it's going to come down to wins, I like our chances along with Oregon. If it goes a step further and comes down to who is not about to get buried by the NCAA, I like our chances.

Must really like us cause there's no point getting your grades up for any of those other schools

Oregon-potential sanctions
UCLA-unless good season, bye bye Neuhisal(sp?)
Cal-another coach on the hot seat...unless a good season...see ya
Washington--???? Sark is going to have this program up and running...just not yet
Notre Dame--as others have said...win and they will come!

I'm sure they do. Being in-state may help.

TT,
This may not be that uncommon, but I remember a friend of mine who attended Cal in the early 80's, mentioning that the University could have filled their entire freshman class with 4.0 applicants (around 3500 students at the time.) Of course, like the majority of universities, gpa isn't the sole criteria for acceptance. As most people are aware, Cal is highly respected academically -among public and private institutions.

Stanford, Notre Dame, and Cal provide the most valuable degrees among BCS caliber schools (in that order).

Cal is also widely regarded to be leading for him, so his summer schooling doesn't really prove anything.

ND is very very good, but I wouldn't put the order quite that way. Stanford, Duke, Northwestern, even Vandy by some might be ahead of ND. Cal-Berkley is as highly respected as ND. But after Stanford, Duke and Northwestern it's just a matter of taste.

Edit: You wrote BCS caliber, and I read BCS eligible/automatic bid.

Top 30-year-ROI for College Degrees

Stanford (6) and Notre Dame (9) are the only two schools in the top 10 with FBS programs. Duke comes in at 11, but it's a door mat. Cal comes in at a respectable 23.

Edit: Vandy is 53 and Northwestern 66. So even disregarding the "BCS caliber" distinction, ND is 2nd of those schools you listed, and it's very close to Stanford.

The national alumni network and universal brand recognition really, really help ND's case in this discussion. Other than Stanford, it is unmatched among BCS football schools.

Cal is a great school, but very similar to USC with respect to their football admission requirements. It is not a hard school to get into if you are a wanted football recruit and they will consequently accept the bare minimum academically. I know of some Neanderthals that have been accepted. Notre Dame and Stanford are on a different level!

Wasn't Shaq committed to Cal? So why would he have to take summer classes to get his GPA up if he was allowed to commit, unless he is trying to EE or he is thinking about going somewhere else.

You don't need to get your GPA up to get early entrance. You just need to have your high school course work completed satisfactorily by December so you can enroll in January.

Rivals lists him with a reported 3.2 GPA which would be fine IF it's his core course GPA and not just his overall GPA. Unless he's trying to get his GPA higher for a school with tougher admission requirements, I suspect his going to summer school is to raise a grade in a deficient core course or to take a missing core course which he needs to graduate in December.

Per ESPN

Gridiron Kings arriving...

The West team will be without safety Shaq Thompson (Sacramento, Calif./Grant), whom ESPN Rise has been told is out because of an injury.

Is he still attending and just not participating? The reason I ask is because Shepard will be there and he's been in Shaq's ear for awhile. It'd be nice for them to continue to talk.

Maybe it's happened in the past and I just wasn't aware of it, but this group of recruits really seem to grab hold of the role of a recruiter. They're always talking to prospects about ND.

He will go he will participate in non contact drills. Tee is in his ear for sure. This class talks a lot more to other recruits than i can remember in a long time.
