I think Mahone would be a great addition for 2 reasons-- we finally get a blue chip RB in the fold...and we get a top player from Ohio to help quell the disdain that we aren't capitalizing on OSU's troubles.

Wouldn't that be spectacular if the verbal commitment was in the third part tomorrow? Could be one of the coolest commitments.

that would be a very cool way to end the suspense. Let your Mom, who cares and loves you so much enjoy breaking the news. I feel good about our chances in landing him soon.

I was thinking the same thing. That would be cool if that were the case.

I honor Rocket89's thinking in the 9-10 page area of this thread [about the threat of a super-burner in the RB position]. He is a perceptive poster. But on young Mr. Mahone, I think that there's a winner here --- a BIG winner. I don't know if he can "take it to the house" from 60 yards out, but he seems EXPLOSIVE. His 35" vertical also tells me that. I could easily see him ripping through to the secondary level and terrorizing d-backs.

I hope all is well with his ACT. He seems, and his Mom seems, like the sort of people who would thrive with the Notre Dame environment and take off on a great life. Love it when, like Peat, he tweets the spiritual side of Notre Dame in pictures and not only football...good vibes. And being at The Opening has to have helped with our young supermen being there. [and maybe no one from PSU].

Young man, Coach Kelly can say: "Come to Notre Dame!!" without spitting all over the camera. Join us in the future of football as well as the traditional past. *

* sincere apologies to Coach Paterno, but C'Mon Man, Retire!

Mike, that is what I gathered from watching his film. He seems to find and hit the whole with ease and then explode. I'm real high on this kid and think a combo of him and a Marshall (more likely B) would be stellar.

He is a stellar back not a huge home run threat but a great running back and athlete can catch the ball runs people over runs hard and has a great burst I think he would be a great back to get

With a 3 part story on ISD which includes a glowing review of ND by Mahone's mom (always a +) and of a lifetime of faith, how is he not already Irish? I'm well aware that the article has a slight slant to it. But seriously, pull the trigger young man.

Looking forward to reading part 3 of the article. Thanks for sharing it TT. I love reading about this kid and his mom and it kind of gives you an idea of the people they are. Notre Dame would be the best of both worlds for this young man as it can give him both outstanding opportunities on the football field and in the classroom. This would be a very welcome addition to our class for so many reasons. He seems like the perfect kind of kid you want to come to ND and we really need a couple of good running backs in this class. Hope he pulls the trigger and becomes Irish soon.

It sounds like Mom really enjoyed Notre Dame and what is has to offer. I like our chances here. We all know that a mother's opinion can sometimes be more influential than anything else. There is no doubt that William would thrive at ND. By coming to Notre Dame, William gets a great education in a faith based institution and has the chance to see early playing time on the field with our lack of depth at Running back. Looks like everyone could win here if he were to decide to commit. I guess we will see.

Agreed we definitely have mom in our corner, and Will could surely be in the mix for early playing time. I could actually see this kid becoming our every down back a year or two from now, and not just the thunder to a guy like Cierre's lightning. Mahone has some serious cut and go ability and open field speed of his own, ESPECIALLY for a 200+ lb back. I think he could thrive in this offense as long as he is comfortable catching the ball, and willing to work hard and execute blitz pickups.

Hey Irish Fans,
I'm long time reader first time poster! What an amazing article on a great family. He definitely seems like he belongs at ND, hopefully that becomes a reality. It was great to also hear that Armani Reeves gave him "rave reviews" about ND, both of those prospects would be an amazing addition to the class. Go Irish!!!

Welcome! I agree that is great to hear Armani talking to William about how impressed he was. Both kids would be welcomed with open arms.

Was the Armani "rave reviews" in the III part article? If so I missed them. I did read where Mahone, while at PSU, met "a friend" of Armani's. As I read it it was the "friend" and not Armani who had the rave reviews. ND is in Reeves Top 2 but I think the reference was to a different recruit.

... But while William was at Penn State, he met a friend of Massachusetts athlete Armani Reeves, who had recently visited Notre Dame and had rave reviews. ...

It's a bit unclear, but if it was the other recruit's rave review, why exclude that kid's name but include Armani's? It seems Mahone met a friend of Armani who, in turn, conveyed to Mahone the fact that Armani had a great time in South Bend.

If we sign 1 power, 1 speed, and 1 hybrid RB, the Coaches will get an "A" in my book. Mahone is a ideal fit in the power role, and would perfectly compliment, say, B. Marshall and KeiVarae Russell or I'Tavius Mathers.

After reading this stuff, I have to think it will be an upset if he doesn't end up Irish. Both from a football perspective and culturally it seems like a perfect fit for the young man.

This is what I read on part II BGIF:

"But while William was at Penn State, he met a friend of Massachusetts athlete Armani Reeves, who had recently visited Notre Dame and had rave reviews. William decided he wanted to check it out for himself and both he and his mother are glad they did."

To me it sounds like the friend said that Armani had rave reviews. I could have read it wrong, though. But I'm still glad we are sitting pretty with both prospects.

Because Armani's a high profile recruit and the other kid isn't, at least in ND circles and the writer writes for an ND audience. He should have mentioned the other recruits's name and put "a friend of Armani Reeves" in apposition. But that wouldn't spark interest the way the writer's construction did. Hits, hits, hits.

I like Mahone too.

Mahone's mother reminded me of a recruit's mom for the Carolinas that signed under Weis. The mom had a tougher road not be able to pay the utlity bills some months. When she learned the value of an ND education, the decision was over.

I've really enjoyed reading these. It sounds like William is a great kid and is well rounded. Props go out to his mom for bringing up this young man the right way. Wherever William goes I wish him nothing but the best. I think Notre Dame would be a great thing for him. If he chooses ND, he will know that his degree truly does mean something.

That makes some sense, but I think you kind of concede the point by saying what he should have done. What he did do made it sound like it was Armani's opinion:

"But while William was at Penn State, he met a friend of Massachusetts athlete Armani Reeves, who had recently visited Notre Dame and had rave reviews. William decided he wanted to check it out for himself and both he and his mother are glad they did."

If it was a kid who visited ND and had rave reviews, I think coach D would have mentioned him. I bet it was Camren Wilson, Reeves' teammate and Penn State commit.

“The teachers say William is pretty humble. They say he’s just a nice kid, really respectful and I’m like, ‘Yeah, he better be. I raised him to be that way.’”

What an awesome mom, who wouldn't want this kid at there school and on there team. I'm really pulling for him to come to ND more then any other prospect/recruit. Every program needs character guys, eg. Manti Te'o. I think I'm going to surf around and see if any other sites have posted a simliar story on this family.

He sounds like a really great kid. After reading these articles I'd be surprised if he doesn't pick ND, it seems like a match made in heaven.

the only thing that i think would be working against us is possibly the distance from home...yes ND isn't that much farther away, but it's defintitely not as close as Penn st or pitt for that matter.

Shouldn't be that much of a factor I would think. ND is a little less than 5 hours from Austintown. The ISD article on the first page of this thread also quotes Mahone as saying that his mother could potentially go with him for an opportunity like this. From the sounds of it his mother has sacrificed a great deal and would do more so for a great education. You can tell from how she wanted him to play for Ursuline (who, btw are the Fighting Irish also ) that a faith/values-based, quality education is a top priority for her. Notre Dame offers that more so than any other top program. I can't wait to see this guy this fall. Fitch is playing Glenoak, which is 2 minutes from where I go to college; should be a great one!

I think that's where Brionte Dunn goes right? Should be a great game watching the two best backs in Ohio.
