This battle is far from over. Outcomes on the field will have a lot to do with the overall decision. Cal wont be much better than years past. I think we pull this one out in the end if the staff still wants him.

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Live chat: WR Bryce Treggs

Rivals chat with Bryce. Seems like we've made a strong impression... but with the fact that he's not likely to commit soon I have a gut feeling that we have a slot guy maybe grab his spot before the all-star games roll around. If not, I'd definitely say it's a coin flip right now with Cal... there appear to be a lot of positives each way.

BryceTreggs tweet:

RT @TodayTrader: @BryceTreggs You and Kline can make magic at CAL. Please make it happen. Stay West young man. Forget the cold and bad weather of ND.

Gotta love it.

That's not as funny as the Michigan fan that told Andrus Peat to come to UM so that Greg Mattison could "develop you like he developed Ray Lewis" (paraphrased).

On the field and off, two of the most polished players on any team were Payton and Bellflower (Calif.) receiver Bryce Treggs. The two are friends and with Payton no longer a lock to go to USC, the two have started to explore the possibility of playing together at the next level instead of against each other on the turf at SMU.

“We're actually talking about that,” Treggs said. “That'd be pretty good. I mean, if me and Jordan go to the same school, it'd be pretty much unfair.”

When asked about Payton's 'Fab Five' remarks, the 5-foot-11, 175-pounder opened up a little bit more about the prospect of them playing together.

“Well you have all those players that went to Michigan and made it the program they are today,” Treggs said. “He's basically saying that we might be able to do that. Not necessarily that we're going to do it at Michigan but that's his idea. Him, me, Shaq Thompson, Ishmael Adams, a lot of guys.”

“The Cali Five, I guess.”

Treggs said he unofficially visited Oregon, Oregon State, Cal, UCLA, Arizona State, Stanford and Notre Dame over the past few months. Many observers have read the tea leaves and believe that he will eventually end up playing for his father's alma mater, Cal, though. It's easy to see why they believe that whenever Treggs is asked who is recruiting him the hardest.

“Probably Cal... definitely Cal,” he said. “It's not a lock, I'm going to look at all of my other options. I'm pretty sure I'm going to make a decision before the season so I can get it out of the way and focus on having a good senior year. I hope I can lead my team to a CIF championship.”

Treggs was blowing by corners with ease despite the sweltering heat, scoring several touchdowns by utilizing the fade route along the numbers Saturday. Running routes in 101 degree heat was a bit of an adjustment for someone used to ocean breezes and Santa Anna winds however.

“It was very hot,” Treggs said. “In California, we've got that breeze from the beach and stuff like that. After the first two games we adapted to it so we're fine right now.

“I would say I'm in the zone right now. We have so many receivers on our team, you never know when you're going to get the ball with so many weapons. There's not really one go-to guy so I just run my route hard every time and when Troy (Williams) picks me, I'm ready to make a play.”

Williams, a 2013 player who was one of the sharper quarterbacks at the event, and Treggs easily had the best timing at the event and it was not limited to deep routes. The connection between the two runs deep and was developed over years of playing together.

“The timing has been there since forth or fifth grade,” Treggs said. “We used to play Pop Warner for the Carson Colts together. So the timing is definitely there and it's good to be out here with somebody you know.”

Treggs, it seems, knows just about everybody and it will be interesting to see what coaching staff gets to know him the best through the recruiting process.

Isn;t the Cal coach one of the coaches on a hot seat?

Tedford among many others. Decreasing wins every year recently - losing season last year - Stanford passed them up (it didn't take them long after Harbaugh took over). This is a big year for him.

California itself is on the hot seat. UCLA and USC need good years to avoid talks.

Isn;t the Cal coach one of the coaches on a hot seat?

Neuhiesel's seat is a lot hotter than Tedford's at the moment. He's probably the most successful coach at CAL in over 50 year. But if CAL doesn't take advantage of USC's and Oregon's NCAA woes and the expansion of the PAC 10 (Utah and CU on their schedule this year) Tedford could join Neuhiesel and Paul Wulff. Teford's padded the '11 schedule with Division II (below Division I-AA) Presbyterian College in South Carolina. Presbyterian is so bad they lose to the likes of Liberty College (Jerry Falwell's place)

A bad year should hurt recruiting but then if he hangs on he sells immediate PT. And if he knocks off SU, USC, and UCLA he has a title to draw recruits.

NLA 7on7 national championship: The weekend's top performers

3. Bryce Treggs, WR, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco
For the second consecutive day, Treggs made some really spectacular plays look easy at wide receiver. He’s not a big kid but he’s big enough and he showed Velcro hands, crisp route-running and the ability to make a lot of big plays vertically.

Recruiting: Cal is the leader and it should be just a matter of time before Treggs commits to Jeff Tedford.

What kind of talent does Cal have right now?

The 94th ranked passing game.. 5 wins last year.

No real star at QB. Kevin Riley had pretty good numbers but I never really saw him play.

Vereen 1000+ yd back last year.

Their two current recruits are Zach Kline QB and Mike Barton LB, both 4*.

Cal seems like another program where 4 and 5*s go to be irrelevant... Unfortunately ND has been like that for a few years.

But, obviously thats all about to change for us ;)

Anyone ever hear Marshawn Lynch speak? I believe it was Sports Science where I first heard him talk. My jaw dropped when I realized he had a Cal education.

....and he makes more money than all of us combined.

I did like his reason for committing to Cal at the end though. Because he committed to college. Props for that.

3.28? Meh. You have to take into account that he probably did ~30% of the work.

When I was visiting some lady friends at Ohio State, Carlos Hyde (one of the backs) offered me $100 to write his paper for him. I had known the guy for like five minutes. SMH.

I got paid 5 bucks once to do about 4 easy, "mental-math" Algebra I problems for our high school's starting point guard. :p

Oh, and I was a freshman and he was a senior...

What kind of talent does Cal have right now?

They have been on a down swing recently but since LuPoi got hired there last two classes have been really strong. Need a QB but they look to have a bounce back season this year

Tedfords a good coach but to me Cal is a program with a ceiling. He should have left 3-4 years ago to a bigger program
