We are going to do all above ....except no FireWorks for our family....we (southwest) are under severe drought and extreme issues with fires. So we will watch the "offical" fireworks put on by the local experts.

I go to a friend's party, every year. This year will be the 40th anniversary of his 4th of July party.

On the grill you can find: Ribs, shrimp, beef, pork, salmon, oysters, brats, and chicken. About 150 people bring the "sides" and desserts. It's death by barbeque, metaphorically speaking.

Oh yes, and.......... lots of beer and whiskey!

I work with an kid/adult with autism so i'm not in that sector but schools are getting kicked in the beans just like everyone else. Pretty scary times.

Something to ponder over the weekend as we enjoy our freedom via the holiday. Enjoy the 4th, Go ND.

To Kill an American

You probably missed this in the rush of news, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper, an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.

So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is. So they would know when they found one.
(Good one, mate!!!!)

'An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, Arab, Pakistani or Afghan.

An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans..

An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan . The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.

An American is also free to believe in no religion.. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.

An American lives in the most prosperous

land in the history of the world..

The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence , which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.

An American is generous.. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.

When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!

As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan ..

The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America

Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001, earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.

So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world.. But, in doing so, you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

Please keep this going!
Pass this around the World .
Then pass it around again. It says it all, for all of us.
Pass it on first.
Thanks!

...and as far as actual plans go for the weekend, waterskiing and BBQing this afternoon and evening on a great lake (where the Seeds of Peace Camp is), golf tomorrow, additional celebration on Mon (Bro in law birthday party) with 3 on 3 BBall games. To tie into another thread, Gearys HSA is a tremendous beer to drink and I will enjoy numerous pints of them. HSA = Hampshire Special Ale. Stay Thirsty my Friends.

To Kill an American

...

Thanks!

I've never read that before and repped you but it turns out it wasn't written by an Australian Dentist. (You can keep the rep.)

According to Snopes.com it was written by Peter Ferrara, Associate Professor at the George Mason University School of Law. It was published in the National Review two weeks after 9/11. According to Snopes the sentence about victims from 30 different countries was added by someone else. The rest was well phrased by Ferrara.

The original piece was titled:

What Is An American?
A primer.

By Peter Ferrara, an associate professor of law at the George Mason University School of Law.

I have BIG plans. First a fifth of Yukon jack and a 6pack of Coca Cola...Johnsonville cheddar brats, laying in the pool all weekend trying to perfect my sunburn, and 3 straight nights of illegal fireworks!

(In michigan it's illegal to shoot off bottle rockets, or anything with a whistle that shoots into the air)

And yes, we have plenty of rain here in the midwest. There are jobs in the medical field, be a NURSE! :)

Just make sure that it's an "American" fifth, such as Bourbon. No Jameson, Canadian Club, Scotch, Sake, Vodka, etc.

On a side note, is it a sign of one's age to understand a reference to a "fifth?" We may still have 2 X 4's in inches and miles on the highway rather than kilometers, but, other than milk and beer, most liquids in containers come packaged in liters rather than ounces and gallons.

Ribs, sausage, watermelon, and beer. Awesome. And blowing stuff up. God bless the US

Family, friends and fireworks! BBQ chicken, hotdogs & plenty of side dishes; plus plenty of beer! Life is good, isn't it!?! Everyone enjoy the holiday and keep our military in our thoughts and prayers!

Wife and I are going up to our place in the mountains for a little peace and quiet. My dogs hate the fireworks. We will have plenty of beer and BBQ.

One of my lasting memories of a 4th of July was some years back when I walked out of my front door to walk across the street to "my" park to watch the annual fireworks. There was a large family of Mexican immigrants (legal or illegal, I don't know ... or care) in a pickup looking for a place to park just before the show was to start.

With what little Spanish I know, I told them (it was more like pantomime) that they could pull into my front yard. I sat in the bed of the truck with a bunch of thrilled-to-the-hilt niños and niñas who couldn't understand most of what I said. (With the parents, the cerveza I offered was the universal translator.)

No matter! We all enjoyed the display. They left grateful that they were in America ... and so did I.

So, on the 4th I'll drink some beers, grill some burgers and dogs with neighbors and watch the show: fireworks with an incredibly diverse and vibrant crowd of people celebrating the experiment that is America.

Gotta Love the 4th of July weekend!

Gotta Love the 4th of July weekend!

Is there anything better than eating burgers and dogs with you friends and family, then going to watch fireworks at night? Well if we happen to get a commit next week that would make the watermelon taste even sweeter. Have a great 4th everyone and be safe...

Hmm...Jarron Jones?

And agreed. I love Independence Day. And my brother's birthday is the 3rd so there will be plenty of celebrating over the next three days.
