One of the best movies ever! I'm still surprised that there are people out there that haven't even heard of it.

me too, but of course, i only watched it cuz a buddy of mine told me that i had to watch it....so i borrowed his dvd and never returned it. haha.

btw, that's where my avatar comes from.

The Lion King was my favorite movie for the longest time.

Since then though, Avatar is one of the greatest movies I've ever seen.

if you want to go classic, then....rear window (the original), north by northwest are two of my favorites oldies but goodies.

So I'll just name a top group in no particular order...

Rudy
Pulp Fiction
Fistful of Dollars
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
For A Few Dollars More
Yes I just named all three of the "Man With No Name" Trilogy or "Dollar" Trilogy
The Graduate
Big Fish

And I could keep going. That list doesn't even include my favorite comedies. Or all the James Bond movies I love. (Sean Connery was the best.)

If I had to pick one which is hard it would be Fast Times at Ridgemont High! Tombstone, Glory, Varsity Blues, The Departed, Gladiator, and A Christmas Story definitely are all up there.

Though our own Bambi might prefer this take:

I have stayed out of this thread because it is so hard to name just ONE movie. There are some incredible movies named previously here.

If I had to pick one, I would have to say Star Wars. It had the biggest impact on me and has the most sentimental value. I saw it for the first time at Gromann's Chinese theater in Hollywood when I was six. The opening scene with the Star Destroyer going overhead blew my mind. My seat shook from the sound and that was back in the day before THX or even Dolby. For the effect it had on me, this would be the biggest movie.

Others of note for me: Seven, Legends of the Fall, Shawshank Redemption, Godfather 1 & 2, Dances with Wolves, Office Space, Rudy, Braveheart, Field of Dreams, Major League, Airplane, Blues Brothers, and Animal House to name a few.

Well, I had this entire list though out in my head, and you friggin stole it. Crazy how many movies we have in common! Fantastic list...I would only take out Star Wars, Dances w Wolves, and maybe Blues Brothers.

I would add Dumb and Dumber, Goodfellas, Casino, and Gladiator.

Some guilty pleasures, not great movies per se but incredibly rewatchable:

Teen Wolf
Roadhouse
La Bamba
Karate Kid
There's Something about Mary
The Hangover

Scent of a Woman
Cool Hand Luke
as far as recent films I would have to say The Rite was up there.
I also liked The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal. Red dragon was OK but just didn't quite measure up.

Anyone here like The Big Chill? That is another I left off my top-10, only because I forgot about it. But I love that movie. Even though its about college friends, it reminds me a lot of my group of friends from high school.

Plus, it probably has the best soundtrack of any movie I can think of. (Royal Tenenbaums is a close second.)

Would add Happy Gilmore, Wedding Crashers and Anchorman. Can live without Teen Wolf and Karate Kid (maybe showing my age a little bit - I have an anti-eighties bias). Never seen La Bamba.
