I like this kid- he changes directions without losing speak and is not afraid of deliviering the hit to the defender.

I like him as the between-the-tackles compliment to a guy like Byron Marshall. The one thing that jumps out to you watching his film is that he is quick with good strength but seriously lacks top-end/break-away speed. There are probably about a half-dozen or so backs I'd rather have that our currently on our board; but someone with his skill set is necessary for the success of the team with Roberson injured and Jonas graduating.
In other news, I don't see any way he doesn't end up at PSU or OSU.

IDK Lax...The Marshals and Sanders jr are the only backs I'd take over him. Mahone is good. Real good.

Agreed. He has some wheels! Plus that turn around catch was sick. Backs that can catch out of high school seem rare outside of the top 5.

Guys, I have my reservations about his 4 star rating. Please trust me on this. I'm sure he's a great kid, but he hasn't even rushed for 1000 yds in a HS season yet. Although, there are many good teams on Fitch's schedule, There are also teams that he should have been gashing for 250 yds. Sorry guys!

According to his scout profile he averaged 7.7 ypc. Which seems like it's just a lack of carries would be why he hasn't reached 1,000 yards. I could be wrong though

Mahone not reaching 1000 yet, might have something to do with his QB recently being offered by Oregon. There is a lot of talent on his squad...and only one ball.
Think about this....what is the first thing we have to do to beat Michigan St, and what terrifies us against Sparty.......the run game...
Mich St ALWAYS has that 3star-low 4star back from ohio/indiana/michigan that carves up teams season after season....Mahone is their top target if not close to it....that says a lot to me.
Id be more than happy to have the kid.

What Mahone is: an extremely vital piece and necessary complement to whatever speed demon we land because we need a guy to run between the tackles. Seems to have a nice blend of ability and run strong.
What Mahone is not: "the answer" at RB. Simply put we must also have another back with breakaway speed and pass catching ability to run our offense the way we want to.
We need both guys. No one plays with one RB anymore. There are few Mahones still left out there... and many more of the "lightning" type guys. I really hope we land him, but I also understand where Epitome is coming from. There are a lot of other guys on our board that I think are better (in the sense of fit for our offense).

I'm addressing this to your earlier comment, and anyone else that makes stupid comments about recruits. Don't you think there is a reason he has been offered a scholarship to the University of Notre Dame football team? We don't just go handing out recruits to anybody.If Kelly feels this kid deserves an offer, he deserves it. You guys base assumptions of numbers and seeing maybe a couple of minutes of game film from a year prior.Coaches watch relentless video, in-person games and workouts, and interviews with the young men. I'm sure they know what they're doing.
If you guys feel he shouldn't, then go join the staff and direct Kelly on how to recruit.

This logic is exactly why we have sucked in recent years. You think Willingham's 2* recruits were good because they got an offer from ND? Get real.
No one said he didn't deserve an offer. That would be ludicrous. Epitome just expressed some reservations. Also, all Epitome said was basically that he liked some guys better... which is exactly how the staff feels about RBs too. Not all offers are created equal.
