ND v. Purdue Preview

He gets a few minor details wrong, but otherwise it's a pretty good preview. Always nice to see fear/ respect from one's opponents.

I normally wouldn't bring something like this to the board's attention, but it's a super slow news day. TIFWIW

As a sophomore at Purdue, this is my first real chance to get up close to all the players.

Considering the "Ross-Aide Brigade" is right behind the visitor sideline, I'll be at the game hours early... As I said in the Father's Day Thread, I have 5 other Purdue friends that'll be cheering on ND with me!

Should be an awesome night!

A fairly well reasoned preview for a rivals site.

Know how you feel. Did my undergrad at Purdue, and always got crap for rooting for ND when they came to town.

You gotta love the morons that think you can't be a fan of a program if you didn't go there. According to their logic, every child in America has no right to take a rooting interest in any collegiate athletic event because they "never went there."

*Back on topic, the guy did an alright job previewing the game. I wouldn't expect rose colored glasses from anyone, much less a fan of a rival.

It's pretty funny reading the comments from Purdue fans. I know ND has high expectations and other fan bases may think that that makes us stuck up. I just get a kick out of reading what they think.

I sat in the Purdue student section with some buddies two years ago and lets just say they didn't take well to me going nuts when Rudolph caught that TD to win.

I just bought three tickets for this game since they were face value.

What am I getting myself into? I've never been there before.

Overall, You'll find a lot of ND fans there.

My Dad and Uncle being two of them.

Being a student there, we can get a little crazy, but I consider that pretty normal for any college rivalry...

But as long as you aren't an IU fan, you won't get too much crap lol.

Did you see the comment where the guy says "They also let their football players get away with murder (literally) and their best wide receiver had his 3RD drinking incident while at ND and he will still most likely play every game this year! I HATE ND"......

Are you serious?!?!?... Have I missed something? Can someone please tell me which one of our players has murdered someone recently??

Don't eat the hot dogs; they are the worst in the nation.

Tailgating = Good

Breakfast Club on Chauncey Hill = EPIC (SI voted it "best pre-game ritual" in the nation a few years ago)

Stadium Experience = Glorified high school atmosphere (sorry to say, but true)

This should be nothing more than a mudhole stomping. Progress means going forward and if we dropped 23 on them with Kerrigan, then 30+ is not out of the realm. We should also shut down their scoring by atleast a FG. I expect this game to be in the realm of 38-10.

Ughhh... don't remind me about breakfast club. Man I wish I were 21, I have two older cousins and they live for the breakfast club..

But this game should be a huge blow out.

Their field goal kicker has a range of over 65 yards; a couple of good receivers and at least one back have talent.
This game may be closer that we think if their QB is on.

I hope they're dumb enough to actually try a field goal from the 50. It'll be easy points going the other way. Their receivers are "meh" compared to the rest of our schedule... so if Gray and Blanton get beat by them we're in for a long season.

No one but Denard Robinson and Air Force will have success running the ball on us this season. I guarantee that*

They'd be better served starting Henry over Marve. They'll need Henry's wheels at QB to try and escape the constant pressure we'll be bringing.

You're gonna like the way our run defense looks.

Thank you for the positive comments. I think we have the ability to keep it close, and being at home helps, but I don't have a lot of confidence. Our ridiculous timeout two years ago says all I need to know about our coaching staff.

Honestly one of the better researched previews I've read (including pay sites). Kudos. Good luck to you guys in every game but one ;)

True story, purdue fans are horrible. When rudy caught that touchdown to win the game 2 years ago me and my 65 year old father got hit with cups and other stuff. Simply because we were wearing ND jerseys, almost got into mulitple fights and security wasnt much help either.

You have no idea how happy I am that you reneged you're first prediction. :)

Oh and please feel free to comeback whenever and provide a Purdue fan's perspective on our football team.

WhiskyJack and IrishLax were on the mark. Fine article better than most of the pro reviews.

I found this was your most salient point:

... I think ND actually grew from adversity last year for the first time in ages, and that is a good thing if you're an Irish fan. They got better when it mattered. ...

This is a maturing team.

I agree with your prediction but I'll be disappointed if ND gives up 17 points in this game.

Kerrigan is gone and Marve isn't Mike Phipps and there is no Leroy Kelley to make plays in all facets of the game. Manti and Company should hold this one to 10 points or less.

ND fans do take Purdue for granted. Most of them today have no clue that Ara Parshegian, who only lost 17 games in 11 season in South Bend. lost 5 games to Purdue. His 6-5 record against the Boilers is the worse for any opponent except his 3-6-2 record against Southern Cal. Twice ND entered the game as the #1 team in the nation and lost. Twice ND was ranked #2 and lost.

Post more often. Keep us updated on Preseason Camp.
