He is being recruited at DT not OG. I have been told his size is a question and that he might not be what it says he is. Height and weight wise.

It says he's 6'3" 285lbs....just by watching that last video it seems to be legit. But what's the deal with his size that's affecting his recruiting with ND?

The if would be his listed 6'3" height. My guess. He looks shorter.

I thought he looked more 300-ish too.

I still don't see why there'd be a problem based on his measurements though.

So, I tried to put myself into Tommy's sz 14 shoes, and this is what I come up with. (purely speculative garble)

OSU - Like the program, best on the field product over my lifetime for midwest teams. I dont like the sanctions though and will be keeping them at 3rd on my list unless something magical happens in regards to their current issues.

PSU - Love the tradition and players. I fit well into their defensive scheme and would be the gem of their class. It would be cool to play for a legendary coach like Paterno. Unfortnuetely, Paterno may not live through my college tenure and, although I would be the gem of the class, they probably arent going to have a strong recruiting class. They havent shown me anything to make me think that they are a BCS contender.

ND - Close to home, love Kelly, love the staff, love the tradition. Best choice academically as well as culturally. I would play with several elite talents surrounding me, but would have to play NT. Very challenging.

Since I remind some dude named Woolybug of a new age Zorich, I think that I will choose ND and proceed to cut the bottom half of my jersey off so my belly hangs out. This will look awesome when I go apesh!t after ripping Shane Morris' head off in the future 58-0 beatdown we put on Michigan.... yup.

Seriously? I thought we were out of the running here.

If he's actually the size he says he is (6'3" 305) that seems like an awesome build for a NT coming into college. Will be super stoked to land him or any of the flex guys like Kirven or J. Jones.

No matter what we still have a ton of time to get this guy, the football season hasn't even started

I agree that there's a certain logic to this. However I think you might be underestimating the "best product over my lifetime for midwest teams" aspect.

Look at USC. Their situation a year or so ago is very comparable to Ohio State's now. Scandal hits, famous coach bolts, and young coach comes in to take the punishment. Kiffin was able to land a recruiting class full of exceptional skill players (Blackwell, Lee, Farmer, Wittek, etc); he was still able to recruit at a high level (which is different from recruiting at an EFFECTIVE level) despite the NCAA sanctions. Both also have rabid fan bases that expect their teams to be consistent players in the BCS with the exception of a "reloading" year. See USC, Texas, Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Michigan until recently.

We should also keep in mind the pedigree that Luke Fickell brings. He was the LB coach from 2004 on and was named the co-defensive coordinator in 2005. In that time, think about the linebackers Fickell has coached (Hawk, Laurinaitis, Carpenter, etc). Also take note that OSU has pumped 23 defensive players to the NFL since 06. Players like Schutt and Odenigbo take notice of these things, and they're probably told this by the coaching staff.

Since the recruits in this cycle have been 7 or 8, they've only seen Tressel and Ohio State kick *** in the regular season. On top of that, they've seen OSU compete every year for the Big 10 title, play in a BCS game, sign top prospects, and get players to the NFL. These recruits have only seen Notre Dame get their *** kicked by LSU in the Sugar Bowl, fire Ty Willingham, fire Charlie Weis, watch very few players from ND get drafted, Brady Quinn wind up as a third string QB, and "the boy with the golden arm" fall to the 2nd round only to then get replaced by Cam Newton.

Given, Luke Fickell hasn't had to put an entire finished product on the field at OSU yet. However, the part he has contributed to the team in the past has been exceptional. Until Notre Dame can prove they should be counted among College football's elite again, they will lose many head-to-head recruiting battles with Ohio State (or Florida, Alabama, Texas, USC, LSU, etc).

For these reasons I think OSU will still remain a hot commodity among recruits because of the star power associated with the football program.

I don't think the sanctions will scare kids as much as the idea that they will have someone breathing down their neck all the time. Certain schools have a reputation for taking it easy on you in terms of academics and discipline. If Ohio State loses that reputation--if it takes the high road for a while--the kind of kids it attracts will change. Think MIAMI. It was not the sanctions, but the institutional decision to have a respectable program, that killed the Program. All those kids are choosing FSU (now that FSU is actually recruiting again) while they were choosing Florida while Meyer was there. Most OSU kids will choose Michigan, Michigan State, FSU, Auburn, or some other SEC team, in my opinion.

As far as USC, they basically said to the recruiting world, "Sure we are being sanctioned, but we hired Lane Kiffin too, didn't we, wink, wink... Carry on."

That's why Notre Dame will not benefit too much from OSU's problems. Most kids that chose OSU are not a natural fit for ND- some are for sure.
