"They could be favored in their first 11 games, are a much stronger team and all 9 sets of my power rankings call for double digit wins with 3 of them calling for a 12-0 season!"

He had us ranked 7th in 2009.

And, were it not for the utter fail that was Jon Tenuta + our S&C making us AWFUL in the 4th quarter, we would not have lost more than 2 games.... tops. 2009 had so much wasted potential - looking back at the box scores - that it blows my mind.

What does "PS#" mean in his preview?

I think it's where he had the player ranked at his position coming out of high school.

So he had Filer as PS#1, meaning the top OLB in his class.

We're absolutely loaded with PS Top 20 players, too. In terms of talent no one should be THAT surprised with a No. 6 ranking.

I assumed player ranking as well, by position.

For example Te'o is is #1 ILB, Floyd is his #2 WR

But, if you look at like Crist (#5), Cierre Wood (#4), and Jonas Gray (#5) it doesn't make sense.

But Crist, Wood, and Gray were all VHT's!!!

Very Highly Touted.

Why doesn't that make sense?

I would like to see that actually. i don't think it will happen though.

Unless Ishaq really struggles in development... there is just no value added to having him at CAT. We saw what a difference Brian Smith made at ILB over Carlo with his athleticism. Filer has the size and speed to do the same thing. Shembo/Spond - Te'o - Filer - Fleming just looks so awesome on paper.

Steve Filer needs to get a shot at ILB........

He needs to do something. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

If you look back at our defense, we've really lacked talent at linebacker until very recently...which is one of the main reasons I'm very hopeful about the future.

But Filer was the #8 MLB (Rivals), #4 (Scout), #9 (ESPN) and Steele's #1 recruit at his position.

16 tackles through 3 seasons. It would be a big shame if he didn't have a great season in 2011, and even still, he'll be viewed as a relative bust.

Filer should have been redshirted his freshman year. Instead, Weis played him for 2 minutes, burning his redshirt. What a shame. A 5th year out of Filer would surely put him and the team in better shape.

It's amazing how many players are coming back from last year's team. 20 out of 24 and the 4 new starters all got significant playing time last year.

The two weakest points on our team are our nickel/dime backs and whoever plays ILB alongside Manti. I am not sold on Carlo at all. I hate to be so negative... but he is a great run stuffer; cannot drop in coverage to save his life and takes a lonnnnnnnng time to go sideline-to-sideline. He just doesn't have the full skill set I want in that position.

Then again... a lot changes in a year. And I hope he comes out and surprises me.

I still think Kendall Moore will become the ILB along Manti. He is crazy athletic and has been receiving very good reviews in practice from this staff. I still think he will be a stud.

You agree with the staff, then.

There is so much information on here...it's a really cool thing to have. It goes on my refrigerator and will stay there through the season.

Oh No...I remember this fight on this board...And Phil Says...

"Mich St, with the playclock expired, ran a fake FG for a td in OT and pulled out a 3 pt win."

Loved it...

Great set of data...I heard him interviewed on Salt lake local radio...he puts alot of weight on close loses w/regard to how he thinks a team's record will look the following season...so long as most of the starters return...I'm thinking we had a few, so that may be why he has us at 12-0 in a couple of his calcs.

Steve Filer needs to get a shot at ILB........

If you still have the Blue & Gold game on your DVR, check out Hendrix's pinball TD run.

Filer bounced right off of him. That, in a nutshell, is why he hasn't (and probably won't) see the field.

I think it's a focus/ effort issue with him; for a kid with that much athleticism, if he had the drive to improve, you know he'd be on the 2-deep somewhere.

One play?!?!? How about the B&G game 2 years ago where he was all over the place making 11 tackles.

I like having him in there against the run. If the D-Line improves as much as we all hope it will, then his pass coverage skills won't be as critical because the QB will have VERY little time to get rid of the ball.

Ha. That's fair, though we know how reliable the B&G game is for projecting actual in-season performance.

It just struck me as emblematic of his career: super athletic rising senior lets the red-shirt sophomore bounce right off him for a TD.

No one wants to see Filer have a monster 2011 season more than I, but the odds seem heavily against it. What was it that Kelly said? We need Steve to start caring about football as much as his skateboard. I just don't think he cares.

If that was all he played then his redshirt could have been intact. You can still play a certain amount and maintain your redshirt status.
