You're missing out if you didn't listen to Bogtrotter. He stole the show.

No, he said 4. In context to the quote ("not a 4 year commitment"), it makes sense. I see the confusion though. It sounds like "40 year decision".

I must have misheard the young man then! My apologies.

Edit: Wait a tick, I listened again and he definitely says forty. :p

"...instead Notre Dame offers me a forty year plan..."

hot damn. I guess he did say 40. I listened to it several times (somebody even concurred earlier), but if you listen close, I think he did say 40. I know "40 year decision" is a coined ND term, but in his context, 4 would have actually made more sense.

Whatevs.

Rivals, Feb. 23
All-Pro Sports Best of the Midwest Combine Top Performers

1. ATH David Perkins, 6-2/205, South Bend (Ind.) Washington, 2012
Perkins interview/highlights
The breakdown: Physically, Perkins was the most jacked-up prospect at the event. The scary thing is, he ran the second-fastest 40-yard dash (4.44 seconds-hand). The South Bend product worked out at wide receiver and defensive end. He is not a natural pass catcher, but has the athleticism to make plays. He was most impressive in one-on-ones as a defensive end, showing off very good rush skills. Our bet is Perkins plays outside linebacker at the next level. Perkins can attend any camp in the country, and physically stand out.

Rivals, May 23
Columbus Nike Camp top performers

DAVID PERKINS, 6-2/209, ATH, SOUTH BEND (IND.) WASHINGTON
Offers: Currently has close to 15 offers

Strengths: Perkins is an incredibly gifted athlete, running in the low 4.5 range at 210 pounds. He lined up at defensive end on Saturday and, literally, no offensive lineman was even able to get a hand on him when he was coming off the edge. He also showed a huge competitive fire which is good to see in these sometimes sterile camp settings.

Weaknesses: What position will he play the next level? He is not a defensive end even though that seems to be where he would like to line up. Though he is a very good athlete he does not seem to be ideally suited for any particular spot.

Conclusion: Perkins is certainly fun to watch but the lack of a true position is worrisome. Some see him as a running back or wide receiver and one of those would probably be his best fit.

How do you improve stock when you're a four-star? Blow by everyone you go up against, that's how. Perkins is similar to Pipkins, in that, he likely won't gain any stars, but he should move up positionally and nationally. He's a special athlete. I still believe his ceiling is highest as a hybrid edge rusher, but there are a lot of schools who like him as a running back, a position he can also play at the BCS level.

lol Yea, not trying to bust your balls. Don't worry Wooly. You're still The Dude. :) He kinda reads at the desk (like with his face down to it) so it comes off a bit mumble-ish.

Those are some serious superlatives. I liked him from what I saw, but he looked like a good athlete with a tweener body. It sounds like he will be unstoppable off the edge in the cat position. In a couple of years quarterbacks aren't going to have any place to turn with all the absolutely sick pass rushers we are bringing in.

I love reading stuff like this. It's great when a kid has such a solid support group and such a bright future ahead of him. The parents of a lot of Irish recruits are aware of what ND can offer their children educationally, spiritually and athletically and are passing that wisdom down. People may say we are lowering our standards or selling our soul to win a NC again ie Aaron Lynch. But, I say, a kid like Aaron Lynch is motivated to do great things with a smart and loving mother guiding him. ND recruits like Aaron are not the basket weaving, free car driving, semi pro athletes that go to some other schools I'll leave unmentioned. They are kids that with the help of loved ones are realizing they have an opportunity to be GREAT at ND, in all aspects of life. Congratulations to David Perkins and his family!

“When I have the ball in my hands, I think I’m one of the hardest men in America to bring down,” Perkins told the South Bend Tribune.

Local product David Perkins commits to Irish | Inside the Irish

With Perkins, the Irish have clearly targeted an explosive, fast-twitch athlete, now the question becomes where does he play? If Notre Dame turned down linebacker Joe Bolden because he didn’t have the size the Irish wanted in an outside linebacker, they likely see something extraordinary in Perkins that let them take a chance on the similar-sized player.

Reminds me of a slower Adrian Peterson. I was trying to convince myself that he'd be a great running back, but I don't see the speed.

However, he will make a tremendous defender. If he plays that angry on offense, he will be a machine at linebacker.

He reminds me of Shembo; similar build, athleticism, and natural pass rushing ability.

I said the exact same thing when I heard he committed. Hopefully that's how he pans out, because Prince is a freak out there. I love watching him play (and he's just getting started).

i was a senior at mishawaka high school (i just graduated), i remember the game this year we played against washington, and this guy is legit, a man among boys, he is extremely hard to tackle, its like he wants someone to try to tackle him just so he can embarrass them, on the defensive said he is really good as well he will be a very good pass rusher, but i just liked the intesity he brought when he ran the football so i would rather have im at RB

His film is of him with a pulled groin and a big knee pad from an MCL strain. He is plenty fast.

I still think that where Perkins ends up is determined by what elite prospects we land. A couple of elite running backs and he's probably an OLB.
