Fair enough. Good luck to the young man. Our TE depth chart is fairly intimidating at this point.

Sorry i mean to say he should not waste his time. I know that its a free trip for him to watch football and thats the only reason he is coming

Exactly how do you know that he isn't interested and is only coming to watch a football game? Are you saying kids shouldn't take officials to ND unless they're 100% Irish? We're not going to get many recruits with that mentality.

Whether his interest is sincere or not, would we even change our stance on not taking a TE this year? I know we've been telling Brenemen the '13 recruit that we are ok passing this year because we want him.

There is a new article up on 247 which I can't access about Mcnamara visiting btw.

Arizona is off to a rocky start, and with their shaky line play, they probably won't be winning many games this year. McNamara could be having second thoughts.

He's arguably the top TE in this class. I'm not sure we could turn him down if he wants to verbal.

He is still very firm with AZ, was in attendence for the beatdown from Stanford and still walked away enjoying the visit. He just wants to make sure he is making the right decision.

We are still recruiting him so yes we would still accept his committment.

I think the only people with a "we're not taking a tight end this year" stance are posters on here. I don't think the coaches have that stance. If so they wouldn't have extended any offers to TEs. I assume they're ok with passing on a TE, but if McNamara or Kent wanted in they wouldn't be turned down. Same thing with QBs this year. Not a position of need this year but if Kiel or Winston had wanted in, they wouldn't have been turned down either.

There are always exceptions to the rule. ND did not need a TE this year but they did offer a handful of players they would make an exception for. McNamara and Taylro from Florida appearing to be the 2 who they were really interested in.

Mike Stoops is out as Arizona's head coach, a source told me.

McNamara is an Arizona verbal. He's arguably the top TE in this class. Do we take him if he wants to verbal?

Yes because there is no guarantee with someone like Brenneman. He's also ranked the #2 TE on Rivals, #3 on 247, #9 on ESPN and #18 on Scout... so that's an aggregate #8 TE including Scout, #4/5 excluding Scout. Simply put, you take a top 5 positional guy.

I think we would. Brenaman is next years big fish for us at TE, but he is fas from a lock. I don't think you can turn away a national top recruit at any position. Just my opinion.

Also, the Stoops news..... not a suprise. They are terrible.

I would say Yes but we really don't need another top TE

In large part, the super-effective Patriots offense is predicated on two TEs that cause matchup nightmares for the opposition. With the impending departure of Eifert, you have to think there is extreme value for getting Koyack + McNamara to be the replacements. If you pass on McNamara, then whiff on Brenneman and then Koyack gets hurt a great advantage turns into a nightmare.

Ugh. This caused me to look up Eifert's eligibility. Played a handful of trash minutes against Nevada in the first game of his freshman season, but otherwise sat for all of 2009. Thanks, Charlie.

So Eifert and Golic are gone after 2012. Leaving us with Welch, Koyack, and McNamara and/or whoever we get in 2013 (Breneman?) McNamara this year and another in 2013 would definitely be the safest way to manage our TE stable.

People continue to forget about Welch. Dude is legit.

I get what your going with and I agree. Just think people on this board overlook what we have in Welch.
