I'm not taking a shot at anyone on here, but the fact that this is a major story pisses me off to no end. So many economic, social, and foreign policy issues which have an actual bearing on our country, and the main stream media covers shock stories and this bull****. It making me mother****ing insane. INSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANE. Some Congressman's **** is the front ****ing page. It's disgraceful.

News is a business. Scandal sells. A congressman named Weiner sending pictures of his weiner to young women is a can't miss news story.

Don't be mad at the media; blame the consumers.

It's not supposed to be a business, but I'll concede the point. I know plenty of people who are upset with the direction of the MSM, but many Americans are guilty of shirking their civic duties as well. Ethics and morality can play a part in what you're giving the consumers.

On a slightly similar note, I assume you don't blame heroin dealers for filling a market niche?

At first I laughed at that and thought it was a pretty decent comeback...but then again, I don't think that scandal stories are literally killing and becoming physically/psychologically addictive...

I would argue that "the media" has never actually been the benevolent unbiased arbiter of important issues that you pine for; which is much less of an issue now that one can get "news" from literally thousands of sources.

No, I don't; though assigning "blame" for widespread social ills seems pretty silly to me. I'd instead decriminalize heroin and treat it as a health problem, in order to drastically decrease the demand for the product. 40 years and $1 trillion + later, prohibition has been an abject failure. But I digress.

Well I certainly agree with your solution to the problem. Absolutely how the issue should be handled. News is to inform, leave the bull**** to E.T. There is a problem with what they market themselves as (The slogans; "Asking the tough questions, most trusted name in news, etc.) and the actual product they present for mass consumption. They don't jive and hearing about Lindsey Lohan's arrest all day when a Medal of Honor recipient died the same day is bordering on criminal.

They produce an inferior product, so I shop elsewhere.

There are serious unbiased news organizations out there; they just aren't on American cable TV.

I'm talking about his comment that it is okay in regard to serving the market. If you want to be serious the mass media's lack of serious coverage and hard questions has led to a deterioration in America.

I would still have to say that he is right though. News has almost become a sort of "reality tv" only because that's what people want to watch. If people changed the channel every time the garbage came on, I think the news stations would get the hint. A guy being caught showing his "weiner" has also become a (sadly) big influence on voters.

A lot of it probably has to do with the "who I'd have a beer with" ideology that a majority of people use when voting. If someone isn't the best husband, people write them off even though they may be the best candidate.

I understand the sentiment being expressed here, but any gripe along the lines of "if only people were smarter/ kinder/ more generous, etc." is generally unproductive.

Most people like yellow news. They also prefer to get their "news" with whatever ideological bias they favor built-in. The answer to that problem is not to regulate the main stream media and hold them to some arbitrary standard of fairness and relevance, but to open the market to alternative news providers.

Delete me.

LOL. But you complete me, and heroin saved my life. It helped me escape my addiction to coca cola and sheep.

I'm considering other alternate medications.

What were we talking about? Oh yeah. Rachel McAdams. Hannah Storen.

WhiskeyJ, why is your pic, the doll of Manti, held up by a three pronged stick?

The designer of this otherwise epic Manti image chose an unfortunate place to position the adidas logo.

Or perhaps it's just his way of emphasizing Manti's Hawai'ian virility.

How about blaming this adolescent, lying sack of sh.t instead? I know the bar is set pretty low for politicians these days, but Weiner limboed right under it.

He's a pretty excitable guy. I don't think limbo is his game.

That's almost harsh.

He lied about sending a picture of his junk to a woman. I would have been more baffled had he responded, "Yes, that is definitely my erection."

He wasn't even good at lying about it. He pretty much told everyone it was him when he said it might be his.

The day after the latest apology, Weiner now admits to 3 online relationships since resigning from Congress.

His numbers in the NYC Mayor Poll has dropped but he's still running second.

Perhaps the yellow dog line should be changed to a yellow weiner.

Dude needs to stop sending pics of his junk to 22 year old girls online while his wife is pregnant. But hey NYC...you want it, you got it haha

The NY Post led a few days ago with the caption:

"Weiner won't pull out... of the NYC mayoral race."

Classic NY Post at it's best.

The late night comics will probably all donate to Weiner's campaign fund if he promises to plow on. He's ready material.

Letterman had a Top 10 last night for handles for Weiner to use other than Carlos Danger.

Exactly...

Between him and that CA mayor.....Sheesh.

And NY gets everything they deserve with this guy. So will rationalize that it doesn't affect his job, but if he's willing to lie to his wife and all the potential voters on THIS....then what makes you think he wouldn't lie about something else?

And his wife is a moron who also deserves everythign she gets. They probably sleep in seperated beds. It's a career thing to her.
