My hope is that the university has done the right thing. Should the findings place ND at fault, I certainly expect them to "man up."
Declan's family definitely deserves answers to the many questions swirling around this tragic event. They deserve acceptable resolution, "closure" in today's terms.
The Indiana branch of OSHA has already issued findings and levied a $77,500 fine. I assume that there are other continuing investigations.
I have mixed feelings about this. As a student at ND I would have jumped at the chance to tape the football team's practice. I would have bristled at any dicta that curtailed my "art," no matter the risk.
In retrospect, I realize that a measured curb to my youthful enthusiasm and (false) sense of invincibility would have been valuable and prudent.
In the perspective of wags, bloggers, haters, et al., this is far from over; regardless of the findings of the internal investigation. It's an INTERNAL investigation after all, and couldn't POSSIBLY be in the least bit objective.
