I think you gotta consider the new guy that Indiana has brought in, the old Oklahoma OC. I'm sure there was a connection while he was at Oklahoma and I'm sure he's taking a shot to see if he's got a remote chance to land the local product.

Agreed can't see him landing here and taking possible playing time from big brother...he'll go somewhere else much bigger and still probably compete for playing time right away.

Will be at Indiana's Spring Game this Saturday.

What is that ... Indiana's Spring Game .... is that something like a circus that happens during spring or what? Does IU even play D1 football? Come o nown, they're 1-8 in the "big" 10 the past 3 yrs. running! WTF?!?

It would not be out of the realm of possibility for him to choose IU, but I would be disappointed. I am a big fan of IU basketball, but have never given two thoughts about their football program. They are always at the bottom tier of the big ten season in and season out and I feel that Kiel has so many options out there that would be much better for him. I honestly don't know what our chances are to land him at ND because of our QB depth and of course the strong possibility that we could land Maulk. Lets face it, we are pretty well stocked with alot of talent at the QB position so having Kiel commit to us would be huge get but highly unlikely. With Kiel living so close to IU, I'm sure he is taking the coutesy visit on a weekend known for it's party atmosphere and concerts. Hope he has a good time, but I just don't see him signing with IU.

either way it's really starting to look like more and more that he is leaning away from ND.

It would be a shame if we didn't secure his committment.

If you build it, they will come...

I feel you there brother. I think he is awesome and would fit very nicely in our system, not to mention that he is an Indiana boy in our backyard. Only time will tell, so I will continue to cross my fingers and maybe we can get lucky. Anything is possible.

Yeah, I'm not so sure he was much of an ND fan.

That's like, 95% of all kids whose dads don't make sure they have allegiance- basic sociology.

Also, grand-dads and moms- just about any role model concering sports competition can ensure a child's allegiance and help to show them why sticking to your guns, and following your team and being faithful is important.

I think it even stems to relationships. Hell, it could be whats wrong with America.

I dunno.

I read the submission here as well.

I think it was in the Kiel/Mauk who has a bigger wiener thread.

He said that he grew up a Notre Dame fan along with his family, but as he got older, he became a fair weather fan.

I will look for the article, but that is pretty close to verbatim.

I'm sure this has been mentioned-but this really looks to be a case of him wanting to be an impact player right away. I'm sure he looks at what would be ahead of him at ND, plus a possible commit in the same class...add it all up and it doesn't look very appealing for a player who wanted to make a splash right away(just my opinion, haven't read anything to that nature).

BTW, Golson is little 5. Your unintended pun fits buddy. He's going to be legit in a few and a fierce battle will be brewing this weekend in IN.

Thanks for the clarification on the hip, hop, the hippity hop side of things.

Here's a question: how come no one on this site knows Gunner/his family and can give us the inside scoop? Seriously, why did no one think to befriend the Kiels at a young age and leverage those relationship for info? You're all SLACKERS!!! I hereby task Ironman and the Office Linebacker with digging up more info. Chop chop.

Also, Epitome is hereby tasked with using his oracle abilities to come make an obtuse and generalized prediction that will be "true" regardless of what actually happens.

That's funny, because it feels like most other fanbases (namely Michigan) think that we're leading for Kiel. I don't think that they have much basis for it other than what we already knew before and our built - in connections, but I really hope he doesn't hold out forever in his commitment; I think that wouldn't bode well for us getting him.

I think we has fans based in Indiana need to step up and go to a game of his this year. All decked out in ND gear and cheering like we're in South Bend. I plan on going to one of his games to see this guy and have a few other friends that are going as well. we will be sure to wear our ND stuff and would love to see more ND fans join us

Hope all is okay with the Kiel family. Columbus got some bad weather and a lot of it is flooded.

How are we gonna make up ground on this kid since normally we can do that on a visit but hasn't he visited a few times already?

That's not true. Maty Mauk has a commitable offer and can commit to ND today if he wanted.

So much as we know, dude. Who knows what's going on behind the scenes and what's really on the table... as a fan I'd like to know as much as possible, but I believe that there are certainly things that Kelly and co. don't want paraded around to the public. It wouldn't be all that surprising if there's an unspoken agreement between the staff and Mauk that they are waiting to hear from Kiel first.

Not saying that's true, but it wouldn't shock me. Elite universities such as Notre Dame are capable of doing these things, and the Irish look to be back near the top of the recruiting world with our recent gains.
