The problem is, nobody knows what the sanctions will be and what their numbers will really look like. They could be taking as few as 8, or as many as a full class. If they are taking 8, no way in heck do they bring in 3 receivers (which they have committed already), and they'll stop pursuing Payton as hard.

Has he looked anywhere else in the state of California? Would Notre Dame be his "fall back" school if the sanctions are upheld, or would it be Cal-Berkely or even Stanford?

He went to Cal's Junior Day and came away VERY impressed. He also visited Colorado recently.

Golden: The NCAA, going by their timeline, would be announcing this week (it's either the first week of their timeline or the last week...can't remember, but I think this would be the final week). But in their infinite wisdom - who the hell knows???

One of the guys at 4HL who really knows his stuff is saying both Payton and Armstead are really listening to ND. Not saying they will flip but it seems there is real interest from both parties

Was at USC's practice today, and will most likely be there for the spring game as well. I've said this from the beginning, unless SC stops recruiting him, I highly highly doubt he's coming to ND, despite what he says about visiting. He tells the USC reporters quite a different story than he tells the rest of the nation...

Said while he's really loves SC and is still committed to USC, he wants to see how they respond this year to the sanctions and he's being urged by everyone to check out his options just in case. So he's taking all 5 of his visits. He told the reporter he wasn't ready to name a top 5 (after USC), but then proceeded to say if the visits decision had to be today, he'd go to Arkansas (that's for sure), FL, Michigan, Cal, and Oklahoma. No mention of ND in the entire article.
Like I said, this kid ain't coming to ND, no matter what he tells ND reporters.
