Its good the Irish have a use for him rather than seeing him transfer. ND needed a little more size at WR anyway.

cool, converted qbs seem to do well at the receiver position.

his size alone will create some matchup problems with smaller dbs, glad to see he is willing to change positions and not head for the hills.

i would guess he wouldnt get serious pt until next year when floyd moves on, he could also potentially grow into a TE, there will probably be some games where its over by halftime that we'll see him in.

He doesn't have good speed, but if he has good hands and can jump who knows he might turn into a solid possession receiver. Weirder things have happened.

If he can throw the ball well that could potentially open up the offense a bit more.

Its possible that one reason why converted QBs do good at WR is because they know what it's like to throw to a receiver from the quarterback position. Therefore they have the advantage of knowing where to be on a scramble or just know how to run a route when their quarterback is under pressure.

Maybe a possession receiver?

He might be able to convert on short third down plays.

Sort reminds me of a less athletic Robbie Paris.

Gosh this is fantastic news! :) We got a 6'4 WR! Sweet, I was wondering what was going to happen to this guy. When he came in I was excited and didn't know where he'd end up.
This is great

I think this is a great move. He probably runs a 4.6, which is fine with his size. In a couple of years I think he is going to be a big part of this offense.

I'm glad he's moved to WR. We're getting a little thin at the WR position, especially if Riddick goes back to RB

We're still loaded at the receiver positions, folks. [EX. TJ+Riddick+ Floyd; Goodman+Toma+DSmith; Collingsworth+Daniels+Atkinson; and now Massa, who is big, athletic{BBall star}, and fairly fast---and a field-awareness mind]. I believe that Kelly's move of Massa grows from several motivations: a]. we can use another WR due to only getting two in the current year's recruits; b]. Massa is an athlete, and why give away an athlete??; c].I think Kelly probably likes Massa--recruited him for Cincy. And of course,d]. Coach sees that he's loaded with QB choices without Big Luke.] If Massa can catch, I'll bet he becomes a very good WR. But can he at the college level??--that we'll have to see.

I'm with you Sherm...but his move wasn't as urgent as Bennett Jackson's, so I look upon it as more flexible. But OK --either way we're still loaded. And you can toss Walker in there if you want to make a full set.

No, he runs like a 4.8... maybe a 4.7 if he's gotten considerably faster. There is an OK chance he ends up being an OK possession receiver if he has great hands, route running, leaping ability, etc. There is way too much that we simply don't know about him.

Maybe, but evidently the coaching staff does!

I think this will work out great for him. He's going to see the field this year, mark my words.

i'm glad we found a position for him, maybe he can out play some of these smaller wide outs we have, and it would be nice to see some Size in the endzone to go along with Floyd.

whenever we get to crowded or a quaterback doesn't turn out like we would have hoped, we always seem to find a position for them.
Carlyle Holiday 6'3 221 to WR, Arnaz Battle 6'1 215 to WR, Gary Godsey 6'7 240 to TE, Jared Clark 6'4 244 to TE, Tom Zbikowski 6'0 207 (HS-QB/DB) stayed at DB in college, Ambrose Wooden 5'11 197 (HS-QB/DB) stayed at DB in college.

so Massa could be the next one to have some success, as long as he can beat out some of are faster receiver's, and if not he can always bulk up a bit and play TE.

You guys need to get off of this "speed" thing. On 3rd and 7, I don't care how fast the guy is, as long as he can get open 8 yards downfield and catch the ball.

To much trick-screwry. No triple passes.

In all honesty, when he committed, I saw him being a back-up... and perhaps a good one. He may have had a shot to start had he worked his nuts off three or four years. This gives him a great shot to play... especially in a spread O.

6'4 size... work on routes and he can be very good in short yardage and near the endzone.

He's moved to the one position with more of a log jam than QB! It will be just as hard to get time at WR. I appreciate his team mentality, but I don't know how well it will work out for him. Best of luck to the young man.

^this! Look how effective TE are in these type of situations. height is king. Hes got better speed than a TE and hes got the height and size to get open. me likes him mucho!

Totally agree...speed helps cover up alot of imperfections at this level...no doubt
but 4.6 is still respectable with that size

...So many other things go into gettting open...I'd be interested if anyone had times on him for cones or shuttle...that to me is more of a sign for a receiver's effectiveness in getting open...

1) I'd Look at Concentration/hands...again, his having been a QB I'd have to say its there...but we'll see
2) I'd look at size so he can get off the line...at 6'4" he'll win all those battles
3) I'd look at Timing and precision...he was a QB so he has the precision "gene", and timing (the internal clock) I presume is there...but we'll see...
4) I'd look at his degree of shiftiness...changing speed/direction without alot of visible "tells" and extra movements...using your eyes and your hips to sell one route, and then a smooth transition into another...not sure how shifty he is, guess we'll see
5) then I'd look at straight line speed

I'd give him a 50% chance of being a productive serviceable reciver here based on his size and the traits/attributes a QB brings...50% is all anyone could ask....an even shot

Cool Move...I'm stoked for him!

I like this move, he could get some reps but i dont see him playing much next season. Allow him to really learn what it takes to be a wideout and then possibly he could be a big help after floyd is gone....stranger things have happened

Anybody remember Jerry Rice's forty time? About 4.6 maybe.
