If any of our QB's were to transfer I thought Nate wouldn't, but it's understandable why. No matter what I see Nate always being Irish-he transferred once and came back (and of course his last name). I thought that he would stay to get the ND degree and Massa would transfer, but either way, whatever happens, best of luck to Nate and his family.

At least the speculation will be over quickly, as we should know by tomorrow what his plans are per the transfer rules outlined in the SBT article.

This move would definitely be beneficial to both Nate Montana and Notre Dame...

I do also;
However, most Div 1 players have had ten or fifteen years of playing football, not one or two. You can't just decide to play in your junior year of HS and expect to be better than some one who has lived and breathed FB for 15 years, attended every FB camp since seventh grade, and played and starred in HS for three or four years.
I wish Nate well and hope he can succeed in what ever he hopes for; but he must be realistic.

This not really that bad of news if he does decide to leave. He was never going to get time here.

Competitive kid, but I can understand his situation. There is zero chance he'll be one of the top four quarterbacks. I love his spirit, but it's just not in the cards for him at ND. I feel bad for saying this, it makes me feel like an SEC fan, but it is beneficial to both parties if he moved on. There is a log jam at QB and we need to drop numbers, scholarship wise.

I think he really deserves the scholarship, but it's not doing the team a great service to keep him when there is zero chance of him seeing the field now, with at least four quarterbacks ahead of him. This is a great move for him if he wants genuine competition, and the ND quarterback situation has one aspect resolved. If he stays, I won't fault him for keeping his scholarship and getting a degree, he's earned it.

Kinda miffed at the timing, maybe it was Kelly's comment about 4 QBs and he said screw it if I'm not going to get reps then I want to go somewhere where I can. But yeah... baring that scenario, why wait until after NSD? I wonder if there are any additional 5th year guys we could look at bringing back now?

I like the kid. I'm glad he's got a shot to play... he just wasn't going to get a shot here with so many Quarterbacks.

I'm trying to forget his lob out of the back of the endzone... still... I hate that coaching decision SOOOO much.

Coincidence that Massa to WR and Montana to MT both occur now?

Kelly or their position coach had conversation with the two of them prior to the QBs taking snaps comment. Kelly could not comment on Golson until LOI's were in on NSD. This was Kelly's schedule, not Massa nor Montana's.

I know a lot of people hate to lose a family member, especially a legacy. However, this really is a win-win. Best of luck to Nate!

If I get a shot a seeing him play...I'll go. Kid has stones the size of grapefruits...I love that he tried it at ND after only a couple years of playing the position...

Thanks for everything Nate...time to go light it up now...I'll be cheering for you.
