ND 1 UF 0

ND 39 UF 28

Only game played was the 1992 Sugar Bowl AKA The Cheerios Bowl. UF scored a late 2nd Q TD to take a 16-7 halftime lead. ND was held to about 30 yds rushing in the first half. The lead changed hands twice in the 3rd Q. ND broke the game open in the 4th Q behind Bettis's 3 TDs. Bettis had two big 40 yd runs for scores and ended up with a 150 yds for the day. Bettis, Culver, and Brooks put up about 250 second half rushing yds.

Loved that game. It was my freshman year at Notre Dame (lived in same dorm as Bettis) and it was great seeing him destroy Florida like that especially after they said we did not deserve a bowl.
P.S. Bettis was not only a great player but one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.

EDIT I love those old videos where ND runs the option. Its a marvelous thing to behold.

Notre Dame has more Champions than anyone, bascially invented forward pass style offense, has had multiple moveis made about them and has won more Academic National Titles than Florida has had Academic All Americans....

but at least they have Gatorade........

Actually, there's been an argument here in Tallahassee that UF stole the formula from FSU, called it Gatorade, and the rest is history.

Remember that game like it was yesterday, and it is still one of my favorites ever.

Yes, I believe ND pre game had the regular road jerserys, after warmups and the team returned to the lockerroom, Lou Holtz broke out the green road jerseys! The inside color of the numbers was green. Then Jerome Bettis went out and proceded to run buck wild on the gators. (leading up to the game, Spurrier was complaining that the Gators didnt get a high enough ranked opponent with #18 ND)

The UF receiver hot-dogging that first TD (think it was Willie Jackson), and the Gators acting like the rest of the night would be a breeze made Bettis and Co.'s running explosion even more awesome.

*Spurrier was outspoken about wanting someone "better" to play against. Crazy how the SEC used to be known as the "no defense" conference, and now their fans act like they are, and always have been, the gold standard on that side of the ball.

Well I guess that leaves UF with taking credit for Florida's love bugs.....brilliant creation that was.....what a screw up, I curse the Gators when the bugs show up twice a year!

The only thing FSU made famous is "Wide Right!"

I think this has been discussed already, but it has been a while ago. Apparently a primer undercoat is being applied to the helmets now to prevent the chipping that often occurred. I personally loved the look of a battle scarred golden helmet but I guess the powers that be did not.

Love your avatar btw.

????This guy at work thinks Florida started football.

UF was created in 1906 as the "University of the State of Florida" (USF) and started playing football that year. In their 6th season they went undefeated at 5-0-1. They haven't had an undefeated season since. They have had 4 winless seasons the most recent being 1979 when they went 0-10-1.

Program had a good run in the 60's (Gatorade Secret Weapon) under Ray Graves but never won an SEC Championship. His key player was a QB named Spurrier who won a Heisman.

The Gators hired Tennessee's HC Doug Dickey for the 70's. He was a UF (USF) alumnus and had won 2 SEC Titles at UT. Didn't win any at UF (USF).

Charley Pell can next. He went 0-10-1 his first season. He won 8 games the next season for a +18 turnaround. Went 33-15 after the winless year but was fired in mid-season in 1984 by the UF (USF) President when the NCAA hit them with over 100 MAJOR Infractions. Galen Hall, the OC was appointed HC and finished the '84 season winning UF (USF)'s first SEC Title. *** The SEC Presidents (for a brief time when they had balls) stripped them of the SEC Title after the season. In '85 they had the best record in the SEC but the NCAA probation made them ineligible for the title and for a bowl bid. Hall went 40-18 but was sacked when the Gators were hit with NCAA Sanctions under Hall.

Gary Darnell coached one year.

Gator Football actually arrived in 1990 when Steve Spurrier took over. In the past 20 years (which is the only period Gator fans recognize) UF(USF) has the best record in Div 1, .785 210 wins, 57 losses, 1 tie. (ND by comparison has the 24th best record winning 48 less games.)

Spurrier got burned out recruiting and moved to the NFL where he quickly was sent back.

Zook came in next, won a bunch of games but loss to teams Spurrier never lost to (like the State of Mississippi). Zook got involved with campus controversy and was sent packing.

Urban came in and brought the program back to Spurrier's winning percentage numbers, .800+.

In the last 20 years the Gators won 1 NC. Spurrier had one and Urbie 2.

In the same period they won 8 SEC Championships. Spurrier had 6 in 12 years. Urbie 2 in 6.

They've won 10 SEC East Title ( I know who cares? Actually the guys that come in second in the conference so they can claim some bragging rights). Of those Spurrier won 7 and Urbie 3.

On the third day, Diaco made football.

On the fourth day, Diaco made Rockne (imaculate conception of course)
