As I heard others say, good thing he can't bring Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, and Ed Reed.

haha touche I'm just hoping he can't recruit the younger versions of those guys with some fast talk. Michigan was in danger of losing their two best DB recruits and now it looks like they will hold on to them.

Good news for us in my opinion.

Anybody remember the "Mattison Dance" when he was at ND? ND's DLs tied up the OLs at the LOS with the intent that the LBs made the tackles. (Similar to the 3-4 or ND defense during the 769's when Bolcar and others set ND records for Tackles at LB.) Only problem was the RBs had lanes, not creases to run through and they ran ragged through our defense. It made the Prevent Defense look like a shutdown defense by comparison.

Years ago when Mattison came to ND from Michigan, a UM grad I used to discuss football with civility, emailed me. "Don't get too excited. I think most of his recent success has been do to a young defensive assistant coach. Mattison may help your recruiting but I don't think he's your answer to your defensive shortcoming. He's no Barry Alvarez. Your going to be disappointed"

He wasn't. I was.

Seems odd he would leave the NFL for the same role at Michigan. Wonder if he was on his way out anyway? Anybody have any insight?

You are hitting on a very good point. This the ravens defense was overall average. I know some of there stats will show different. In the first half they played good the second half looked My redskins defense was out there.

I for one am hoping Mattison turns that awful defense around. I ****ing hate Michigan more than any other school we play but I would rather them be really good when we stomp a mudhole in their asses than be this mediocre, former shell of themselves that they've become.

I has wishing that you would put your Riddickulous jinx on them by saying, "They are going ot own us for the next 40 years." Can you use your powers on other teams or does it only work on our guys?

I'm 100% certain that Mattison and Michigan will dominate us for the next 20 years. Next year will be a bloodbath, an embarassment, as we get stomped in the Big House.

Just makes me think of Monte Kiffin at USC.

Mattison is getting up there in age, that's a big knock as far as I'm concerned. You don't usually see older guys like this spend so much time in college then go to the NFL and then come back and have success in the college game again.

He might salvage some recruits this year and be able to recruit well, but a young and upcoming DC would be a lot more scary in my opinion.

Someone like...you know...Bob Diaco.

I was at ND while Mattison was there as an assistant. He was an energetic, high octane sort of guy. I didn't know what to think when he was hired away by Michigan. As one of my friends pointed out, though, look at Monte Kiffin and the success he has had at USC. Generational gaps sometimes are important to keep in mind.

VERY happy with this hire and VERY happy with Brady Hoke (so far).

He knows Michigan and says all the right things. I don't know if any of you have seen his presser when he accepted the job, but the whole preaching toughness and saying that game against that school in ohio was THE MOST IMPORTANT GAME ON THAT SCHEDULE had me pumped.

Now I wanna see how this transpires on the field. Spring game should be a start.

You won't know for 5 years whether Hoke was a good hire. Charlie came in and went to two BCS games with a team that was predicted to start 0-6 in 2006 and then recruited world beater classes. Then the wheels fell off the bus.

I don't think Hoke & Mattison can work miracles with your defense overnight. The most telling sign will be the next two recruiting classes because right now it is a lack of depth that is killing you.

Well after App State there was no where to go, but up.
Hopefully blue can get back to being elite again it's more fun to beat them then.

As of late you've had a hard time beating us at all eh? ;)

Toledo was worse though. Much. That was a garbage Toledo team and App was like the two time FCS national champ or something? Still not an excuse but give App credit they were a good team who their national title that year too.

Both programs are headed in the right direction imo. My dream someday is to see Michigan-ND, #1v#2 rematch in the BCS title game.

Weird scenario for me, My brother in law that I speak of a lot here is both a Michigan and Ravens fan and he is not happy with this hire at ALL!!!!! He continuously says without these three ball players, the Raven's defense is the worst in the NFL and is highly comparable to that of Arizona Cardinals.

He also says that the age of Mattison is highly upsetting the Michigan base here. His cousin that plays for Michigan (Junior) says they were hoping for Hopson to get the position.

Not really. Some are concerned about the age part but it's not really upsetting anyone around me. And I LIVE in Ann Arbor. People seem to think it was a great hire. I hope he speaking for himself...

Hoke (and Mattison) should bring some stability to the program that wasn't there under Rodriguez. As for the presser, aren't those items standard fodder. Was he supposed to preach turn the other cheek and BEAT THE CUPCAKES?

Dude, I'm looking at your signature, and it's just one of those "take that!" moments that compels me to retort......

So I have two words for you, in retort............ Reggie...................... Ho! Now take that with ya!

(You're alright....................... for a Michigan fan)
