At this time of year, there is no definite number at ND. Probably never will be with the way 5th have to apply to a Academic Committee for approval. At Bama and most elsewhere the HC tells the school.
Add to that academic casualties, Res Life uncertainies, rehabbing players that don't rehab as expected. Then while the fans are jumping with joy over the blue chips newcomers some of the existing players may look at the depth chart and wonder if the grass is greener elsewhere ala Shaq Evans.
Last Spring I said the number be around 22 and could go as high as 25 for the right people. I got thrashed by those saying 16. No way ND would take in the 20's. What are we at now 21 with a couple of lively prospects left.
ND is going to take the 20th punter over Huggins ... but there is that offer to a LS. During the Holtz years (long after Cerrato was gone), ND turned away a kid named Jevon Kearse because OL Coach Joe Moore was adamant about a can't miss OL. ND took the OL who was a career backup while Kearse with his 3.5 GPA and National Honor Society creditentials tore up the SEC at UF.
