With Floyd, Riddick and obviously Rudolph all out do you envision a more ground-heavy game from Kelly? With Kelly's spread I'd think I'd at least try to attack the relatively young LB corps before going after a much more experienced secondary.

i think if kelly is prepared to sit floyd and only use him in case of an emergency that he is pretty confident that ND can win this game quite easily.

i always expect to see more running but it never really comes to fruition but this week kelly may be depending on AA, cierre and even crist to carry the rushing load, and one of the recievers will emerge as a playmaker, TJ has already shown he can make big plays but i think Goody or kamara show their stuff a bit more.

overall too many weapons for navy to handle, i don't care about the last 3 years, ND will not lose this saturday!

I think we will see a heavy emphasis on the run this weekend but you will also see a nice dosage of pass to guys like Kamara, TJ, Eifert, Goodman and maybe even Toma. This game is a great one for some players who haven't had a chance for much play time to step up their game in the absence of some of the starters. I think most of the game will be smashmouth football and trying to control the line of scrimmage through the running game though.

I don't think that Kelly is considering sitting Floyd because he thinks this is an easy win. The Floyd situation is surely due to the fact that head coaches, unlike fans, have to take a serious look at the big picture. The last thing that he wants to do is create another Rudolph situation, and compromise both the rest of the season and Floyd's career for the chance at a single win. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------That said, I believe that Eifert, Ragone, Goodman, and even Kamara and Toma are pretty good second teamers and would give almost any defense some problems. And TJ is still there. "Secretly" Kelly moved Daniel Smith up to the active playing roster [and he has been on record as saying in August how he has surprised him at how he uses his big body at wide-out.] I also would not be surprised to see our other secret weapon, Bennett Jackson, stretch the field [maybe even Collingsworth]---Kelly seems to think that what's holding Bennett back is his inexperience with complex offenses---maybe a few simple package plays. So, our spread will hardly have to shut down despite this diabolical run of critical injuries [I mean really!! Other than Crist, could anyone have named four guys we wouldn't want hurt?? I am including Allen]. Why we have all these "excess effort" injuries is a topic for another conversation.

Starting WR will likely be Goodman, Kamara, and TJ in the slot

where did this information come from?

In his press conference today Coach Kelly stated that Dever would be back, and at RT splitting reps with Romine, that would allow Martin to move back to LT with Nuss backing him up.

Riddick is definitely out.

Floyd is game day.

And the receiver corps, based upon Floyd being a no go, is correct.

I think the game plane obviously needs to be run, run, run, run + play action deep ball. That's like a guaranteed TD if Floyd is playing.

this game always scares me especially after last year. I can see this going the same way as last year due to our inconsistancy on both sides of the ball

Disagree.

i agree with your disagree. this is a brian kelly coached football team, not charlie weis. we will be prepared to play this game and we will win handily, period. if i'm wrong then i am going to lose a ton of vbucks!

I just hope he doesn't wait till the 2nd half to run like last game. We are pretty deep
when it comes to recieving, so I don't think we'll be hurting there & after Wood's performance last week I see at least 150+ running yards in this game.

All right! what we need is a little positive attitude adjustment. Yes things are tough and our backs are to the wall (somewhat), but we are not the first to face these odds! No, and here is a quote from one of the greatest, who faced the bleakest of odds, much bleaker than our own, er, bleakness:

D-Day: War's over, man. Wormer dropped the big one.
Bluto: Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Otter: Germans?
Boon: Forget it, he's rolling.
Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...
[thinks hard]
Bluto: the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!
[runs out, alone; then returns]
Bluto: What the **** happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? This could be the greatest night of our lives, but you're gonna let it be the worst. "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my *** from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer...
Otter: Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.
Bluto: We're just the guys to do it.
D-Day: Let's do it.
Bluto: *Let's do it*!

(Thought I was going a different way with this didn’t you.)

first half is crucial. if we go down 2 scores at half like we did last year it spells trouble. navy will wear people down and milk clock. mistake free football

You are right. We must come out guns blazing and take the lead immediately. We need to play mistake free with no turnovers. I'm hoping for a strong dominating performance.

Missouri practiced it for a month before the bowl to no avail. A practice squad simply can't replicate it at the same speed. Obviously it helps, but Saturday will tell.

Anchorman: no sense laying one guy's s**t on us here at IE. We are a heterogeneous lot, some of whom dislike the USN football team and some of whom just look at them as another rival to beat. Most of the people here have expressed respect for the Academy and what the fighters it produces stand for, as we at ND are patriotic as well. I'm not sure what you were trying to accomplish with this post, but it doesn't deflect me one bit. Go Irish!! Beat the crap out of the Navy football team!! [And without deliberately trying to injure any of them].

I never said I thought this was a widely held view or in any way reflected on your program or its fanbase, or even that its a wrong view. Its a guy's opinion that gave a different view on the game. I thought it was a good read, and to be honest he brought some interesting points. Its the ND/Navy Game Thread, so probably where such a link belongs. No more, no less. Lets not get our knickers in a twist and look for things to take offense to.

Anchorman: I wasn't born yesterday. Notre Dame's "my house". Don't expect to post something that puts us in a bad light and not get a retort---your knickers are a bit twisted yourself so back at you. ND and Navy will settle anything of any importance [if there really IS any importance] on the playing field in an hour. Wish you well, win or lose. I plan on being a "good winner"; trust you will be too, should that unlikely event occur.
