why is flying to NY to see ND at Navy instead of just going to south bend for a home game? Schedule problems?

Couldn't find a convenient flight.

Parents have to pay for it on their own dime

The old man can't be hurting for money...no way
He probably has tons of endorsements still...let alone he seems like an intelligent enough guy to not have squandered his league money

I deleted it because I thought this was the Ishaq thread. He's no longer coming this weekend, but his dad seemed really high on the school

Wait... so you're saying there's a chance?

Dumb and Dumber reference, not the old recruit who took too long to commit to a school.

Barry Sanders Jr. lands spotlight with highlights, hairstyle, recruiting
By Cameron Smith
Barry Sanders Jr. was destined to be a great high school running back. One need look no further than his name to know running a football is practically in his blood.

The son of one of the NFL's most electric performers is making headlines of his own across Oklahoma, using some of his father's elusiveness and impressive speed to torch opposing defenses. Through his Heritage Hall (Okla.) High School Chargers' 5-0 start, Sanders has rushed for 970 yards and 14 touchdowns. A huge chunk of those stats came in a monstrous performance against Tulsa NOAH on Friday night, when he scored five touchdowns and ran for 313 yards on 13 carries. At one point he scored three touchdowns in the span of only four runs. His highlight reel runs -- like this one -- have gained plenty of notoriety, which has put the spotlight on the junior running back's eventual collegiate choice.

Now Sanders Jr. may be getting a little bit closer to a decision. The son of the Oklahoma State great reportedly is focusing on his father's alma mater, Alabama, UCLA and Florida State. Since his impressive sophomore season, the back has received scholarship offers from Alabama, Arizona, Auburn, Mississippi, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Tulsa and UCLA. He's received personal calls from Nick Saban and was reportedly offered his scholarship to UCLA by Bruins coach Rick Neuheisel on Saturday.

Still, the mercurial runner is making it clear that he isn't shutting any doors yet. He attended the annual Red River Rivalry game between Texas and Oklahoma on Saturday and was promptly spied sporting a Longhorns hat.

When asked about his attire by Orangebloods.com, Sanders simply said that it was hot and he needed a hat ... but quickly added that he's a fan of the Texas program and is hoping to hear from Mack Brown and his coaching staff.

"Mack Brown, I think he's a great coach. I've heard some good things about university, heard some good things about Austin," Sanders said. "I know Malcolm Brown. I got a chance to spend some time with him this summer. He committed to Texas. I'll be seeing him at the Army Bowl. I'll be down there for the combine in January. I'll get to talk to him about it a little bit, get the pros and cons. Texas is somebody that I've been telling people for a long time that I have some interest. We'll see if they look at me." [...]

"I'm keeping it all out there. I think the big question is if I want to stay home or if I want to leave state. That's something I'm really going have to think about and go from there."

The younger Sanders is also proving to be a bit more adventurous with his fashion than his father was. Sanders Jr. filmed one interview sporting an impressive mohawk, though he made it clear in his Orangebloods interview that he was no prima donna; when asked what he'd like to improve most, Sanders quickly focused on his blocking technique.

[Related: Illinois player has 7-TD, 500-yard game]

"I wouldn't say my blocking is a weakness," Sanders told Orangebloods.com "But that's something I'd like to work on to perfect it, blocking and catching out of the backfield."

If he gets that down, Sanders Jr. might even reach the legendary heights of his father (speaking figuratively, of course). Given what he's shown so far, it's impossible to count anything out ... except a defensive back trying to chase him down on a breakaway with the end zone in sight. That's been made clear with runs like the one you see below.

This was posted on Fox sports web site regarding Barry Sanders, Jr. visiting Alabama.
"Things went very well," said Barry Sanders, Jr.. "I really enjoyed myself. It was my first visit to Alabama. The stadium can definitely compare to NFL stadiums. I really like the set up.

"I got a chance to tour the facilities after the game. The facilities are pretty new. I saw the championship trophy and Ingram's Heisman trophy. I saw the Hall of Fame area which was really cool. I saw the training room and weight room. Everything was really nice."
"Coach Saban told me they are going to need some running backs. He said that he would love to have me down there. I like coach Saban. He is very business-like. He likes to get the job done. It doesn't have to be pretty, but as long as you come out on top that is what matters."

You know this? He's committed? I didn't think he was. Your GUESS is no more right then mine. I know we've never seen a kid go somewhere besides were his dad played. That never happens.

Texas has not offered and Barry Jr spent an entire article talking about the Longhorns.

Hopefully Barry Saunders Jr will pull a Nick Montana and try to create his own legacy, instead of following his father's footsteps.

Not that there's anything wrong with OKSt. I'm just being selfish, because I honestly think Jr, could be as good or maybe even better than Senior.... Kinda like Griffey Jr.... But we'll see.

Considering his dad is flat-out the greatest running back of all time, I'd say that makes him a top-priority from a recruiting standpoint.

Except he has mentioned several times of OSU and has an offer. My guess is better than your guess because I have a basis for the guess.

Barry Sanders Jr. Narrows List of Possible Schools to Four -- NCAAFB FanHouse

This article from the 3rd of October mentions four schools: Oklahoma State, Alabama, Florida State and UCLA. There is no mention of Texas.

Im not asking you or Texas fans to agree with me. That's why I posted that it was out of left field. He has legit interest in Texas and WHEN Texas offers, they will make his top 5. Texas fans (like all other collegiate fans) jumped to conclusion because they didntsee Texas in his inital top 4. Theres a long way to go andthings change based on visits and offers..... bro!

You're right, that is out of left field considering the articles point to you being wrong. The only thing going on for your guess is an article where he rambles on about UT (I didn't find it, but I'll take your word for it) and that he wore a UT hat at the UT-OU game. Sure, maybe he does pick Texas, but what I have read suggests otherwise. I will make a guess out of left field as well and guess he gets the offer on junior day, as that's when the majority of prospects commit.

The majority of 4* and 5* (which Barry Sanders Jr will be) recruits commit on junior day? I dont think thats accurate but maybe you can fnd an article that points in the other direction. That's when most are offered but not when most commit. You basing your opinion on articles you've read this far away from his national signing day, points to the fact that you obviously dont follow recruiting to closely. Articles written right now mean nothing.

Actually, you're way off base on this one. A majority of TX commits DO commit on their junior days. They have 2 of them, and Mack Brown let's it be known that spots will fill up fast and he won't wait on most guys. The majority of their recruiting is done after their junior days. I believe they had 19 verbals this year after their jr days, or something close to that. They'll wait for a 5 star that they really want, but believe me, IrishFL is dead on when he states that TX fills up fast and early. No other school is like that.

I understand that Texas class fills up fast. But like any other school in the country, like you said, will wait for a 5* player. Mack Brown and staff would hold a spot for a big name and big talent like Barry Sanders Jr.

It's not an arguement. I was jus putting out a gut feeling and until NSD of next year, nobodys guess means anything. Recruiting is a rollercoaster ride until NSD.

There is no way this kid ends up at any program that does not have a HUGE emphasis on the running game. The spread has an emphasis, but its more about setting up the pass than ground and punding you to death. That is why Alabama has seemingly came out of nowhere. They have a Heisman winning runningback who isnt even the best RB on the TEAM!!! Thats a focus on the running game!

Don't get me wrong, I would absolutely LOVE to have this kid at ND, but its not happening in any way shape or form.

I can see why Texas would be a big option for him too. They clearly try to run the ball down people's throat.

IMO his top 3 are gonna end up being Alabama, Oklahoma State, and a tossup between UCLA\Texas(if they offer of course).

I know it's early but I don't see us having any chance at all with this kid. Too bad he won't be making the Navy game.

YouTube - The Barry Sanders Jr 2010

This video says it all....

He's only had two years of high school football and he is already looking like he's ready for College football...

Barry Saunders Jr might pull a Ken Griffey Jr by actually surpassing his dad's awesomeness.

I've seen Barry Sanders play. I don't think there is anyone who can surpass him. If his son is half the RB he was then he will still be a great talent, and one who I'd be happy to see in Blue & Gold.
