BGIF is in The House. ... The past two weeks I've been in the Land of Guinness and I have a Certificate as a Master Pint Pourer to prove it. I can now draw a shamrock in foam right from the tap.

Can I come to your place to watch a game or two? I spent three weeks in The Emerald Isle in October of 1989. Arrived early on a Sunday morning, rented a car, bounced off a few 2 foot granite curbs on my way to a B&B in Limerick and then had lunch at a local pub where I was introduced to Smithwicks (for those who don't know, it's pronounced Smit-icks, with a lilt – the "h" and "w" are silent) and was blown away by the sight of an elderly gentleman who could have been my Irish grandfather's twin. Same style coat, same white shirt, same glasses and same 3 day stubble. I was home!
Driving on the left wasn't nearly the problem that shifting a manual transmission with my left hand was. That and reflexively looking up and to the right to check the rear view mirror ... and smashing the bill of my cap into the window. Roundabouts got more than adrenaline pumping. My sweat glands kicked into overdrive.
I was there a week before I ordered my first Guinness – it was only available in bottles, without the "widget," in the states then and I found it heavy and bitter. I ordered a half pint to be on the safe side. It came with a shamrock imprinted in the head which was still there after 5 minutes. After one sip I called the waiter over and ordered a full pint "to help me half pint out." 'Twas nectar and mother's milk sharing a glass!
The first night there I wasn't able to sleep in spite of the jet lag. I sat in the common room watching TV by myself when much to my delight (at 2 in the morning) I happened upon a sports channel that was broadcasting the ND-USC game live! The Irish won. It was difficult to keep my mouth shut but I didn't want to wake anyone.
Welcome home, BGIF. Sounds like a good trip. Mrs. BGIF is a keeper. I'm envious. Keep it all balanced.

I thought I'd bring this thread back since I haven't seen BGIF in a while.

I heard he quit. Sucks. We gotta take some things in life with a grain of salt...

It may have just been a "break" hopefully, but it's been over a month. Mods have tough jobs. He's been a member for over 5 years. His knowledge and resourceful abilities are second to none.

That being said, time can heal all wounds.

In my opinion, the Irish lost to Michigan.

Then **** went to hell. Quick-like. Multiple bannings, strangulations, and anger binges.

That pretty much sums it up actually. We lost 2 great posters that day; one is back, and here's to seeing BGIF come back as soon as he feels up to it. The man is an encyclopedia and was a true asset to this site. The mods and I were just talking about this the other day. The sooner he comes back the better...

Wow, I didn't even realize he's been gone for that long....

That was a sad day. A lot of people lost there cool over one close loss. People were acting like irrational children.

Glad to see the site is stabilizing somewhat... Hopefully BGIF realizes that the worse is over and people like NDOM are being as ridiculous.

We were all hoping to be #3's that day in September. That last DR drive shocked us back to #1's...

Bad day.

BGIF has taken a vow of silence and is currently in Asia. He is crossing the land and going wherever God takes, as he helps the lil people who crosses his path on his journey. He wont be back until he is given a sign that his job is done
