Looks like Ragone and Eifert will be forced to pick it up. This is devastating...hopefully he returns stronger and better next year. Let's wish him a speedy and full recovery.

I am willing to be this means more four wide receiver sets, with Eifert still ailing and Ragone just now getting more reps. Let's see what kind of receiver depth we really have.

I have got to believe that there is a silver lining here somewhere, but man this is just a shame. This is the best tight end in the country and now he has to deal with this. I'm concerned for long term and next year. I wonder how much stress the 95 yarder put on that hammy. Prayers for the best tight end since Ken McAfee and maybe the best ever at Notre Dame. Man o man has this position had some bad luck.

We have a freshman tight end that nobody talks about, Alex Welsh, went to Rudy's hs. St. X, who is really special. Wonder if they will keep him on track for a red shirt?

The tendons on his hamstring require surgery

I hope this means he is being taken care of well, and getting just what he needs for a full recovery. I mean, I felt terrible for Kyle because of the dastardly lingering nature of his injury. (I guess that is why the name has become synonymous with incapacitating injury.) I hope his recovery is speedy and complete, and his return is to the Irish next season! Not that it really matters; can he get a medical for this year?

Should this thread be combinded with the other, "Rudy's

Kelly has all but stated that Welch will stay on the scout squad. He said that Eifert and Ragone will split reps and Golic will be there in reserve.

Thanks man! NOW THAT SPEAKS TO THE DEPTH OF ND TE's!

Tough news, but getting him healthy and preventing further damage is needed. I have faith in Eifert, Ragone and our WR's that they will step up their game.

Yeah. My thought exactly when I first read the title of the thread. As a matter of fact, since so sources were cited, I did a mad internet search for a bit just to try finding verification.

Truth is, Rudolph is a semi rig being asked to run like a mustang. His hamstring woes have been blatantly obvious to me for a while now. I was actually quite vocal about it in the gameday thread. I snapped a hamstring as a junior in high school, and to this day, when I go to stretch, it still pops.

Seems to me the way the TE position is used with Kelly's system, maybe putting Kamara in there might not be such a bad idea, as was suggested in another thread.

Oh well. Here's hoping for a complete recovery for Rudolph.

this is a devastating loss for us, without defenses keying on rudy just makes us a very average if not below average squad. this really worries me.

I think you mixed up St. X with Elder, where they both attended

This sucks. I hope he does come back strong next year. I wonder if he might roll the dice on the NFL just because of these injuries. Not sure how far his stock has dropped since he hasn't played a full seasons the last 2 yrs?

Agree. All is not lost. Not at all. The troops will step up.

This blows.

I came back from lunch and saw the thread title and i was like what the f. He is my favorite player on the team. He is a game changer in college. Someone who needs to be accounted for each time he is in the game.

well that sucks, but in all honesty he should not have played the last two weeks. Kumara playing in a tight end set does not sound like a horrible idea at this point

Stinks, but hopefully he decides to come back next year. It is Eifert and Ragone's time to step up.

Wow.., this is huge news. I didn't realize it was that serious but you could see he was playing with alot of pain and not at full speed. Really hope he makes a full recovery. I guess we can all stop speculating/assuming that he is gone after this year, but man I didn't want him to get hurt this year.

This blows! Ragone is not impressing me much. I want more out of him. I think Eifert steps up big time in his absence, especially with the weak schedule coming up.
