Predictions of USC's demise

Predictions of USC's demise

are premature. If Kiffin is unable to right the ship, Haden will find someone who will.

This is without a doubt the top NATIONAL rivalry in the country but it is ironic that the rivalry has always been rather one sided. It does seem obvious that they are going in opposite directions. Right now Notre Dame has to hold up their end of the bargin and get better because southern cal is not the great semi pro program of the last 10 years. Now is the time to catch up.

I'm one of those pessimistic people that doesn't believe that there are that many great coaches out there. I mean Kiffin was their first choice right??

People start to get the idea that some programs can run on auto pilot as long as you just have somebody decent as HC to direct the herds of talent pouring in. Then you have examples of Nebraska under Callahan, Michigan under Rich Rod and Sadly Notre Dame after Holtz left that it's not always easy to find the right guy.

It's just so funny how bad USC's defense is with "genius" Monte Kiffin coaching it.

Maybe, but it's not that easy. i haven't read the article yet, but I do follow the program very closely, and they are in deep trouble. They've played 5 teams in which they were double digit favorites, and have covered only vs hapless Wazzou. They've look bad in every other game, against woeful opponents. And now look who they play: Stanford (LOSS), Cal (tough game), Oregon (LOSS), AZ State (no gimme), Oregon St (close loss), AZ (loss), and then their rivals ND and UCLA. They're effed man, royally.

To delve deeper, they are extremely thin in many areas, and thus can't practice tackling. This problem will only get worse as the sanctions start to really hit. Their LB not only sucks, they are really thin there. Their O-line is extremely thin as well, and after this year they will REALLY struggle in that area b/c of Carroll's horrible recruiting in that area the last few years. It goes on and on.

Also, Kiffin is a horrible coach and his dad has proven to be a bad college defensive coordinator. I'm looking forward to this implosion...big time!

Did you know that programs under the death penalty get about as many scholarships as Ty gave out during his tenure...in other words, while the problems you bring up are very real and will get to USC soon, it's not out of the realm of possibility that a few of their players pull a Brady Quinn and keep the program winning this year and even next year.

If Lane Kiffen fails there all they'll have to do is go out there and get any number of alums with more class, character and leadership ability... like say Todd Marinovich, O.J. SImpson or maybe even Keyshawn....

That is what she said... sorry (looks down in shame)

You are all so busy gleefully having fun that you haven’t noticed something important. Notre Dame’s defense is ranked ahead of SC’s per this article;

SC PLAYS MIDDLE SCHOOL DEFENSE!

Im sorry but I want to watch USC fall flat on their face. I enjoyed watching Matt and Lanes face while they watched that final kick go through the goalpost saturday. I hate everything about that school and their smug, arrogant players. Even if USC did not have scholarship problems and probation problems, there would be a drop off. Lane Kiffin is not Pete Carrol. Every good coordinator that was on that staff when they were at their peak is either repositioned or at another school all together. They are falling apart internally and I personally will pull up a chair and watch from the front row as the school crumbles.

when Kiffin does get the boot, whenever that will be, ND fans will have to go back to USC as a respected rival. Everyone else (garrett, poodle pete, kiffin) that was part of the last 10 years at usc will be gone. dare I say it, when kiffin is ****canned, USC will go back to being just the 'hated' rival team, not the 'hated-with-extreme-prejudice' rival they are now.

Actually, if you want to see what Ty's low classes did to ND, look no further than 2007 and our stellar 3-9 record. Brady's classes were gone, and we were stuck with severely limited scholly numbers, just like SC will face. CW had to stop tackling in practice and had to go to NFL-style practices, which is EXACTLY what SC is doing this year.

However, yes, I agree, if they had a good coach, they are talented enough to win plenty of games this year and next, no doubt. But right now, they are poorly coached, especially defensively, where they look both lost and out-of-breath for much of the game. They are an average football team right now, and I'm loving it...

It's about time USC has thier down period, ND obviously has had theirs. Hopefully USC's last just as long well actually longer than ND's.

It's actually true (or so I've been told). ND recruited as if they were on the death penalty under Ty. My point wasn't that it didn't effect us, but that thanks to Chuck and Brady/Shark and a few other guys avoiding injuries, we were able to put off the reckoning. But like NDinLA points out, the reckoning came. If USC gets lucky with injuries this year, they could conceivably be alright. But over the long term, they will just not have the depth to deal with losing key players.

USC sold its soul to win football again. Now they get to reap that.

Even Jim Rome was bagging on them yesterday. South Carolina lost its lawsuit to be "SC" to USC. And Rome said, "Do you even want to be like USC right now?" Love it. Love it, and love it some more.
