Florida State has a very impressive safety class thus far for 2011. It doesnt suprise me that someone like Lyons, who wants to be an immediate impact, would go elsewhere.

Good point. But he's also claimed academics as an important part of his recruitment. I'm not trying to dog on the guy, but that should separate Stanford and ND as clear favorites in this race IMO. I'm sure the other schools have good programs, but not quite the caliber of these two schools. Plus early playing time is a very real possibility if he signs with ND in February. Seems like the complete package he's looking for is in South Bend. Guess we'll see though. Here's to hoping for an Irish commit...

One would think ND and Stanford would stand out BUT then Auburn is on the list. They have a great vetinary program, large and small animals. As for the University's graduation rate, it's not good. Nor is their football GSR. 10 or 12 years ago a graduated Auburn football players sued AUB for failing to do their job. He was a functional illiterate yet AUB had not only admitted him, they had passed him on each semester, and awarded him a degree.

2008 NCAA Division I Graduation Success Rate (GSR) Data - NCAA.org

Auburn -57
Florida -68
Miami -70
Nebraska - 78
Notre Dame - 94
Stanford - 93
UCLA - 62

Keep in mind the focused student can achieve anywhere. Myron Rolle became a Rhodes Scholar at Free Shoes U.

DirtySecret,

I can unequivocally confirm the non-confirmation of that short list. I sent out some PMs last night and none of the responders could confirm a list of 7. One pointed out that Lyons is miffed at articles stressing a self-suiting preference rather that what he actually said.

ms: Unequivocally

;)

I hope we land Lyons. He would be a great asset, transcendentally.

I think that 9/10 players are going to bring up academics just because. Im not saying thats what Lyons is doing but rarely do big athletes not bring academics up during their recruitment. He said he wouldnt be visiting in state schools and hes already named UCLA. If academics are as important as he says then look for ND and Stanford to be in the mix till the end.

If ND lands Lyons after just getting the Atkinson's my head would literally explode from all the awesomeness.

I don't think there's anyway he commits soon. He's going to see how the year plays out for Florida St. and Florida. Everything the kid had done so far points to a late decision.

That said, I'm glad we were able to make a good impression on him.

Some other posters on ISD and ND Nation claim that when they camped together this summer, that Lyons, Tuitt, and Drew all grew close. Hopefully, with Tuitt joining the fold we can close on Wayne. He is definitely a player we need in our secondary.

I really hope we can get this guy. This has been one of my favorites and I will be a happy camper if joins the mix. So far I am very impressed with our recruiting efforts and results! If we can add Lyons, this would be an amazing thing!

Notre Dame..., LOL! World Class Institution!!! Seriously though, I would hope on this young man's potential he chooses anything other than Florida! Academics are great here and at Stanford.., But Notre Dame is special of course!

Florida is a great place to go if all you want to do is party and have a good time. I'm not knocking the school, but it is not in the same league as a Notre Dame or Stanford for a good education and life changing experience. I don't know what Florida's arrest rate is, but it is ridiculous to say the least!

I was just reading on ESPN that under Meyer's tenure at Florida, 30 arrests by 27 of it's players. Meyer claims his team is not dirty..., they play by the rules..., well apparently alot of his players dont.

I saw that article, Urbie needs to square his team away. I'm not saying it's easy to control a team, but if he recruited better people, he would have less incidents. If this was coupled with some harsher discipline for poor choices, he would see a significant drop. Since all he wants to do is win, he's not worried about character, and since he wants to win, he gives bull**** punishments. You reap what you sow Urb, and the fact that all you care about is winning, is pretty obvious.

Mgriff I couldn't agree with you more. Meyer has much to do if he wants to change Florida's image. I will take the academic athlete with some morals over some immature kid who will eventually end up in trouble any day. It's called standards...., and I think We should be proud of the way our football program is run. We are not perfect, but the environment at Notre Dame is in place that pushes our kids to be successful not only in the classroom and on the football field, but in life itself.

I'll take winning a national championship the Notre Dame way any day. We will get our due in the next few years I think.
