"I like to play with things a while. Before annihilation. MWUHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!"

-Ming the Merciless

Seems relevant to this thread. And Flash Gordon just came on HBO. Score Ultimate guilty pleasure, if this were a double feature with "The Black Hole," I'd die and go to sci-fi heaven!!!

Negative. Currently at dad's in MI.

You've gotta watch it. Soundtrack by Queen doesn't hurt its greatness either.

It's 20 minutes into the movie here in SoCal. I remember the song "Flash! A AH! Saviour of the Universe!" lol. Never saw the movie. As I'm watching, it reminds me of Mystery Science Theater 3000, a show from the 90's that made fun of movies. They would have had a field day with this one. :)

Oh yeah...Notre Dame vs. Meatchicken. Just to stay on topic.

Wolverines secondary takes another hit
Wed Sep 08,2010 2:23 PM ET By Keith Arnold

News is breaking today that Michigan sophomore safety Vladimir Emilien has decided to leave the Wolverines football program. That makes another departure from a secondary that's already been plundered by injury and attrition.

"Vlady has decided to transfer and look for other opportunities," Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said today. "He's a good man and we wish him well.". . .

(You know the situation is dire when Greg Robinson's playing a 3-3-5 defense, and the Michigan Rivals' website has a secondary depth chart that only has four active players on it.)

NBC Sports - College Football - Inside the Irish

Things that want to make you say HMMM . . .

Second most important quote: “My other perspective would be: get up on them, score a lot of points,” Kelly said following Wednesday’s practice. “There’s some option principles in there as well in terms of, option teams don’t like to fall behind. If they do and they get off schedule, they have to do some things they don’t want to do." Brian Kelly.

I just can't stand the absolute blindness on some of these UM fans. Comments to the like of "Denard is going to run for 300 yards", "We are going to destroy ND", "They have a new offense, defense and QB", "Its taken UM 3 years to adjust to the spread thats why ND is going to lose by a lot"...

Frankly this game is too close to call imo. I would be shocked if either team bitch slapped the other. ND has the potential to air it out and embarrass that secondary, UM has the potential to run it all day long, so long as Robinson doesn't get crushed. I can guarantee that there will be no 29 rushes in this game.

Then the comments of "They will expect Denard to run it and we'll throw it all day long...", Really? Ever hear of adjustments? Frankly I think that Kelly is a better coach than RichRod, and since the talent level hasn't dropped off substantially from last year and our coach is a major upgrade I can't see ND losing. Even if they do it won't be by a lot...

Help me out fellas, am I missing something? I pride myself on not looking through Irish colored glasses, RE: Last year when I said we were in trouble and you all called me negative... But I can't see this game getting too far out of hand for either side.

Phil Steele on Collin Cowherd just predicted a very close game, he has the Irish winning by a field goal.

If he doesn't transfer,

If he doesn't transfer,

Forcier has been relegated to 3rd string. You will see Gardner before Tate. Don't be surprised to see Forcier leaving very shortly.

I don't see him playing much. Unfortunately, the kid is living his father dream. His dad is from Michigan. I don't think he has the size to play on the next level. If he is going to play a lot of college football, it won't be at Michigan. There would have to be serious injuries to both QB's ahead of him.

I tend to agree with you. I think this game is going to be a dogfight (like with fighter planes not like Michael Vick in case anyone was wondering). We could see several lead changes and momentum swings throughout. Could very well be a "whoever scores last, wins" kind of game. I just don't think this game will be a blowout either way.

The Purdue game wasn't pretty by any stretch of the imagination, but you could see the potential was there in all facets of the game. The DLine is much, much improved and will only get better game to game.

Denard will find it a little more difficult to run free. Against UConn, once he got passed the dline, he could just scamper. Tomorrow, he is going to contend with a guy like Teo who has a nose for getting to the ball and getting there in a timely fashion. I also think we didn't hear a lot from guys like Hayseed because Kelly didn't show a lot of looks where he brought the safeties up at all. Motta, Teo, Carlo, Walls, Gray, et al - I am thinking we have the makings of a pretty good defense and I think this game shows the country what they can do.

If the defense shows up and learned some lessons from last week and if Kelly really was keeping the offense very vanilla on purpose against Purdue, ND has a great shot and is the better team. However, ND has been the "better" team on lots of occasions in recent years and it hasn't always turned out well so, who knows?

I don't know about you guys, but I'm kinda hoping Kelly uses Teo as a spy against Robinson. With his pursuit and tackling abilities, combined with pressure from our line I think it would make it very difficult on the Michigan offense...what do u guys think?

we need to use someone from the back four to spy DR... Teo would be the obvious choice, though you can't just sit one player on him all game... that's asking for exploiting

Be conscious of outside contain so as to maximize Robinson's tendency to cut up inside, then alternate ILB spying depending on the strength of the information. Robinson's runs were often characterized by commentators as quickly bursting through narrow inside gaps [often]. There doesn't seem to me any reason why Carlo can't lie in wait for that and knock his block off in the hole, just like Manti would. But I'm not Diaco or Bud Foster of VA Tech, so I'll take my feeble opinions to gametime and see.

So I am kind of bummed I won't be online at all this weekend. I am going to miss the commentary. The wife and I are heading up to our sanctuary in the mountains for some quiet R&R. I will be able to watch the game, but not be online.

Have a great night tonight everyone and have fun tomorrow. I will be raising a glass to you all - hoping and praying the Irish come out on fire and take it to Meatchicken.

Be safe everyone and at some point tomorrow, please take a moment and say a prayer in memory of 9/11.

I agree. They need to have a disguised spy on his all day, changing it up frequently. We'll see Manti on him often, nickle backs, and I think the defense will have to gamble sometimes on 3rd and short by anticipating the gap, maybe bait Drob into a gap, and fire it along with pressure from the edge so he can't bounce it outside. We have got to get him flustered early, and it'd be nice to get up a score or 2 early and take UM out of its game.Filer is going to be crucial in this game, we need athletes with speed.

I can't sell my ticket and thus am forced to go to the Ohio State-Miami game tomorrow, it will be unbearable. I just now they'll update the scores of the ND-UM game, and I'll do nothing but want to watch it.

Great point, but I would think Manti and Carlo should play regular, and a spy (if they were to use one) would be more of a safety or rover type with quicker, more agile feet. (But I am sitting in the safety of my cubbyhole, while the coaches are out there trying to earn their keep... :) )

Enjoy the R&R GoIrish!!!

I just don't know about this game...Both our secondaries are thin...QBs will not a lot of experience. I think the game comes down to our D-Line and LBs against Michigan's Oline. Robinson will get his yards, but the D-Line has to keep their Oline off our backers. Turnovers and penalties will decide this game.

Robert Smith is Mark May, v 2.0. Yet another ESPN "expert" picking the Skunkbears. All of this Michigan love is making me more nervous than what my eyes have seen.

We gotta win big. Gotta.

No we dont. We just have to win period. A blowout would be lovely but a win in general is good enough for me.

The closer to tomorrow we get the more nervous I'm getting. This game is more to me than just a rivalry game, it's personal for me on several levels. Whenever we lose to scUM my ex-wife calls and talks shit. I pretend that it doesn't bother me and that it's just a game but she friggen knows I'm livid on the inside. The sound of her voice alone makes me want to stick ice picks in my ears, add to that her telling me how much ND sucks and I'm ready to lose it! Guess it's my fault for marrying a scUM alum in the first place. WE MUST BEAT THEM TOMORROW!!!

Semantics. Yes, I would like to score more than Michigan. I will not be disappointed if I am walking out of the stadium after a 31-30 victory. But it would be nice to send a message.
