This is all fine and dandy but at the end of the day, it needs to show on the football field. Not so sure that is gonna give us an advantage over teams but whatever.

I don't think it will help ND win any games, but I think it is a good move because it will help the players to appreciate the tradition. People fight harder for larger goals than those of the self, and I think it is a part of changing the culture that Kelly talks about. We obviously need a football change, but he needs to change their character and mentality as well. I believe this to be in conjunction with the latter.

It will in 6 days.

The week of the Southern Cal game Holtz used to give his players quizzes on the history of the series. He went 9-1-1(ot) against the Trojans.

Too bad Lou didn't test PSU week.

This is great because sadly the traditions and history are lost on todays youth.

Couldn't agree more... Well said.

With appropriate apologies to mgriff, HereComeTheIrish and Warren Zevon: Poor, poor picky-ass me. Take the following with large grains of salt knowing that my tongue is firmly planted in my cheek.

Well intentioned, well thought out, but not well stated as typed. I do believe the word you were looking for, mgriff, is "latter" not "later."

I know damn well that this is a football message board and as such demands a great deal of leeway. But it is a Notre Dame board. We opine. We also educate each other on the current and past and future states of Irish football. So why not a little grammar and composition tutorial?

Though I'm pretty damn good at interpreting internet speak, my life would be simpler were folks to learn the difference between "lose," "loose" and "loss." Oh, and "there," "their" and "they're." As curmudgeon-in-residence I have more pet peeves, but I'll spare you further comment for the nonce.

Drunken or in-the-heat-of-the-moment posts draw an automatic bye.

You, Sir, are correct. Considering I usually pride myself on grammar, I thank you for calling it to my attention. It was a typo, and I do understand the difference between your points. You're an ass ;). I have to ask though, how you can pick out one post which may be my only typo in 369 posts, while ignoring some of the other, more severe, grammatical errors on this site? All I can can ask for, is equal justice under the law.

Actually, as the number two curmudgeon on the site, I too [notice correct usage of "too"] hope for a Notre Dame-related site to be a paragon of education. But, alas, those hopes are regularly dashed. I will now return to my curmudgeonly ways and not bother you-all [whoops, some West Virginian slipped in there] for the rest of the evening.

Well back to the topic at hand, I feel that BK's assignments were nothing more than motivation. Any Irish faithful can get on youtube and watch the Rocket returning punts or Zorich tearing up Miami's interior and feel the thunder that once existed. I personally feel that this is a great way to make the team feel like they truly are part of something special at Notre Dame and can do nothing but help. With that being said, it is time to leave the past where it is and focus on paving a future of success. The glory days are in the future not just in the past.

Best and the brightest, huh? That better be the little identifier under my forum name. You are a scholar and a gentleman, Sir.
