I hope our secondary is in good shape and ready to play some ball. Just read an article over on ESPN and Coach Hope is raving about mavre and comparing him to drew brees.

Take it for what it's worth, he is his coach and does need to give mavre confidence, but we have no reason to believe we're going to win by 30. none.

Bolden will be out for this game?? That is huge... even still, I just have a feeling about this year,

New QB coming of an injury in a new system... uproven O line protecting said QB... A new system AGAIN on defense, with said D being complete swiss cheese at times the past two years... depth in the secondary...

lot of issues man, I wish the schedulewas reversed and we could get WMU, Tulsa, Army and Co in the first half to build on that rather than having to play stiff challenge after stiff challenge to start the year... My hope rests with the pass catchers...

This game could go either way imo.

At least we know who our starting Quarterback is going to be. It could be worse, look at Penn State.

Like you mentioned, Purdue won't have Bolden, and the only other guy who got a decent amount of carries last year (other then Bolden) graduated. They'll be throwing a running back who has less than five carries out there.

They lose Valentin, and Bolden was third in recieving yards for their team last year. So, the only reciever with much experience will be Keith Smith. And I don't care who their new quarterback is, it's still a new quarterback, and he's coming off an injury too.

Their secondary lost all four starters from last year, and our recieving core is pretty strong, they really don't match up well.

Of our first six games, this should be the easiest.

Marve is a Miami transfer after all.

Anyway, there is cause for optimism. Marve is...

A) Coming off of a one year break
B) Playing his first game away, at Notre Dame Stadium, with a crowd that should be more electric than usual, seeing as how it's Kelly's first game
C) Lacking in weapons (Keith Smith is his only proven target)

Reasons for optimism, from the "Optimistic until the first three-and-out and then he explodes" guy!

1. Purdue has no returning starters in the secondary.
2. We own Purdue.
3. We own Purdue at home (they've won once? in the past 17 appearances in South Bend).
4. Purdue can never stop our offense. Ever. Even in 2004, Quinn threw for over 400 yards despite losing 41-16. 2007, our terrible o-line was manhandling the Boilermaker front and Clausen and Sharpley were having their way with them.

At least we know who our starting Quarterback is going to be. It could be worse, look at Penn State.

Keith Smith deserves double coverage. The guy's probably the most underrated wide receiver in the nation not named DeAndre Brown.

Simply for the first time in years we need to come out with tenacity and stomp someone from beginning to end. Not saying this will be that game but I would like to see the signs of this team learning how to do that on Sept 4th.

Of course, my Fantasy Football draft is on Sat, 9/4. The way my league drafts, I can't see us finishing by 3:30pm. No way will I be able to concentrate.

Thank God for the DVR though... only way I'll get through the day.

So I'm watching the Purdue preview on the Big Ten Network, right now, and there's some pretty uplifting stats.

Aside from Keith Smith (1,100 yards, 6 TDs), the next leading receiver (Ralph Bolden, out) had just 249 yards. The third had a little over 200.

Bolden had 935 yards. The next leading rusher had 48.

Eh, I don't think it's appropriate to wish injury on any of these kids, whether they play for Purdue, Michigan, USC, Florida, or Alabama, regardless of their personal character flaws, etc.

agreed. SO much more satisfying to beat them at full strength, leaving them without any excuses.

With little to no running game Marve should expect a good amount of picks.
ND's passing game will be strong so Pudue won't be able to let ND's running game pick up yardage.

Just checked Weather.com, Gameday Forecast, 74 degrees, mostly sunny, 10 mph winds from the south, or as Mike Collins would put it, "Today's weather. PERFECT"

ISD has a solid article that points out some very good points about both teams in week one.
http://www.irishsportsdaily.com/blogs/smittys-blog/3120-its-game-week-purdue-preview-inside
In summary, our offense should not have a problem moving the football against a Purdue defense that lost four starters in its secondary. Its also noted that Purdue's rush defense last year ranked 94th in the nation while giving up approximately 174 yards per game. All signs point to the fact that ND should be able to move the ball at will.

Does anybody know if Purdue plans on doing walk-thru's at ND on Friday? Not sure how common it is or at what time...just trying to see what's going on with stadium access - saw that sometimes you can get into the Stadium for photos. Thanks!

ISD has thrown up a very nice preview for Purdue here, going into the positions individually. A good summary of what we're up against.

I can't believe it is FINALLY game week!!! This has felt like the frickin' longest offseason we have ever had. I am tired of the predictions and "what ifs" - it's time to tighten the chin straps, lace up the cleats, and get it on!!!

Saturday can't get here fast enough!

Has anybody parked in the new golf course parking at ND. I thought about it last year but always ended up in the North Lot. Just wondering what time you would have to get there before it fills up?

My Game prediciton- The Irish move the football at will but struggle to finish drives in the 1st QTR. Marve and Purdue score the first TD of the game but the Irish answer with a big running play. 10-7 ND.

2nd Qtr- Purdue turns the ball over and the Irish score quickly deep inside Purdue territory 17-7(Stadium Erupts) Marve drives Purdue down the field into the Irish redzone but stalls 17-10. The Irish score to end the fist half to lead 24-10.

2nd Half. Irish take opening drive of the second half to make it 31-10. Purdue becomes one demensional and struggles the rest of the way. The Irish use their staple of RBs to run out the victory 38-17.
