I think it's simple: If we win 10-11 games this year we have a good shot at him because he could see immediate playing time. If not, we have a snowball's chance in Hell.

Kinda like Aaron Lynch huh ?

I don't believe IrishLax ever said we didn't have a chance with Lynch. Secondly, Aaron was always high on Notre Dame and even stated in his commited interview that he told the coaching staff he'll end up commiting to ND but wanted to take a look around.

Lyons is a different story. The only time he even meantions ND when he's being interview by an ND site other than that he never meantion them. To me that looks like lip service..

The fact that he is taking an OV is nice. He's not taking OVs to in state schools which apparently he favors. To me it just seems like he deals out the information that he feels people wanna hear at the time of the interview. I hope thats not the case and I hope my judgement is very wrong. Anything can happen when a player visits South Bend for the first time. He has to have a considerable amount of interest to give us an OV.

Ok... according to the things I've read... Lyons' mother says UF is NOT his favorite. She said people should come to the source and stop with the bad reporting.

If thats the case then to me that opens things up a lot. It seems like he wants to be part of a rebuilding operation judging by what he said about Notre Dame and FSU. Due to the fact that FSU is the in-state school, I would say they have the upper hand. The only reason I would question that would be the fact that FSU already has pledges from two four star safeties in this class with Keelin Smith and Tyler Hunter. With our lack of depth, that has to open the door just a little bit more.

This is great news guys, thanks for the update. I still don't think he'll end up at ND (I've followed his recruitment closely since last year), but I have more hope than I had yesterday. An ass-kicking and a fantastic atmosphere that shows that ND is back on the right track could be what the doctors to get Lyons seriously thinking he could spend 4-5 yrs at ND.

Also good news that momma Lyons says FL isn't his #1. I still think one of the local schools, esp FL, will win out in the end, but I also believe he'll give the out-of-state schools an honest shot. And I'd say Stanford would be a GREAT shot to get him if I didn't think their coach was NFL/Michigan bound in the near future. Everyone knows it too.

Michigan becomes a bigger game by the minute!!!

I think we're in a much better position than many people believe. Here's what I'm thinking...

1. Early playing time on NC contender
2. ND is on the right path with a chance to win NC again
3. The quality education
4. Early playing time on NC contender
5. Early playing time on NC contender

oh yeah,, and did I mention early playing time!

JMO, your mileage may vary.

Now I wouldn't go as far to say NC contender.. We haven't seen one football game under the new staff. We haven't seen how the defense holds up. We are on the right track to win some ball games.

Irishlax posted that unless we won 10-11 games that we had no shot on landing Wayne Lyons.
Daytonirish was suggesting that he said the same thing about Aaron and look how that turned out. Obviously not the case but he wasnt taking a shot at Aaron.

Damn it! I knew Ms Lynch would be in here after that comment. That is the reason why I tired clearing it up. It was totally a bad example to use..

The thing is Irishlax never said that in Lynch's profile..

Dirty... my point is... we have to be playing as if we're on the way back to the top against Michigan. If Lyons sees the product on the field and there is a great chance for early PT, I'd say he'll commit to ND.

We have a legitimate shot with Lyons because he is a very thoughful kid and those kind of kids can't help but notice how much ND has to offer them. Simply put, ND would be a perfect fit for him. The only problem I see is that he seems so self-motivated he is going to be a perfect fit for anyone he chooses.

If we got Lyons and Lynch in the same class I would be ecstatic. You know the buzz would draw someone else in to, like Newberry- who I hear is a good kid as well.

If we keep getting these high-character beasts out of Florida (Lynch, Prestwood, Rabasa, Burton) our team is goinng to be unstoppable. Those are Diaco's kind of men.

Pope Urban is going to start thinking twice about staying in the swamp!

Dear Mrs. Lynch, Dayton's phraseology was meant to contrast the way You and Aaron handled the recruiting in a serious well-thought-out way and then made your decision based on the things you found out personally and on many topics of importance. Some recruits seem not to be able to filter the information as well as you did, some others just like to play around as if the decision was a fun thing to squeeze everything out of, and some seem to be cramped and indecisive. You and Aaron were none of these things, and I read Dayton's remarks as flattering to you. Regardless of any of that, you can be assured that Aaron's verbal commitment was the happiest day of the year for this group of ND recruiting fans, and we love you both for it.

Totally, totally wrong example! First of all, Aaron ALWAYS made it very clear to every reporter, recruiter, coaches and every one else.......Notre Dame is number one before a interview or a discussion would even get started Aaron would stress that, and anyone that has come across Aaron would tell you that..... So, next time have your facts right before saying some shit like that.

See what happens.. Let it be known again, that we have a verbal recruits mother on this board. So when choosing your words, choose them wisely and be very clear when making examples.

OV set for the Michigan game

Michigan game is setting up to be the most important game of the year. The team needs to step up big, not just for this year but for all the recruits coming to it. The next four years could be on the line there.

No... not like Aaron Lynch at all. I never said anything remotely close to that about Aaron (my first post ever on this site was in that thread... and I just re-read the last 25 pages to double check that I wasn't mis-remembering).

So no, it is NOT "kinda like Aaron Lynch." There is a HUGE difference between Aaron's situation, view on ND, etc. and Wayne Lyons' situation.

With Lyons, my gut tells me if we have a dominant football season and can offer him immediate playing time we'll definitely be considered. Otherwise, it just seems like he is leaning towards staying closer to home. The end.

Guess I should have explained myself a little more. I would put Wayne in the same class as Aaron as far as a player that his a HUGE get for ND. One thing I've learned reading up on recruits is that which ever site does the interview they make it sound like their school has a great chance. If Brian Kelly and the Notre Dame staff think they have a chance then they should go after any recruit as hard as they can. Sometimes we as fans read a few articles and think Notre Dame has no chance with a player. Until a player actually makes up his mind then we have a chance.

I in no way was taking a shot at Aaron or saying anything bad about him. I was very excited about him picking and the Irish and can't wait for him to wear the Irish uniform.

Dirty do you have a link for that? Good sign that Florida State didn't make his top 7.

Florida State has a very impressive safety class thus far for 2011. It doesnt suprise me that someone like Lyons, who wants to be an immediate impact, would go elsewhere.

I can't confirm it. I don't have an article on it and I'm not a subscriber.

Rivals lists the 7 DirtySecret posts PLUS Tennessee.

Scout lists the 7 as AUB, UF, FSU, MIA, NU, SU, UCLA as Medium and LSU & ND as LOW (makes 9). They don't list an ND visit.
