Isn't St. Peters H.S.the same school David Rivers the star point guard for Digger Phelps? That guy was a magician with the ball.

This guy looks to be a special athlete as well.

I'll betcha if you do a simple google search, you could find the answer yourself...

Not being chippy.....perhaps a smiley would have been in order. Pretty tough to convey sarcasm on a message board. lol

Savon Huggins ready to cut his list in half - ESPN
By Roger Brown
Sep 6

Four-star running back Savon Huggins (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) said he may trim the list of schools he's considering to five sometime this week.
Huggins, No. 29 in the ESPNU 150, is currently considering 10 schools: Florida, Georgia, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Stanford, Wisconsin.
"I'm in the process of narrowing it down," Huggins said. "Every school I'm looking at right now is looking at me as someone who can start right away. I was looking at schools where I could get early playing time. Also, academically these programs are the best fit for me."

Would be nice to land Huggins, great to see ND in his top 10.

Count us out on the early playing time. He can work his way into the rotation, but he has a long way up that ladder Roberson, Hayes, Gray, and Wood. I don't see that happening.

I agree. If Rutgers was his lean already then thats why. He can step right in and play at Penn State as well after this year. He'll have to earn his time at Notre Dame. I think we might have made so head way this weekend when BK showed that he is serious about establishing the run. I would hate to see us land him and something happen like it did with Shaq. He's not going to be given the time just because and I would just be suprised overall if we were in his top 5.

If he wants guaranteed early playing time, ND is not his school. If he wants to go to a school that will start younger players who play better than the upper-classman, ND is solid.

You would be shocked if he came in and beat out Gray and Roberson for touches? I hope that does not happen, but it sounds very possible to me.

You forgot Hayes(when he comes in) and Wood.

To me Hayes, Wood, and Gray make up a very solid backfield. Landing Huggins would be amazing but its not essential for a winning recipe. We are very talented at RB right now. If he wants to come in and earn his time then great, but I am already sick and tired of hearing about kids transferring because they are not on the two deep on week one as freshman. Its ridiculous. If you are in the starting role as a freshman its either because the team is very thin at that position or (TJ Jones) you come in and earn your way.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! I still don't think we will get him though.

I agree. Being in his final 5 is very encouraging though. IMO Rutgers and Florida have the best shot at landing Savon. Pitt has already recieved a commit from Poteat and Lewis is only a sophmore. North Carolina has more problems than any other team in the country and Im suprised to see them in his top 5. There is opportunity for early playing time, but I dont know how relevant they'll be on a national standpoint. Notre Dame is pretty loaded at RB with Cierre Wood, Jonas Gray, Cameron Roberson, and Justice Hayes. Early playing time is not at all a guarentee. Just my opinion.

Its gotta be us or Florida, unless he wants to be a big fish in a small bowl.

Rutgers is a very real player in this, as is Pitt. Ray Rice was great for Rutgers and is balling in the League, it's his home school, and they've done a great job recruiting him. And Pitt has an excellent history with running backs. Meanwhile, name a great FL running back (pros wise) since Emmitt Smith.

But I'm with you guys, this is awesome news! Kid is a stud, and last Saturday he saw that BK is serious about running the ball. If he's not afraid of competition (I doubt he is), ND is a great option for him (the other schools are also very good options for him, sans N Carolina, as much as I hate to say it).

Fred Taylor had some great years in the NFL...If he stayed healthy probably would have been a HOF...So yea Fred Taylor might be considered great.

Irish Man I completely agree with you. I think it comes down to Florida and Rutgers.

Rutgers has made significant headway on both Shuler and Huggins. Let's not forget that Ray Rice came from via the Garden State

I think it's us vs. Pitt and Rutgers all the way, UNC is in trouble, and Florida doesn't run the ball the way a stud tailback would (I.M.O.)want....I would say Rutgers in the end.

Wasn't all the talk when Hayes committed about we could take both because one could end up in the slot like Riddick?

IMO you dont move Hayes anywhere reguardless if we land Savon or not. Justice Hayes is a natural RB and fits this system perfectly. With Armando and Hughes gone after this year, there is room for either of them to make an impact if they earn it. I honestly dont think we will have to worry about it, but if the problem arises, I would much rather deal with a problem of having to much talent rather than not enough.

I've thought all along that it's Rutgers, then everyone else in the race for both Huggins and Shuler, but I hold out hope that we can convince both to come to ND.

A very good season with an official visit can put us at the top of any recruit's list. There's something magical about Notre Dame's football program that can't be described; it can only be seen/felt while seeing it first hand in person. Never count us out with any prospect.

But, his desire to wait for an All-star game hat shuffle could cost him a spot at his best option.

They will hold a spot for Huggins if he keeps in contact with the staff and expresses interest. No doubt in my mind

I would love for he and his pal Shuler to do the hat shuffle ending with a ND hat. I think he would better in a ND uniform. Rutgers uniforms are almost as ugly as Michigan's.

I like what Atkinson said when asked why he changes his plans about commiting at the AA game. He said somthing like it wouldnt be much of a surprise if im sitting there with 4 Notre Dame hats
