With Theo Riddick switching from running back to wide receiver this season, what are your expectations for him?... assuming that he does win out job for the slot position or playing time for that matter.

A lot of screens to get him in open space. I think he'll need at least another year to become proficient at the route tree and developing into a true wide receiver.

3 things to expect from TR

3 things to expect from TR

1. End around runs from motion at the slot position. Hey he is a running back after all.

2. Bubble screens and two step quick slants that are easy to run, short and then let him use his speed.

3. You may see a few fly patterns as Grimes did against Purdue and Stanford in the slot a couple of years ago. Fly patterns require no moves and pure speed.

I don't think it'll take him a year to run good routes as he's already being developed. He looked great at the spring game and that was many moon ago. He can learn from coaches and watch TJ. He has no limits.

I'd rather him watch and learn from Floyd than TJ. :starwars:

he will be o. will have some learning to do withb route and all but if he's hit in stride on those slants it could go to the house.

200-300 yards and a ton of touches on reverses and other trick plays.

One punt return touchdown, two receiving touchdowns.

Don't know. But, whenever he touches the ball with space, it'll be exciting. He's the only player outside of Tate that seemed like he could break away at any moment.

I think whenever he gets the ball he'll be exciting, Tate was a RB before he was a receiver.

So was Tim Brown and Desmond Howard and they seemed to do ok. Smell a Heisman in the future?? (P.S. the punt returns helped them as well)

Yep. When folks talk about Floyd as a Heisman possible, and compare him to Tim Brown, they forget Brown was a bit more versatile and could score on any punt return of kickioff return. Floyd seems to be used more as a superfocused Savant pass receiver.

Hopefully Theo got an opportunity to speak with Golden Tate to discuss how RBs and effectively switch quickly to WR.

Remembering back to Tate's 1st year, I'd love to see Theo in some deep GO routes although I believe BK is a little more creative in his WR routes then CW.

Of the 70+ passes thrown to Michael Floyd in 2009, over 50 were outside the hashmarks, almost exclusively out routes and go routes.

I believe I definitely am a wide receiver,” he says.

He doesn’t care how he gets the ball, but he wants it.

Every route is my favorite route right now because I feel I can score on any of them,” he says with a chuckle. “That’s the goal right?”

I honestly thought he'd be slower in his development. This is a pleasant surprise.

It is indeed.

Shaq and Duvall battling, and Eifert rising at TE, Kelly will have a stable of receivers with depth similar to the depth that Holtz used to have at RB when he could throw fresh legs in the game series after series and wear down the defenders. Back when Dorsey Levens couldn't crack the depth chart.

I think ND has as good a receiver at WR, TE, and RB as any team in the country, if not the best. And as good a Receiving Corps from top to bottom at those 3 positions as any team in the country, again is not the best.

I agree... same could have been said when healthy last year also though...

the issue will not be the passing game at all... it'll be... Do we stay healthy at key psoitions and can Diaco get the defense to make a second half stop somewhere? A Yes to both andit's a banner year.
