They are on number 51 and no mention of any ND players.

Where do you think any ND player will land. I think Rudolph and Floyd will be on there. Hoping Rudolph is top 30 and Floyd is top 15.

Floyd isn't in the top 50 in the country?????

seriously???

or do you mean they are counting UP to number 1?? If so Floyd should be a no brainer top ten imo... Kyle R.?? He should get hit pretty quick if they are at number 51

Rudy should be ahead of Floyd IMO.

I agree.

No offense to the sensational Floyd, but due to the ESPN hype machine, two (possibly three) wide receivers are "better" than Floyd: Georgia's A.J Green (indisputable, this kid is just on a whole different level), Alabama's Julio Jones (he's not, but he has "potential", horrible hands), and maybe Pitt's Jonathan Baldwin (not as dominant).

Rudolph is hands down the best tight end in the nation, and is just about unanimously (some people like Arkansas tight end D.J Williams more) thought of that way by other non-Irish fans and pro scouts.

Actually, I think Rudolph is the better player.

There are other amazing WRs out there that can rival Michael Floyd.

But in my opinion, Kyle Rudolph is by far the best TE in the country. I'll guarantee that whenever he goes into the draft he'll be the first TE taken. I can't guarantee that Michael Floyd will be the first WR taken.

I will say this about Michael Floyd he may be the greatest WR in Notre Dame history right now... And the scary thing is he still can still play for two more years.

Both players are great. So this debate is a good debate to have.

Can't wait to see how they play this year.

Good stuff. I don't agree but good stuff.
I agree that AT THIS POINT Rudoph is a better complete player - if Floyd stays healthy a full year that could change my mind.
Is Floyd the greatest WR in ND history? I didn't start following ND full time till around 88, so I caught a little of Tim Brown, and the Rocket. Right now I'd say those 2 are better, but as you said this debate is good to have.

Ismail is not a better receiver than Floyd. Ismail was not a pure wide receiver.

Brown is better...for now. Floyd has been better than Brown as a freshman and sophomore. Of course, he cannot hold up to the legacy of one of the best wide receivers ever at this point, but he at least deserves some props for performing better early on.

Crist makes list next year.

Yes. By 2012, he'll break the Top 25.

...

Ismail and Brown were both buried in a running attack. And they didn't have a Head Coach, and Offensive Coordinator, nor a WR Coach that had a clue about running a passing attack. Holtz bumbling Blarney Offense bears witness. In a Weis or Kelly offense both would smash receiving records.

Tony Rice threw 357 passes in his CAREER.

Clausen threw 425 last year.

Brown was the leading pass receiver in '86 with 45.
Brown was the leading pass receiver in '87 with 39.
Watters was the leading pass receiver in '88 with 15. (Lowest total since '65.)
Ishmail was the leading pass receiver in '89 with 27
Ishmail was the leading pass receiver in '90 with 32.

Last year ND had 7 receivers with more receptions than Watters had in '88.

Tate caught more passes (94) in a season last year than than the leading ND receivers for the years '86, '87, and '88.

The leading receivers in '88, '89. and '90 totaled only 74.

With proper receiver coaching and an offensive coordinator Brown, Watters, and Ishmail would have made Shark, McKnight, Stovall, Tate, and Floyd second teamers whether the QB was Clausen, Quinn, Mirer, or Rice.

I think Tate was in a league of his own when it came to being a football player. He was not the most physically dominant but his heart and determination made him lethal. I think he'd shine if he stayed another season, and again, make Floyd the # 2 guy (which would be a awesome situation). I think Tate seperated himself from the group of shark, McKnight, Stovall, and Floyd (For now). Tate belongs in the same discussion with Brown, Watters, and Ishmail. Tates ambition far exceeded his talent. His confidence was second to none. He had the same "swagger" as those guys.

Floyd has the talent and tools. He just has to stay healthy

His heart and determination also got him in trouble with donuts... just sayin.

Back to the WR debate.

I think that in 5 years (or less) we'll be having the same converstation about TJ. Jones hasn't played one down in an Irish jersey yet but it sounds like he's option 3 right now after Floyd & Rudolph. I thought he looked great at the spring game and just wait till he puts on some muscle. Stay healthy TJ, we need you.

By 2011, he'll be the solid possession guy while Theo Riddick is the explosive, take-it-to-the-house kind of guy.

Julio Jones is at number 40. Anybody think that they'll rank Floyd higher than AJ Green?

I don't think so...I would imagine Floyd would be ranked behind Baldwin and Green.

Since you guys are just having fun with this, I'll jump in and defend the "old guys" as usual. I remember a fellow named Jack Snow. I'm sure that our Heisman winning QB John Huarte would think that he deserved to be in this discussion. And I'm sure that his Los Angeles Rams teammates think so too. A great, great wide and deep threat from a much less pass-happy era. Also, since this is allegedly in part about over-all football play, I'll do the unthinkable and mention someone who no one remembers: Monte Stickles. Stickles was about 6'5" and 235lbs and fast, in an age [1959 etc] where that made him a monster. Our "big" end was not Stickles but Bob Wetoska who was converted to Tackle by the Bears [played umpteen years]. Stickles therefore was often flanked out making DB nightmares and him a two-time all-american. He also played a nasty defensive end and did all the field goal and kick-offs. And he was a mean man on top of it. [I remember a Navy game where someone like Bellino scored and a big tackle began dancing in the end-zone. ND fans began chanting his number. We scored soon after, and Stickles went back to kick off. He kicked and then veered hard left directly at the tackle. Most eyes followed the ball, but I was astounded to see Stickles slam the tackle to the turf and jump on him pummeling him with punches. I can't remember a flag being thrown. A different era...it was not our finest spiritual hour, but the animal in me still liked it at the time]. If Monte Stickles had the advantages of modern training and offenses, he would make most of the fellows we're used to seeing today take a respectful step aside. ... and I haven't even mentioned Leon Hart. Ha. Don't hate me cuz I'm old.

it would surprise me if they make that list.

Floyd made the list LAST year, so him not making the list this year would be an incredible shock. They also ranked some tight ends very highly last year, so Rudy should make the list too. I imagine both will be in the top 20.

Mr. Floyd comes in at #5 this year. I don't believe Rudolph will be on the list, which is absurd.

It's stupid that there's no Rudolph, since they ranked him their #1 TE. And Manti should have been on the list too. On the other hand, I'm surprised they ranked Floyd #5. Though they had him as their #1 WR, so I knew it had to come eventually.

He will be on the list, Rivals already ranked the top players by position and he was ranked as the top TE, and there have been several tight ends on the list.

The more interesting thing is that Rudy is ranked ahead of Floyd. That's somewhat surprising given that they claim the list is about production more than potential. There is no way Rudy will out-produce Floyd, even though there is a good chance he will be the better pro.
