Big article on Irish Illustrated, but I'm not a member so can't read. Says he was offered. Also says he is an ordained Baptist minister since 8th grade.

Sweet, I get to scout him (Thomasville, GA is about ten minutes north of Tallahassee).

Rivals is saying this kid is a stud. Will be a top prospect in 11.

because ...

Have you read something?

Speculation?

2.9 as a junior man. Do the math. He would have to pull a 4.0 to get around 3.2ish 3.3ish.

Also consider the amount of credits he has taken. Whats the liklihood he'll strap it in?

Now if he has taken diff. eq. by the end of his senior year, then I'm silenced. But a 2.9 GPA is far from stylish.

Your statements are off base across the board. ND doesn't require a 3.2 if they did Kendall Moore 2.9 and Louis Nix 2.5 wouldn't have gotten LOI's to sign on Wednesday. Paddy Mullen at a 2.2 as a first semester senior. ND doesn't have a mimimun GPA or Test Score. ND Admissions assesses each one of them on their ability to do the coursework at ND. Paddy Mullen had cruised through his first 3 years in HS and had the GPA to prove it. He was told he had to show definitive improvement in his grades to get admitted to ND. He applied himself and showed he could do the work and ND Admissions cleared him.

You made a statement about credits and this kid apparently being short in your judgement yet you have no basis for that comment. As long as he's on schedule to get the 16 credits ND requires he's fine. If he's not on track to complete his studies, ND won't offer a scholarship.

BTW, the NCAA now requires 16 core credits fr all student athletes as a minimum. ND may require tougher courses particularly in math but the days of ND requiring 4 more credits than the NCAA are gone.

A 2.9 core GPA would put him solid with ND Admissions.

P.S. If you want to continue discussion on prospects and ND Admissions let's open up a thread in the general recruiting section rather then filling up this recruit's profile.

Rivals video from Georgia Tech interviewing him. Seems like he is going to take his time and look at a number of schools. When pressed wouldn't name a top 5 or even 10 of his 16 offers.

I love the kid's frame. 6-5 240. He mentioned Al Groh at Ga. Tech recruiting him to play at OLB or WDE in the 3-4. I think with his size he is destined to play with his hand on the ground.

Most people think that he will end up in the south, as every SEC school has offered and he's been particularly impressed with Georgia and Georgia Tech (esp Georgia and Coach Richt). But he did have this to say recently about ND:

Although he isn’t sure he’ll be able to make it to USC or Notre Dame this summer, he admits those two programs are also on his radar.

“Notre Dame is Notre Dame,” he said. “Their academics surpass most schools and if you get a degree from them it’s going to carry you a long way.”

Drew says he’s also excited to see how new Irish coach Brian Kelly does. “They had a lot of success in the past and good tradition and coach Kelly is looking to bring that back,” Drew said.

He also had this to say about his recruitment:
“I’m looking for a school with good academic success and a good grad rate,” he said about his criteria in finding a college. “After that I’d say player/coach relationship is big. I want to know who I’m playing for and what their morals are.

“I’m also looking for a program with good tradition and fan support,” he said.

Drew hopes to begin narrowing down his list this spring and summer. “I’ll be narrowing it down,” he said. “But I think I’ll keep that to myself for a while. I’ll only let the coaches know. I don’t want to make it public too soon. But I also don’t want to waste anybody’s time because I know recruiting costs money and if I eliminate a school, I’ll let them know.”

Seems like a great kid. It'll be really tough to pull him in, but at least we're on his mind...

Can we refer him to the thread on the fact that we have the best grad rate in the country since he says that's important?

You hear a lot of differing opinions on where Drew is leaning when talking to people close to the recruiting business, and Drew himself isn't tipping his hand. I still think eight schools have a shot here: Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Tennessee.

During this past week he made stops at South Carolina, Clemson, Tennessee, Auburn, and Florida. He got to see all the schools, sat down with coaches, and came away impressed with each on different levels.

To me, the biggest factors leading up to Drew's decision will be the position coach, family environment, and playing time - in that order. Kevin Steele at Clemson and Tracy Rocker at Auburn, in my opinion, have done the best job thus far of cultivating an early relationship with Drew. Family connections also have him looking hard at Clemson. Florida State, once thought to be in the lead, have fallen back a little bit and the duo of Jimbo Fisher/D.J. Eliot have some ground to make up.

The Drew commitment shouldn't come until late in the process; so many teams could maneuver their way to the top of his list, but for now I think it's Clemson.

Early Projection: Clemson

Recruiting Week in Review

by Joe Brashaw

8/5/10

I like Notre Dame. It’s a great school, a great coaching staff and a great football program But on top of that, they have a great academic program up there as well An education from Notre Dame is second to none You have to look at all that kind of stuff; where can I play great football and get an education all at the same time Notre Dame is a place that offers all of that.

Claims to be wide open. Has two Official Visits in mind but isn't telling who. Will announce on NSD.

getting close to full on recruits would we hold a spot for him?

In short, YES.

When you hear people talking about saving a couple spots for "truly elite" guys, they are talking about dudes like this. If we landed him, it would make this one of (if not THE) the best defensive front classes ever at ND.

He has said good things ab ND recently via ISD. Thats a great sign and on top of that his teammate (Tuitt) has left the Irish door open. I think if we land one of them, the other follows and we take them both. He have the room and defense is essential. That would create so much depth throughout our front seven, and give us several options over the next few years:
Louis Nix, Ray Drew, Stephon Tuitt, Clay Burton rotating on the line and Aaron Lynch and Anthony Rabasa as hybrid or line options. Leaving us tons of options at the inside/outside LB positions: (Prince Shembo, Jarrett Grace, Ben Counsell, Brad Carrico, Kendall Moore, and with any hope Manti Teo).

I think Aaron Lynch is gonna end up w/ his hand on the ground full time and Burton would be more the hybrid...not trying to be a jerk, just saying, Aaron is already up to 265ish, and w/ that frame he could weigh 280 easy.

I think Aaron will be 290ish by graduation, and dense as lead.
