I feel like people gotta cool it a little bit with the hype. This team is not that "complete" top-to-bottom on offense. Last year we benefited greatly from having two ELITE RBs and CJ throwing against a stacked box more than virtually any QB.

Defense is the side of the ball where you have same coordinator + upgraded personnel and it's legit to have cockiness barring injuries. Offense has a LOT to prove skill positions.

And who knows how good the new coaches on defense will be.

I actually think this team is complete. I think the two WRs from OSU are going to add what we've been missing in passing, and after Landon's OL breakdown I'm feeling very confident in that group.

The thing about it is, Oregon, Texas, OSU, and Georgia are just as bit as loaded if not more. I have no doubt ND has a title team, but plenty of others do too.

Basically none of the hype is internally created and every other team has some holes too.

ND is #2 in blue chip ratio. Returning starter at QB. Upgrades at WR while also returning the top receiver. Return everyone of consequence on defense. ND should absolutely be the top seed when you factor in the schedule. Freeman’s yet to go perfect so we will see.

I do think Vegas is the one place you probably don’t have to worry about inflated hotel costs because of a game when there’s literally thousands of empty hotel rooms even on peak weekends in peak season. January is slow for Vegas otherwise.

While early reports on Mylan Graham are extremely positive, we do not know yet how much we have or have not upgraded our pass catchers. Malachi Fields was draft #74 overall. Raridon was drafted #95 overall. Those are both really good players that you need to replace.

We saw Penn State and Texas stub their toes last year despite on paper being very complete teams with returning QBs/production. Penn State it was a product of shit coaching and Tyler Warren being harder to replace than people thought (and some bad injury luck). Texas was really inexplicable, lost to some bad teams for no real reason.

All I'm saying is that you read articles like the above with people saying "this time feels different" and I'm concerned that this is a lack of appreciation for how good some of the guys are that are being replaced on O. We had 4x guys drafted in the top 100.

Too many tweets, clips, posts al over the place like ND is a lock for the trophy. The emotion from getting snubbed will only last a little bit. There will be some solid competition to deal with. The talent is there to win it, but it's not a gimme.

I don’t think anybody is just handing the trophy to Notre Dame. Everyone expects they are a Top 4 team which is 100% reasonable. There are certainly other teams that will make that very difficult including Miami but if you laser focus on NDs warts, you’ll miss that every other team has the same amount and likely more. Like pick a team and I can give you more concerns about them if it makes anyone feel like they aren’t crazy to be confident for this year.

Arch wasn’t a returning QB, unless you mean Clemson.

Texas was 103rd in returning production

I’m afraid of CJ backsliding this year. Both against SC and Pitt he was a liability, but everything around him was so good it didn’t matter. My biggest concern going into the playoffs last year was Carr laying an egg, but we obviously never got to see what happened. Now he loses Fields and 2 RBs drafted in the first round, but him being an elite monster this season is being treated as a given. I don’t get why

QB & OL are likely to improve, WR is unknown but has more upside than downside, TE will be a small drop off, and RB will obviously be a big drop off.

Outside of Carr, Mylan Graham is really the key to the offense IMO. If he's as good as we think he can be then i dont think out offense will be much worse at all than last year.

The convergence of returning production + HS recruiting + portal changes is what makes this ND team different.

They are 1st in returning production.

They have a historically high blue chip ratio. Not sure if 2 is correct but it will be a program record regardless.

They infused NFL caliber transfers. High end. Not wow this transfer might be Day 2 or Day 3 pick that’s a nice get. It’s this transfer is R1 if this goes right.

All that to me, mean, hell yeah be confident in this team. It CAN be different.

TE for me is fascinating to monitor compared to last year. I thought not having Flanagan as a 2nd TE in 12 sets brought the run game down a notch.

I know some will counter with the talent of Love/ Price, but Flanagan is an elite run blocker and Flanigan isn't far behind, imo.

I predict hose 12 sets will hit different this year. And someone from the room is gonna catch a couple td's. Heck, might even be a sneak option from the group.

RB and TE is interesting for ND to replace because we have for the last 20 years been conditioned to say - those are are stud players and now we have to replace them. We come in at #1 in returning production because those are positions that get underweighted compared to every other offensive position. We’re actually 111th in returning FBS snaps on offense.

Price and Raridon were amazing players but should be replaceable if we’re a remotely serious program. Love on the other hand…

We won’t replace Love with a comparable talent, obviously. But also we do not need a top-five-draft-pick level talent at RB to win a national championship.

The guys we have should be sufficient, especially if the passing game improves like we all think it will in Carr’s second year.

Agreed. Fletcher, Hemby and Black were the 3 national title RBs and none will/did sniff the first round.

For those that don't want to read the Vegas Insiders article:
-General consensus from the guys who do this for a living is that we are in Tier 1A
-From a public standpoint, we more bets than anyone. We are also trading at highest odds on prediction markets.
-From a handle standpoint, Ohio State is #1

Regardless, this is the first time in ... decades? 2006, maybe? ... that we are a consensus pre-season top dog.
