My opinion (worth very little though): Vernon seemed like a rush DE to me who for whatever reason couldn't do it, and was placed inside where his radical-quick first step wasn't as much an asset. A knee injury. Then too much weight? I'll bet had he been at a lesser school, his playing career would be strikingly different (Slimmer/ outside/ maybe no knee?)

Not to pile on a whiff of a football prospect, but did he ever take a snap in a game?

I don't think he ever had a lightning quick first step, even in HS. Was never going to be a plus pass rusher.

Think this was simply the case of a guy who developed faster in high school than his peers...and then the game caught up to him.

It happens. Wasn't a bad eval or the staff's fault, some guys just don't pan out despite looking like studs in high school (Steve Filer, Ishaq Williams, etc.)

I think that's spot on.

I had high hopes again from the Army All-American game when he snagged a 1-handed INT on a screen. Thought his size and length would play, even without a high level burst. Don't think he ever moved the needle after arriving.

I saw him take a few snaps in garbage time. I also had high hopes for the guy, but I think Katz nailed it. At this point, with all the upgraded talent on the roster, who do you take off the field to give him snaps?

One tackle in mop up duty against UVA in 2024. Had to look it up, because I sure as hell don't remember ever seeing him on a depth chart let alone in the game.

Sometimes it just doesn't work out. Hope he gets that degree and has a successful professional career.

Wow-had such high hopes for him on the field when he committed. Best of luck!

Hopefully he finishes school and gets that degree. Good on the young man for sticking it out this far.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he does and then even considers playing elsewhere for a year or two after some rest. Might be a good way to pick up a Masters Degree.
