Showing as sold out in the "lottery"

Edit: and now they are showing a handful in the south end zone...

Are they planning on doing something special for Lou for the Rice game? Because Upper End zone tickets are $100, compared to $85 for Stanford (BC & SMU are only $70, but I get those are Nov games).

I mentioned in another thread that I’ve had some circumstances change, and I’m looking to make my first trip to South Bend this fall with my family. This seems like the most logical game to try. It’s this or the Stanford game.

I have two main questions, the rest I can figure out.

1. What towns outside of South Bend are convenient to stay at but won’t break the bank? We’d be flying into Ohare so I’d prefer west more so than east.

2. Easiest way to get to tix? I don’t want to wait until the day off. Too big or risk for me. I’d like to be a little closer, lower bowl hopefully but don’t want to pay crazy prices to be super close either.

Any help would be appreciated.

How many people will you be taking? I have a hotel room maybe 1.5 miles from campus that I'm looking to dump. I think it's only a king bed.

Many nice towns nearby. New Buffalo, St Joseph, South Haven is a bit further, but nice. Niles is right next door.

How many days? Are you gonna get some time in Chicago? Friday to explore ND?

My thought is to fly in on Thursday, head back on Sunday.

Not much time in Chicago, I've been a few times. But, never to South Bend, so, that will be my focus.

So, fly in Thursday, get to where I'm staying, explore campus on Friday, experience game day on Saturday, then head home on Sunday.

Honestly, to answer your question about places to stay that won't break the bank: stating the obvious here but it really depends on how much driving you feel like doing to get to and from campus. I've had a lot of luck with BnBs in Southwest Michigan ~45 minutes from campus. More space and many times cheaper than some 2* hotels in SB.

Others prefer to pay a premium for convenience, on gameday, but I don't mind driving 45 minutes back toward home after the game and being that much closer on Sunday for the drive home.

I'm not sure if the Chicago > South Bend route is more aware of the ND gamedays than some of the SW Michigan folks, though, but may be worth looking into.

Oh here we go this is my jam. Fly in Thursday, out Sunday is the perfect way to do it. You don't even really have to head to campus until Friday and you can still get everything in that day, without feeling the pressure of having to see all the sights on gameday itself.

Find a hotel or airbnb in Michigan City, Chesterton, Laporte, Valparaiso, or Portage...in that order. All those towns have a bunch of good local restaurants and a nice lively bar scene. Michigan City has the blue chip casino, which is why I'm partial to staying in Mich City, I love to give away my hard earned cash to the poor folks who own casinos.

It's about 45 minutes outside of Chicago, and 45 minutes outside South Bend. The perfect halfway spot. Easy entry into campus on gameday, and only have to drive 45 minutes back after the game.

As for tickets?? Patience is your friend. Especially if you pick the Michigan State or ESPECIALLY the Stanford game. They are going to plummet as you get close. The last 48 hours people get desperate, and you will find some really good seats for under $100. Bought a ticket for USC last year 24 hours before kickoff for $100 20 rows up, lower bowl on the 25 yard line. Be patient, you will absolutely find some good tickets for really cheap.

Can DM me if you have any other questions, I'd be happy to help, I've made the trip from Omaha 19 times since 2010 and have it down to a science :)

I appreciate the info. That’s really helpful. I’m terrified to wait that short before game time while trying to secure 4 seats next to each other. I know they won’t be high demand games but still. 😳

Don't even have to be four seats "next" to each other, you'll probably even have success finding 2x2 in adjacent rows, even.

He's right, I've done this so many times myself for both home and away games. Scalpers for USC used to try and take advantage at 3x face early in the AM when you're setting up the tailgate....by 5pm for a 7:30pm kick, I got four tickets once at face value. It's even easier now online.
